Easy, foolproof, guaranteed way to lose weight.

Move to a hot country.

It is that simple.

I recently spent a week in Malta - and it was the hottest place I have being to in my life.

And my appetite simply dropped away. I barely ate over there (since the pizzas were pretty shitty looking) and I honestly didn't get hungry once.

I asked my Dad about this. And he made the point that one of the reasons you don't get hungry in hot countries is because your body can use the sun to keep warm. As opposed to needing to consume food for your body to burn to keep warm.

Interesting point.

Anyway - just wondering if others have noticed this?

I should add as well - that when you are somewhere new. You break out of your old habits - and suddenly a lot of you bad dietary habits will drop away.

So - you get that benefit as well.

Anyway - hot countries is the place to be if you want to lose weight.

Or conversely - if you wanna' find slim chicks!

It really works.

Since having moved to a hot country a couple of months ago, I have been slowly losing weight, and that is despite eating a fuck ton of junk & convenience food due to not being able to cook properly for myself yet. I'll be shedding the pounds even faster once I get my kitchen finished and can stop eating plastic wrapped crap.

I would agree.

When I moved to Vegas I lost almost 10lbs the first month, due to the extreme heat and walking my ass off in casinos etc.

When I moved back to LA, I gained it back.

I typically drop weight rapidly when I'm away from home. I don't think the climate has anything to do with it though because it also happened to me in Chicago last month.

I think it's because when traveling you are much more active. You walk around a lot in the day and you might be dancing at night if you go out. And then you usually have a change in dietary patterns while traveling. Since you're on the go you may eat smaller but more frequent meals. And you don't have all your normal comfort foods easily available.

I've seen too many fat people in hot climates to think this is anything more than a temporary situation involving partial dehydration. The human body adapts pretty quickly, so no doubt it wouldn't last very long.

I've noticed if I go from nice weather to really hot weather quickly, I'm not hungry. The fastest weight I ever lost was spending a month in Death Valley. But actually living in a hot climate, I just get used to it. I grew up in western NY, then lived 3 years in El Paso and spent over a year in Iraq, then moved to interior Alaska. So I've seen the extremes the planet has to offer and I can't say I've ever really noticed a difference in my appetite over a long period.

The biggest difference for me is I'm way more active in warmer climates, because I'm just not into winter activities. So in Alaska, my weight swings from 210 or so in summer up to 235 in winter if I'm not careful just because I stop doing a damn thing once the snow falls. I'm active enough in summer that I don't really pay attention to what I eat and still stay slim enough to not be embarrassed taking my shirt off, so without any sort of diet discipline it's easy to get fat quick once I go into couch potato mode in October.

I think you technically burn more calories when the weather is cold due to your body having to work harder to regulate core temperature. Although you are probably less likely to be active.

In Southeast Asia, people tend to eat really lightly during the day because it makes you sluggish in the heat.

I'm sure that plays a role as well. Many skip lunch and only eat fruit in the day-time. I just stick to breakfast and dinner.

I would imagine being in the hot weather that when you do want to eat, you'll generally want to eat something lighter.

By that logic colder states, like Colorado, would have a ton of fat people.

Another trick to losing weight easily just drink 2 glasses of water before you eat a meal. Did this for wrestling to drop weight easily without having to run for a day straight before a tournament, and end up eating nothing all day to make weight.

The most foolproof ways I've found to lose weight are:

Eat no more than 2 meals a day.
Limit or cease alcohol intake.

Random weightloss tips:

1) Meat causes the release of hormones that make you feel full. Carbohydrate rich foods do not release hormones that make you feel full.

Therefore, to gain weight - eat carbs first, then finish off with meat.

To lose weight - eat meat first, feel full, and don't even eat the carbs.

2) Walk every morning. You won't burn much in the way of calories, but a relaxing early morning walk seems to have an appetite suppressing effect for the rest of the day.

3) Stop adding sugar to your coffee or tea, switch to sugar-free drinks. A colleague of mine in medical school lost 5 kilograms just by doing this. He had a whole exercise and diet program written up but the only thing he could be bothered to do was to stop drinking sugary stuff.

Alcohol is my biggest enemy. Especially beer! My body is very sensitive to that...
I don't drink any beer at home, but when I'm travelling I use to drink truckloads of beer and I use to swell up like a donut. Fuck that.

Stay off the booze, fill your stomach with meat and avoid all crappy sugars.
Those are the main pillars for me.

Seems like colder environments induce weight loss through 'non-shivering thermogenesis' (your body starts use up more energy to maintain body temperature as the ambient temperature gets low even before it's cold enough for shivering to begin). There also seems to be a drop-off at higher temperatures.

Here's a graph from this Nature article of obesity rates in the US vs temperature.

The horizontal axis is mean annual temperature in degrees C.

Elevation is also a distinct factor according to that study: the higher up you go in the US, the lower the obesity rate.

There is also this study that suggests that thermal comfort of indoor heating contributes to putting on weight.

I doubt any of these factors are significant compared to a clean low-carb diet though.

Easy, foolproof, guaranteed way to lose weight.

My appetite drops off in the summer at home as well.

So - I wasn't surprised to find I had no appetite when visiting a hot country for a week. All I want is more liquids and a lot less food.

I have no way of proving any of this. And I think it is a very subtle area to investigate scientifically. Since appetite is quite a subjective thing. Anyway - I think there is a group of people this works for. And I happen to be one of them.

As for random weight loss tips. I have one.

Don't eat anything for about a week.

Two reasons.

Firstly - you will actually lose some weight during that weight - and seeing such strong initial progress is an important psychological boost.

Secondly - it 'resets' your relationship with food. And gets you appreciating the flavour of simple foods again. And helps to break up bad habits where you are just snacking for the sake of it.

The easiest way to go a week without eating is to wait until you next have a bad cold or flu. When you are sick for a few days - your appetite will drop off. So it is easy to go a week without eating. And then when you are better - you can consider yourself a week into your diet.

Another tip is to weight until you are really hungry for your favourite 'treat' food. And choose that moment to start the diet. By choosing the hardest part of your weekly routine to start a diet - you get to break bad habits whilst you are still psychologically strong. As opposed to having to tackle them a week into a diet when you are feeling worn down.

I lost a lot of weight once. And a key breakthrough for me was when I decided to snack on an apple instead of my usual junk food for a big world championship title fight about 13 years ago. It shocked me out of my comfort zone that I would choose not to 'treat' myself during a fight I had been looking forward to for months.

A friend of mine lost a lot of weight. He is quite short - and went from being 18 stone of lard - to a bodybuilder. Pretty impressive.

Anyway - he said he did a lot of running on a treadmill at the start of his weight-loss. He says fat people carry a lot of water in their body. And you need to sweat it out over a few weeks. That water will come off easily - and will leave you lighter and looking a lot slimmer since you won't be so bloated.

At that point - your body will start burning off the fat.

But remember - you shed water first. And then fat.

I have no idea if any of this is true - but it is what he told me. And he actually managed to go from being fat to a gym obsessive. So I respect his views. Again - it may just depend somewhat on body shaped.

Sadly for him - he says he still has loose skin around his stomach. I am not sure how bad it is - since I have never seen it. It could be fine - just not 'perfect' since he wants to be ultra-cut ala Jay Cutler and those bodybuilders. So - I am not sure how bad his loose skin really is.

Another thing. In my experience - and from seeing people I know. The best way of losing weight is to get severe oneitis over a girl. Nothing motivates a fat guy like 'falling in love' - lol. Sad but true. Hell - that was my motivation for losing weight in the first place.

Whenever I see a young fat guy losing weight I always say the same thing:

Cherchez la femme.

Anyway - later I became MGTOW and put it all back on.

MGTOW for the win!

If you live in a hot place though, do you spend a lot of time outdoors where there's no A/C? That's been linked to people getting fat.

This is my first year having all the radio servers out of my basement so I will be trying out a "no air conditioning" policy and see how long that goes.

My Jeep has no A/C, not that it matters because the top is off all summer.

No, American food is fattening. I really only eat brown rice and make my own chicken with my own stew. Weight loss is to do with if the food isn't loaded with additives.

Heat doesn't have much to do with it. Plenty of buffalos here (more than in New York for instance) and it's always hot as an illamas arse here.
