Agreed. There's nothing wrong with confirming plans but like everything else it's how you do it. My tactic is similar and I always text "Hey (lizard) looking forward to seeing you tonight at x". Almost 100% of the time they'll quickly get back to me and agree on the time or will need to make minor time changes. I don't get too worked up if they need to push the time 30 mins to an hour later. My thinking is I'd rather them show up in a chill state of mind rather than stressed about trying to get there on time.

On the other hand if they want to drastically change the plans like moving to a different venue or going earlier in the day (implying they have plans after me) I'll do the takeaway and say "It sounds like tonight isn't a good night for you let's reschedule for another time" and then I go radio silent. It's now on them to reach out and try to set up a make up date. If not, I'm on to the next.
