Had to google battle rope. I still don't get it.

They're pretty good for back and arm conditioning. Decent calorie burner I suspect. PTs are definitely obsessed with them though.

Been popular in the performance sports world for a while…as part of a workout though, not the focus point.

All the trainers at my local gym are obsessed with those battle ropes and other Cross Fit type stuff. I've rarely seen any of the trainers working on The Big 3 with their clients.

But yeah, the gym I go to is similar or worse: heavy deadlift prohibited, no squat rack. The most hardcore trainer I've seen was spotting a guy doing dumbbell press.
The only cool thing I can't get out of my home power rack set up is the cable cross, and half the time trainers and girls are hanging on the central pullup bar showing off their crunch ability, as if that is the primary and unique function of the machine.

What he means by battle rope is the type of thick, tough rope you'd use in tug of war but you use it for varied purposes such as;

- A rope swinging workout where you're basically anchoring the end with a weight and you create waves in the rope

- Drag a sledge with weights on it or pull it towards you

Requires a fair bit of space.

My experience of personal trainers is mixed. On one hand you have the debbie downers who exude bro science and do not know how a squat, bench press or deadlift should be done.

Bosu balls and yoga-style training for people who want to lose weight is also a sure-fire way of milking clients.

On the other hand you're forgetting a lot of people are literally clueless on this stuff. "whats a squat? Is that where you take a shit?" The general ignorance of these people is astounding and PTs have to fight through this.

I have seen a handful of good PTs that involve the big three and strongman movements such as tyres, sledges etc. Nothing too overpowering for a normal gym goer.

I'm sure the battle rope thing is somewhat effective, lots of NFL and NHL players do it.
