Kicking lip balm addiction

Hey everyone,

I have a mild addiction to lip balm. One time back in 2010 I got chapped lips and ended up getting chap stick to resolve the problem. Well, it took care of the problem but I ended up becoming addicted to incredibly smooth lips.

I've tried going cold turkey. I end up getting stupidly dry lips and then I end up looking like a drag queen with bright red lips.

I've tried all of the majors brands from Carmex, Eos, Burt's Beeswax, and every various flavor of lip balm.

None of them seem to stop me from getting chapped lips.

Now I now not to lick my lips when they're chapped. That's not the problem. They just dry out stupidly fast.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I always carry at least one tube of chap stick. I really love the feel of smooth lips and girls love it too.

Try beesentials. It's 10 times better than Burts. It gets higher ratings than most for a good reason.

Almond Oil.

4. Say Goodbye to Chapped Lips

We all long for cherry red lips, don't we? A few drops of almond oil on your lips will rejuvenate the dead cells, prevent chapped lips and leave them moisturized. Not only that, but it can also make a perfect lip balm. Mix almond oil with honey and use it every morning. You can refrigerate this mixture and store for further usage.

Drink more water or tea. Eat more fresh fuits and vegetables. (they contain water and other moisturizing properties)

Use higher quality moisturizers like coconut oil or almond oil.

Those cheap, low quality "lip balms" like "Carmex" and "Chapstick" are designed to be addictive and only provide temporary relief.

It's much better to moisture yourself from the inside out by staying hydrated and applying natural oils.

If you get thirsty, you are not hydrated enough. Start your day by drinking fluids. Apply a moisturizing oil before you leave the house.

Upgrade your moisturizing products. Carmex is low level.

I have a bottle of NOW Foods Sweet Almond Oil. Before I go to sleep, I rub some on my lips(and my face) because it's too oily to use in the day time. During the day I use Vaseline.

I already drink 1.5 gallons of water daily and eat fruits daily for part of my lunch. I will try the almond oil.

If you don't like the results this product is giving you, then stop using it.

That will solve the problem.

I'm with Quintus. My lips look great all the time and I've never used chapstick.

You must live in a nice climate.

I don't blame him for wanting smooth lips. I once had a STR with some chick that dogged out some other guy that was better looking than I was, for the simple reason that his lips were chapped and peeling and that was a major turn off for her. Then she praised my lips for looking healthy etc.

6 years later almost the same thing happened again with a different girl.

Some women are pretty serious about fucked up lips. It's not luck I ran into two women talking about it at length. I bet a sizable group care about that alot. Women in general get nitpicky about all kinds of shit, don't give them a reason to shut you down over something silly if it is avoidable.

That said, getting obsessed over lips is silly too.

I want to share some strategies that I sometimes use to fight chapped lips..

- When I get up in the morning, the first thing I do is sip water and allow the water to flow generously over my lips. I tuck my lips into my mouth and basically submerge them in water for a while. I do this a few times. Then, I immediately apply coconut oil.

- I keep a tube of quality lip moisturizing or coconut oil in my car.

- I keep a tube of quality lip moisturizing or coconut oil at work.

- Whenever I sip water or tea, I generously coat my lips and tuck them into my mouth like I described above.

- Before bed, I apply coconut oil.

- I keep oil and water near my bed in case i need to moisturize at night.

- When the weather is extremely hot or cold, I am even more vigilant in following these steps.

Vaseline works a lot better than chap stick, there's a whole thread dedicated to it:

Roosh wrote a blog post about this years ago. He recommended putting Vaseline on your lips.

Edit: didn't realize Thomas the rhymer's post above mine when I posted this.

I've had an addiction for approximately 20 years, ever since getting a bad case of chapped lips as a kid. I get very irritable if I don't put Chapstick on.

It's not a matter of worrying what other people think of my lips. It's more of a matter of ME enjoying them being silky smooth all of the time.

When they are smooth, I notice it more and that starts the "lip licking" which is what makes it worse.

Gio said it, hydrating helps. The problem is I already hydrate quite a bit. I will try carrying around a small tin of petroleum jelly. That might help a bit. All of that extra stuff they add in is what probably makes my lips dry.

Be careful with petroleum products. The chemicals in many of them are on par with rubbing chemical plastic on on your lips. Natural options are better if you can find them. Use the jelly it to protect and if your lips are in bad shape until they heal. After that find a daily solution that is chemical free.

I have dealt with this problem and found that applying pure shea butter effectively solves the withdrawal symptoms and works even in the dryest, windiest days of winter

Dry lips are a symptom of the environment and how your body reacts to it. If you live in a dry place, you'll be more prone to getting dry lips, dry skin, and dry eyes.

I have to constantly use lip balms and body moisturisers in this dry part of Canada. In some some muggy, hotter or more humid environments it's just simply a non issue.

If your lips are dry it might be just a case of the way your body reacts to its surroundings. Your best bet may be to simply use a higher quality lip balm. Vaseline works just fine too.
