Seriously, I absolutely hate vocal fry and it seems to be rampant in the US now - I really notice it at least when I come back.

We should have some sort of 'Vocal Fry Shaming" week. It's so unfeminine and just awful to hear.

lol - Stern said something at the end like "I really don't like it when a hot chick sitting on a couch on the Bachelor breaks into that Exorcist voice"

Good idea. I'd like to see more public awareness of this. It's one of those things where once you read about it, you can't stop hearing it all around you.

It should probably be called "vocal creaking", which sounds more accurate. And if girls start being self-conscious that they are "creaking" they might become embarrassed.

Well there's a topic idea for you ROK writers.

"I came into this with wAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAls uUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUp..."

Good God. Who wouldn't want to stick knitting needles into his ear drums at hearing that on a regular basis?

Bitches are getting more and more crazy - the vocal tone automatically conveys cynisism, some kind of world-weary and masculine vibe like a slut who has gurgled whiskey and sperm for 20 years.

What's worse is lots of young men talk with vocal fry. Faggotry at its finest.

its like they are all trying out for the role of 1960s B list catwomen

vs.

A list sultry voices of Julie Newmar

or Marilyn Monroe

Thats probably a good way to describe it, vocal fry is like marilyn monroe with whiskey, cigarettes and gravel.

This reminds me of a video someone posted (I think on RoK, or maybe it was Roosh?) basically showing that vocal fry is strictly an English-speaking American thing. There is this young Canadian female pop-start, and there was video from two separate interviews - one she did for Canadian television and one she did for an American web show. In the Canadian interview she spoke in fluent, quick, concise, and feminine sounding French - she actually sounded intelligent and very well spoken. In the American interview she spoke in slow smoker's voice with all kinds of "ummm"s and "like"s and basically sounded like some basic slut who just woke up with a hangover from a night of slamming booze like a frat boy, ripping butts, and getting piped by every dude on the football team.

First it was uptalk, now this. Nothing new here.

Obviously a few celebrities started this fad and now the herd is following. Yawn. Women are herd animals. They follow the crowd and seek social approval of everything they do. No gesture, act, statement, or movement is unworthy of being crowed about to the universe, in the hope that it will be hamster-reinforcing.

Most moral codes were designed to keep female attention-whoring in check. But we have no moral code anymore in this country. So, this is what you get. Attention whoring as an industry. Which just feeds on itself, and reinforces delusions.

Whole businesses (Facebook) have been constructed with awareness of this truth. No man will ever go broke when betting on the female capacity for social approval and herd behavior.

No man who truly knows women is not a misogynist.

I've been hearing a lot of this vocal fry in young Aussie girls as well. Made me think they were Americans at first.

Super annoying to say the least.

I used to work with a girl that did this terribly, exactly like the girl on the Red Eye vocal fry news...exactly.

I didn't know what was wrong with her or how anyone could take her seriously.

Disgusting.

If anyone started this trend...it was Marilyn Manson back in the 90s.

Yeah that's her real name and her stage name is "Coeur de Pirate". I'm still amazed at the difference between the 2 languages that were shown in that clip!!
