If you know it is a school, regardless of whether it is storing weapons, then you should confirm and verify that civilians are gone. If you don't, then you are being reckless with lives of innocents. That is, if you have already been put on notice that Hamas uses civilians as human shields - you know this is a widespread practice - then you shouldn't be launching aerial or projectile attacks on buildings that you know have a high likelihood of inflicting collateral damage.
An analogy: a criminal holds a hostage at gunpoint. The police decide to launch a grenade at the criminal's general vicinity knowing fully well the hostage is endangered. When the hostage happens to die due to collateral damage, the police argue it is the criminal that is morally at fault, not the police. Then the police continue to do this ad infinitum. That is what happening in a microcosm.
Also, there were repeated communications by the UN to Israel asking for safe passage out. Israel denied them.
Again, none of this would happen if Israel used a ground invasion to surgically remove Hamas. It would be long and difficult, and Israel would suffer more casualties, but it most certainly minimize civilian collateral damage and it would probably get the job done of removing Hamas.
