Is there much trouble getting them past hotel security?

None, as far as I have seen, although if it is at all possible, rent an apartment. Medellin is definitely a city that staying in a hotel could hurt your chances, more than any other other city I have been to.

I don't want to overplay this but you need to be careful if you travel alone and run into girls that are extra friendly. There's a very small number of thieves that use Scopolamine to drug people. I have a Colombian friend that had this happen to him in Bogota. You don't need to be paranoid but just aware of your surroundings and if something seems to good to be true, it most likely is.

I'm currently in Medellin and I have to say that for two weeks I think you'll be much happier in Bogota with an apartment near the zona rosa. I was there for a week and had 2 SNLs and turned down another sure thing because something about Bogota made me sick the whole time I was there. I think you'll need more time for Medellin for it to really pay off.

Noted on the drugging issues. A lot of the advice I've heard elsewhere about Medellin amounts to "You know all that precautionary shit you do just at the outside chance something happens when you travel? In Medellin we're not fuckin with you. Tighten it up and don't be a dumb tourist."

As for Bogota . . . everyone says it's cold and that it has a real big city hustle going on. Medellin, for lack of better word, just looks like the vacation that you kinda mentally picture when you think of Colombia.

I'm not opposed to a girl who doesn't go easy. In fact, it kinda gets me off. It tends to put me in the mood to really run some game on her, because then I feel like there's a little more to it than just play acting so she can convince herself that she's not a bad girl.

I agree with newgame that only two weeks with basic Spanish will make Bogota easier than Medellin. The cold weather is mostly at night and brisk during the day. Most guys go to Medellin first because everyone says the girls are prettier. I'm not sure I agree. The average girl in Medellin may be better looking but there are more beautiful women in Bogota. Most of the models and actresses will be in the capital. It may be the groups I hang with.

For the views of the city, Medellin wins hands down. Nothing is better than looking out at the city at night. If only it had a beach...

I didn't find Bogota to be very cold. I went out at night without a jacket and I was fine.

I'm not trying to deter you from going to Medellin, but it's possible that in 2 weeks you might not get laid. If it rains both weekends you are there you will be approaching significantly less prospects. Then, when you try to set something up the girls are much bigger flakes in Medellin. If you get one out, then you might need a couple dates to seal the deal, by which time you'll be heading back.

In Bogota I went out in the rain and although there were probably less people than normal, there were still some packed bars/clubs. I also never had a girl flake on me in Bogota, whereas in Medellin I've had more flakes than dates.

With that said, I still like Medellin better than Bogota because of the climate and vibe of the city.

Doing Medellin solo

I was there last year around this time for a poker tournament. I would not recommend going there solo. I stayed in Pobaldo within walking distance to Santa Fe mall. I did feel very safe there at all hours of the day and night.

The reason I wouldn't recommend going is solo is because of how difficult it will be to meet chicks there without knowing people who live there already. It would be different If u came for a longer period of time for either school or work.

The nightlife scene is totally different than anywhere I have been in the States or even most S America. Almost everyone just sitting at tables ordering bottles and dancing with the hotties they came with. Even with your physique I would not recommend approaching people you don't know without being invited first. The guys in Medellin I met were some of the nicest people I met during my travels, however, I would hate to piss any of them off over their woman. You would be playing with your life, as u don't know who is connected. Fortunately one of my boys from Panama has a girl living in Medellin.I would have never met my Shakira without her. Lol

Rolling solo with little Spanish may have u mistaken for a sex tourist. I would recommend Cali If u can salsa, but Panama over Columbia in general. More things to do regarding night life & places u can check out during the day. There is a different club happening for every night of the week and more diverse music and people.

Anyways, I'm just sharing my experience there. Hope that helps any.

This is what attracts me to Medellin. I mean, it's not like I couldn't just come back to Bogota or Cali in the future, right?

As for the business about the strength of your Spanish . . . my Spanish isn't awful. It's just there's always that moment where you're gonna catch that I'm not local, not native, and not fluent. If you guys are saying that it's fluency or bust, OK, then I get that.

I do salsa dance also . . . in point of fact I love salsa. Yeah . . . I suppose that's a point in favor of Cali.

I think at this stage we're recycling arguments. I haven't bought any tickets yet. If success is the goal, I can always work a long layover in Miami into the trip (I have a guaranteed lay there).
