Anyone looking at starting a business and in need of capital?
05-17-2014, 03:06 PM
I've always seen a lot about 'where to invest in the market' or where there are high paying jobs on this thread, but never seen anyone who is looking capital to expand or start a business.
Currently, I do not have the time to develop and start a business, but am highly interested in helping someone else (if needed/wanted) start up. Otherwise, what are everyone's thoughts? Thanks for the feedback.

It'd be interesting to know where one can find an investor for a startup project. Did do a Google search to find one:
http://www.angelsden.com/
Upon talking to them on the phone, was told the business need to be up and running and if numbers can be shown, they can help find an investor to expand. Told them If I was up & running I would not need any kind of investment and left it at that.

I'm looking for funding for a business right now. My connections are good enough to get the idea in front of investors but I need to find one or two more technical people to actually execute on the idea. My partner and I coded up a prototype but we definitely need more people. Another snag is that we found out a big Fortune 500 has the patent on a key piece of our software package. They have agreed to consider a sale or license but we need investors to pay that cost too.
I've got the dick so I make the rules.

I need an investment of around $30,000 usd.
The business is an agency that helps send Koreans, Japanese and Chinese to the UK to study abroad.
The agency earns income in three separate ways:
1: Commission of 20-40% for every student who goes to the UK (around $70-$140 a week per student, usually for a period of at least 4 months but up to a year. S each student is worth at least $1120 up to $6000 a year)
2: Resume and personal statement services, $300 one time fee for each student.
3: One to one private lessons with students before they go to the UK. $50 an hour. They usually do 2 hours a week for 6 weeks, so $600.
USP is that I am English, know England like the back for my hand and have studied at 3 different universities.
I don't know where to get the initial investment. I'm currently saving by doing no.3 and earn around $3950 a month and can save, after all expenses, $1500 a month. That puts me at about 2 years away from the goal.
Any thoughts?

Unless it's actually someone you know and trust I never trusted investing in businesses, seems to easy to be scammed or someone underreport income the business is earning. If you got a decent amount of money your looking to make work for you I'd look into getting into hard money lending for homes. You can oftentimes get like 10% pretty easy, oftentimes it's people who say want to buy a house but have a sales job they've only been working for 6 months and need like 2 years of W2's. You can oftentimes keep the house in your name and do a rent to own situation, I think this would best protect you as worst case scenario you incur some expenses evicting them but you still get the house in the end. Also, these deals tend to be structured to heavily favor the seller as they should, there's a reason traditional lenders won't help them. You tend to charge them a pretty hefty downpayment and above market rent. I think majority of the time people will want a home and pay and you'll be all good but even if someone craps out on you after a few months you got money upfront and have been collecting above market rent for a few months so you should still come out ahead even with having to evict and letting the house sit vacant for a while. Sammy seems to be the resident expert in this field so maybe he can touch more on this strategy but its something I've briefly investigated and found interesting.

How will you get your clients from original countries? How much will each client cost?
