BTW, Rumor is that the best looking Dominican women are in Santiago, I strongly urge you to take a side-trip to Santiago and give us the dirty details.

Hey mechanico,

As far as getting $$$ goes, are you able to use ATM's without issues in DR? Are they safe, readily available, and dispense enough cash to get you through a day? Some ATM's have daily limits to withdraw cash, or sometimes, they force you to withdraw 2x charging you for each withdraw.

Mixx

ATM are no problem..same as usa or anywhere else but on the weekends in small towns like Cabarete, Sousa some of the atms run out of money and there used to a issue with the card getting stuck and it keeping the card. But new machines have been installed so no longer an issue.

Each bank has their own atm withdrawl limits plus whatever your bank daily withdrawl limits are.

Some are 10,000 pesos a day/per transaction ($260) and I've seen some as high as 32,000 a day ($842)

Tip if you use Bank of America you can withdrawal from scotia banks without atm fees.

Or Charles Schwab checking accounts refund atm fees worldwide which is the best to have.

What I've deduced from this thread so far is:

95% of male touristas go to the DR for p4p. This leaves a plethora of beautiful, normal, sexy, fun, women as an untapped resource. Am I reading this right? What's the catch? There's always a catch.

This sounds like a potential spot for a mini-retirement. What say you VP?

95% of the males go to sosua or boca chica which are 2 very very small cities..Im gonna leave it at that.

Thanks for the live feedback from the ground. One more question: how was the internet connection there? I'm considering coming spending 1-3 months as I want to be in a tropical area with fun, sexy and easy girls while being on the same timezone as the majority of my clients in North America and the DR look ideal. But high speed and reliable internet is crucial for me. So how fast/reliable is the internet connection down there? And what would be the best city in the DR that you'd recommend for such a stint?

Gracias!

I pay about $70 USD for this a month, its not cheap for the speed but hey it allows me to run my biz from here so its well worth it.

Ignore the AL ip address, I pay extra to have an USA ip address so I can watch netflix, pandora, and paypal without issues.

I'm on the north coast in Cabarete..

Is there companies that offer this as a service? I need to do something like that.

Cheers

Yes... search "VPN" on Google. A quick search turned up one with unlimited data for $10 a month.

Mine is included with the internet package I get direct from my ISP here in the DR. I never used any of the other vpn service, but you have to be careful ebay and paypal can detect some of those hide my ip address sites and the redirects..

How far can you stretch $10K in Santo Domingo? Small apt, internet, phone, going out 3-4 nights a week, cooking a lot at home, 1-2 girls in a rotation.

I figure it cost about $1,000 to $1,500 per month to live in Santo Domingo.

So at $1500 per month I can get 6 months down there. Nice. The reason I'm asking is because everything went to shit at my job. It's become the worst of the worst. I wanna leave now, but am trying to stay a little longer to bank an extra $10K for a rainy day. Working an extra month to live for 6 months in the DR is enough to motivate me to stay. Awesome.
