New York Times Nixes Anti-Feminist Comic Strip (!?)

New York Times Nixes Anti-Feminist Comic Strip (!?)

The magazine Death + Taxes is reporting that the New York Times didn't run this week's edition of its “See Something, Say Something” comic, which appears in its Week In Review section.

The comic is a sort of tirade against guys who had complaints about the #yesallwomen hashtag campaign. It depicts them, literally, as whiny babies.

Is the Times going Red Pill? Not likely. The reason the comic didn't run is probably because...it's not funny. It's really not funny. Anytime feminism enters the room, funny walks out. And this didactic, simplistic comic shows why that is. Two men created this strip, and this looks like a case of White Knighting gone wrong.

Judge for yourself (full-sized comic here):

That's not even a comic strip, it has no comedy in it....the content is just facts.

In another one of his strips, they portrary Botswanans as living in the stone age: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2014/02...tml?_r=0#6

But Botswana has a higher per capita GDP than Mexico and Brazil..

Horrible. Just horrible.

If people who normally get published can't come up with anything better than that, it only confirms that there aren't many (if any) rational arguments against anti-feminism.

There's a level of impassioned orthodoxy, beyond which humour is no longer possible. Only duckspeak.

Holy shit, this is so unbelievably bad I'm actually at a loss for words. These people get paid to write/draw these? It's like something a 1st grader would make. Hell, I'd give an edge to a classroom full of 1st graders producing better art and humor over the course of a year than the snarky manginas that write these strips.

What kind of fucking society pays for and promotes such utter shit? I need a beer. Jesus Christ.

edit: looking up info on the authors I found this.

"In July 2010, Rees announced his Artisanal Pencil Sharpening service, where for starting at $35.00, people can mail in their own pencils to be sharpened by him, or receive a sharpened pencil provided by the craftsman. According to the site, "...craftsman David Rees still practices the age-old art of manual pencil sharpening. His artisanal service is perfect for artists, writers, and standardized test takers. Shipped with their shavings and a 'certificate of sharpening', these extra-sharp pencils make wonderful gifts."[5][6][7] His book, How to Sharpen Pencils, was released April 16, 2012."

Shouldn't the title be "New York Times nixes Feminist comic strip"? Seems very feminist to me.

I'm not a comic strip fan but this is too unfunny even for me. You'd at least expect the illustrations to be good.

Its trying to be funny in a progressive hipster way. Its the type of shit that makes everyone hate hipsters - not just bad fashion but being a bunch of ex-emo borderline communists.

The anti-feminist title is satire. These 2 idiot babies are show as typical anti-feminists and their arguements are supposedly the only rational arguements against feminism. So the message is pro-feminist without any doubt. I wouldnt expect anything else from NYT

The guys pencil sharpening business is a great post modern gag hustle. The book was actually reviewed well, for being a giant deadpan joke.

Who else wants to cash in with an ironic business? $500 organic sustainable fair trade hand woven hemp shoelaces?

American Apparel et. all are currently selling Jerseys for like 50 bucks. Basically the shit they would hand out in gym class...

While the title is misleading, I think DOBA said antifeminist because the subjects in the comic are about antifeminists. Perhaps a better title would be "Nixes Comic Strip about Anti-feminists"

Its also weird how it was men who wrote this, not women. Do some men genuinely believe men are treated better than women? Other than a bit of mansplaining, women are obviously treated significantly better.

I find it hard to believe they are trying to white knight out of thirst/wanting pussy, not only because of how pathetic it is, but how lazy people generally are about doing something that doesnt work. This sorta white knighting takes effort.

Yeah, good call. That is what I meant, but I could have titled it better. If a moderator sees this, feel free to alter this thread's title to what cooledcannon just wrote above: "NYT Nixes Comic Strip about Anti-Feminists."
