I frequent a handful of forums that cover a wide variety of topics including auto restoration, live music, diy home repair, weight lifting and nutrition. Each forum has a thread that reads verbatim to this thread. Every forum's thread turned in to a ghost town on November 5th.

I am wondering if anyone's opinions have changed over the last month and to what degree.

I worked a lot with ad agencies, sales and local media right out of college and loved watching people respond unknowingly to product placement and native advertizing. Sorry I am an asshole, but IRL trolling is hilarious.

This thread is awfully quiet. Cases not quite as bad as Void's predictions but it's just under 20k cases now.

It's crazy how it just completely dropped out of the public's lexicon of hot topics.

Not an update on the Ebola thread since December 2014. Interesting how this has become so completely ignored in the media. Just saw this on Drudge, the death poll has passed 10,000. Also another American volunteer who was working in Sierra Leone has contracted the disease is going to be treated stateside. Anyone have any more updated thoughts and opinions on how this may end up, any predictions....

As of December less than 10 Americans were diagnosed with the disease. I believe it was all propaganda. I've never seen such a massive news story literally disappear overnight like this. The media scared the shit out of the whole world, and supposedly what this accomplished was several thousands of military troops being sent to dirt poor, mineral rich countries. I can't verify this but the whole story is so strange that I think there is funny business going on.

People seem to misunderstand that it's not the contagion itself that is the draw of this story but the mortality rate. At 50/50 that scares a lot of people, whether it is rational or not.

Its 50/50 with good containment and procedures being followed. Somebody posted the whole process of what occurs during an infection earlier in the thread.

You as a victim are hopeless without help. That help is in the form of a team of doctors and nurses, clean up crew, disposal crew. Disinfectant, drips, protective ward & transport.

Probably two dozen people in special containment suits on an isolation ward.

That is one person. Now imagine how any health service could cope with more than thousand cases like that. It would be impossible.

The saving grace of the virus is its short lifespan. It is the equivalent of a firework.

This almost became a worldwide pandemic. Google Ameyo Adadevoh and read about her.

In summer 2014 a diplomat named Patrick Sawyer flew from Liberia to Nigeria with Ebola and was admitted to First Consultants Medical Center where Adadevoh was a medical director. Because he was a diplomat, the Liberian government was putting a lot of pressure on her to release him despite him having fucking Ebola.

If she had caved in to the government pressure to release him, that strain of Ebola may have gone worldwide. Thankfully for humanity, she stuck to her guns and refused to release him.

Zika is real too, but the symptoms are very mild and the main threat is to pregnant women and their babies (microcephaly and other birth defects).
