Information on Orenburg, Russia?

Hi all,

I have a potential opportunity to live in Orenburg for a few months. I cannot find much on here or online in regards to what would be close to a data sheet.

Does anyone have any experience living or traveling here, as I would love to hear what you recognized about the town (is it fun? boring?), crime, cost (it seems relatively pricey) and, of course, the women.

Thank you,
Renberg

I doubt anyone here has been there, it's pretty off-the-beaten-path. I spent some time in Samara and really enjoyed it, although the roads/infrastructure are pretty terrible. For a few months I think it would be awesome, but it would really depend on time of year. Poor infrastructure is quaint and tolerable in summer, but in winter it is pretty miserable in those kind of Russian cities.

But seize the day and be a trailblazer, I'd love to hear what it's like.

Thank you. We will see what happens. It would be an ESL job with provided housing, so financially it shouldn't be too bad -- and not too much for a flight from there to Moscow. It's a city of over half a million people so I'm very interested in hearing about the relevance of English (which I assume is very low).

If anyone has any perceived information too, which is not exactly first-hand experience, I'd love to hear.

The best of luck to you mate. You should have a blast. I have been in contact with a bloke who did some ESL teaching in Ekaterinburg which is not a million miles away and he had a memorable time. Its all about what you make of it and how you utilise it to the max. One piece of advice, make sure you cross the 't''s and dot the 'i's with your school. Clarify everything with them regarding salary, guaranteed hours, accommodation, split shifts and time off in the week. When you are there, you could also look around for work in other schools or do some private tuition. Keep your options open. It will come to you.

Do it. Then write all about it here [Image: smile.gif]

Like BigDave said, it's an opportunity to be a trail blazer. Sure it might suck, but then you could just switch to Moscow or St P later on, with more or less a guaranteed great time.

You will be the only American the girls there have ever seen in their lives.

...do you have a California ID?

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the input. As I'm approaching graduation, I have many options to weigh. If you've seen my other threads, I'm between traveling and moving to LA (to work and get my California ID). Currently, I have an east coast (non-NY) one.

I may get a job out of college for a great company in NYC. If that's the case, I will have to take it because of its opportunity.

I will be there (if I take the Russia job) from January to April, which don't seem to be the best seasons in Russia haha. I'm very much interested in exploring different people and landscapes. But I want my trip to be eclectic (I want to see Europe).

I figure that going to Russia will teach me things I can't yet put into words since I have yet to experience them.

I used to teach English in the city of Sterlitamak its in Bashkortostan/Bashkiria which is the Republic/Oblast/State/Province north of the Orenburg border. When I was in Sterlitamak in 2007 there weren't any ESL jobs in Orenburg for foreigners. Hit up russiancupid.com just to see what kind of girls are there and to pipeline a tour guide. If I had known about this site before I left I would've had a harem before I got there. OK Cupid and other sites aren't good with small towns as they don't have enough of a following there like Russian Cupid does. Orenburg is in between Kazakhstan and Bashkortostan so you're going to have a lot of Asian girls in the mix to choose from they are Muslim but only nominally Muslim as they drink and wear the same slutty clothes Christian, Agnostic and Atheist girls wear some of them are hot but % wise not as much as the Russian girls although they do usually have a better attitude because they have to and because they are more upbeat than ethnic Russians. Fuck it I just checked out Orenburg on russiancupid and it doesn't look too bad not as many Asian looking chicks a lot more blondes than I thought but Russian girls always color their hair. If you are working for language link/line they aren't too bad and are all over Russia hit them up good luck and enjoy!!!

As with many smaller places in Russia, social game will probably be a factor if you want to get anyone decent, or even just a 'good girl'. English language skills will be at an absolute minimum there I would guess, and your wage will likely mean some budgeting unless you're bringing some money of your own. The weather will be cold most of the time so night game may be limited to the dedicated amongs tthe population.

However as a teacher, if you win them over early and become friends you'll probably get invited to parties and gatherings, should be a good start for you in getting some lassies. You might limit yourself in numbers that way due to social reputations, but I'm sure you'll find a balance.

I highly advise against dating your students or co workers. dont shit where you eat. Better get to know them so as to be inviuted to places and met more chicks through social circles. I mean chicks you will bang but never see again. plus mamba and vkontakte are an absolute must.
