[Book] Perfect Health Diet

This is one of the best paleo style books I have read so far. Most paleo books have a common criticism of not enough scientific resources, this one has this many sources. So much that they did not put in the book (strange to me) but its on his blog.

Some big take away you need carbs and the best sources are starch based carb such as rice and potatoes. You can safely eat about a 1 lb a day. Its best to not eat you body weight in protein, although I have since forgetten the reason for it. They go into great detail why in the book. Fats should be almost half the calories you eat as well. Vinegar can blunt the insulin spiking effects of potatoes.

There is tons of information on supplements and I would not recommend taking all of the ones suggested. He does mention they are in foods and they are often the best form of the nutrients.

I wouldn't follow all of his advice especially the fitness, he isn't the healthiest looking guy body wise, but the nutrition parts are great. Very well researched and lots of food for thought and body.

Info about blue light is present as well, how to sleep better which might be new info for some readers. This involves a lot about circadian rhythm including things to do in the morning and afternoon which affect sleep cycles.

The book is about 400 pages and reads fast, although the print is a touch small for far sighted guys.

If you're looking for a free, healthy source on dieting and eating properly, I recommend checking out Harvard's Healthy Eating Plate. I printed out the image and glued it to my refrigerator, so whenever I am in the kitchen, I always look at it before I prepare my meals. I've been using it for about a year.

EDIT: Double post, can't seem to delete the other post.

I also like the PHD book.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

Personally safe starches tend to help with the pellet type shit you can get with low carb paleo. I also believe you need a certain amount of carbs to maintain enough calories for working out. Intermittant fasting is mentioned as well with skipping the breakfast type as the most beneficial which is about 16 hours of fasting. This allows for the cells to switch to autophagy which helps rid the body of cell toxins which tend to build up over time.

One thing that is missing from the book is probiotics which tend to be quite complex. But that might make it another 100-200 pages.

I know a lot of highly esteemed trainers and coaches who sweat by the book.
