Topographic Anatomy app

Topographic Anatomy app

Hello guys, long time lurker. I don't know if this is the appropriate forum for this. But I trust that in here I can find people that are more knowledgeable than me, programming wise. So here we go.

I'm currently studying medicine in Mexico. I have an idea for a medical app, but I don't really know how to approach it. The basic pitch is this.

In the medical world the clinical histories and physical examination are king. But to do a proper physical examination you need to know very well your anatomical landmarks and the topographic disposition of the organs and different structures. It all looks bright and shine in the books, but once you have a real patient your mind sometimes goes blank. I had this idea about an app that would take a picture of a patient in a predetermined anatomical position. Say the abdomen in a supine position. Then the app will ask you to identify some very easy anatomical landmarks (umbilicus, supero-anterior illiac spin, costal margin, etc). And a superposition of the internal organs would be displayed. This would show the student or physician an approximation of internal structures and would have a great pedagogic advantage. Maybe it can even display the most common anatomic variations, or some more difficult landmarks, or even suggest examination techniques.

I don't know the possibilities look endless and the task daunting.

The app in question will need to have several features.
1) A camera for the anatomical pictures.
2) A pencil or marker for the pointing of some anatomical landmarks or biometric points.
3) A system that would superimpose an image based on the photo and the landmarks chosen. Maybe some comments or text with the pictures.

However I'm completely blank I don't know what kind of book I can download to start reading about this problem. And maybe start program it in my own. I don't even know if it's possible.

Feel free to ask any follow-up questions.

p.s: I know Thomas the Rhymer is gonna read this. He's a cool cat. I wish he posted more of his experiences as a doctor.

p.s2: Here are some pictures of something similar to what I want.
