Full blown water fasting!

I can't imagine anyone who has kind of physical lifestyle doing a fast of any kind for any substantial amount of time. Seems like something you would have to do when you can just lie around the house doing fuck all.

Full blown water fasting!

Our bodies, brain, muscles, endocrine system, evolved under conditions of scarce food supply. We're more prepared to live in starvation mode than abundant food mode. Most people could stop eating today and live at least 30 days. I can fast and maintain my normal exercise activity, so I wouldn't say it's bad for a lot of guys.
That said, there are guys who have a metabolism that's needs frequent feedings, so I understand those less inclined forward fasting.
Yeti, I love your fasting schedule and have been planning on getting into fasting. Thanks for the input

Do you seriously think you could fast for any more than a day doing a job that consisted of physical labour?

The only way I could see fasting is if I didn't too much that day. Physical activity burns calories. How the fuck can you sustain physical activity without adding more calories to your system?

How physically effective do you really think you would be after going 30 days without food? Do you really believe anybody who stayed physically active could go 30 days without food?

I just tried a 24 hour water fast and it was excruciating. I don't recommend it to anyone who has much/anything to do that day. I felt like a zombie, but then again that could have also been due to the lack of coffee in my system.

I read a little more about it, and it seems the main effect of a long-term fast is to get into ketosis. If that's the case, and if that's where the weight-loss benefits come from, then I'd prefer/suggest just doing an Atkins/Low-Carb type diet. That way, you will at least have something to eat, and you will still get the weight loss benefits of ketosis.

Today, I'm starting IT (Intermittent Fasting), and hopefully I will get some good results!

Yeah, Low-Carb will get you into ketosis. This is why I don't see the point of doing a water fast for such a long time. To each its own.

There are other benefits to fasting. It may help you live longer. They studied mice that were fasted, and mice that ate regularly, and the mice that fasted lived significantly longer.

Check out the BBC documentary - Eat, Fast, and Live Longer (2012). Besides weight maintenance/weight loss, there may be health benefits to fasting that make it worthwhile.

When I fast, I don't lift. That's probably what separates me from a lot of guys on here. I've said in this thread that when I eventually start lifting, I will probably have to modify my fasting routine in conjunction. I don't know if it will be possible. Some other guys have posted here about fasting on lifting days - with mixed results. I think that we need more data.

I just bike a lot and walk on fast days and I'm fine. Like a couple hours biking on a fast day. That's a lot, but it's not lifting. It's just moderate cardio. Any reasonably in-shape guy can do that. Lifting is probably very different.

As I'd mentioned previously, I don't fast for weight loss, not primarily at least. It's more mental. I like being in control of my appetite and diet, and fasting helps put me in the right frame of mind to do so. Some guys don't need to be in that frame of mind and that's fine. Some guys can be in great health by lifting and eating a lot of food.

For now, fasting helps me get the look that I want, which is thin and toned. I will probably start lifting ere long, and that may mean that I will no longer fast.

Water fasting should basically be done in serious cases only. A juice fast or something like the Master Cleanse is a better route. I've done the Master Cleanse numerous times and it is amazing, I love it. I'm 26, never been overweight in my life, I do it to clean my mind and prepare for the battles yet to come. Plus when your not spending your money on food, you find ways to get more money. You have more energy, its mind over matter reaching for bigger goals instead of temporary satisfaction from food. Your body will adjust to a cleanse after a few days like it's nothing. A headache the first day is natural, its a sign of detox. But after the ball gets rolling, it keeps rolling. The first time I ever did it was 12 days straight, and completely benefited my life 100%. But I know pure water fasting has healed people of the craziest diseases under supervision if done correctly. But if your trying to get your self in alignment body/ mind, the master cleanse will always benefit you. The simple sugars in the organic maple syrup give you energy, and the lemons make your face shiny and glowing sticking out. I've had random girls ask to marry me when I cleansed. Getting ready to start another one this week, then flying across the world black Friday.

Great books on fasting

Fasting can save your life - Herbert shelton

The Master Cleanse - Stanley Burroughs

The Fasting Edge - Jentezen Franklin ( one of the best books I ever read)

I don't think these long term fasts are worthwhile.....isn't your productivity compromised? Are you still able to go to the gym after fasting for 10 days? What about going out, and having a few glasses of red wine with a cute girl?

I sometimes do 24-hour fasts, or full on 36 hour (one whole day + 2 sleep cycles), on a recharge day.

I talk about it here:

http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-42120-...#pid875139

It's much simpler...plus you only lose one night of going out. I still go to the park and read books while daygaming, so it's a win win situation.

I hope you guys who want to do a water fast for more than a day or two are willing to shake the devil's hand and see if he lets you come back...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyponatremia

Quote:Quote:

Many conditions including congestive heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure and pneumonia are commonly associated with a low sodium concentration in the blood. This state can also be caused by overhydration from drinking too much water due to excess thirst (polydipsia).

When your body doesn't have any electrolytes your brain can't communicate with the rest of your body and you fucking die. I'm not joking.

^^ So if people get lost in the woods for more than 2 days and only have water, they die from hyponatremia? Doubt it.

Does anyone have some stats on fat loss rates under water fasting?

Very interesting...reminds me of Jainism (small religion in India). They've been doing water only fasting for centuries if not millennia. Most Jains do an 8 day water only fast once a year.

For anyone interested, might be interesting to see their perspective. I'm sure they've figures out some useful stuff in terms of how to get used to it, etc.

Bottled water (which I'm assuming most people doing this fast will drink) has no minerals in it. If you survive on nothing but that for a few days there's a very real possibility it can happen. Go ahead, try living on bottled water for a few days if you think I'm full of shit.

This is a huge health risk for no benefit beyond what a very low calorie diet will do.

You can die from drinking minieral free water (distilled) in super large amounts as it does what is described above in purging your system of salts and minerals. For nor.all water with minerals it takes a binge type ammount in very short periods. To the point past discomfort and stomach pains. Like trying to force down gallon of water in one shot, that kind of excessive amount (not the sane if your replenishing water that is being lost during activity. You cab easily down a gallon of water during a workout for example).

Also for fasting you are supposed to take it easy. You shouldn't be doing crazy activity as your body is redirecting energy and resources towards cleansing and balancing the body. Your just supposed to chill and focus the mind. Meditation is a good thing to do, and if your into it doing chanting or yoga if that's what your thing. If you do hard labor for work you fast on a weekend (friday night to Sunday night).

Full blown water fasting!

I am planning to undergo 9 days of water fasting at the end of the year.
This is an idea that´s grown very attractive to me over time, as I studied nutrition and natural medicine.

Just for the record, I´ve been lifting weights for 12 years, I already do intermittent fasting and have become a lacto vegetarian for 11 months now (the benefits such as improved digestion and disposition speak for themselves).
I am 6´1, weighing 205 lbs, fairly lean at 11% bodyfat.

Water fasting is interesting to me for many reasons, such as improved mental clarity and enhanced perception (useful for meditation and spiritual practices in general), purification and healing of body and mind, fat loss and, above all, learning more about the human body and ancient medicinal techniques that are attuned to nature.
