What Is Your Daily Ritual?

What Is Your Daily Ritual?

I'm reading a great book right now called Daily Rituals: How Artists Work which simply contains the daily rituals of famous and accomplished men - Ben Franklin, Mozart, Kafka etc.

The book details based on their own words, when they wake up, what time of day they start working, if they use alcohol or coffee in their creative process, if they go on long walks, where they work and under what circumstances - in other words, what Daily Rituals they use to accomplish their work.

Reading it has made me start to reconsider my own routines and appreciate some of the ones I already had.

What are your daily rituals? What does a typical routine work day look like for you? Is it something you designed intentionally or found over time?

What Is Your Daily Ritual?

Alarm goes off. Freak out. Oh great.

The alarm shakes me awake, but now my brain has to wake up remembering the fucking passcode to turn off the fucking phone. I finally press it in, but now I hate my life at the beginning of the day. I think about going back to sleep, only to lie in bed in a semi-conscious state for 30 minutes until something jolts me out of bed.

Then the rest of the day is a blur.

What Is Your Daily Ritual?

For a while I had a ritual of waking up early. Having coffee. Reading a couple blogs, roosh, heartiste, danger and play. Then going to the gym. Coming back. Having breakfast, going to work. If I'm planning on going out that night I get extra chatty with everyone I come in contact with at work. Also do a quick high intensity jog at the gym.

But rituals get boring. so I switch it up a bit. I decided to put in extra hours at work, Do no sleep days, go to the gym at 2am, Hang out until its 7am and go to work. Go out solo to a big nightclub. Maybe i'm bipolar but I need a reboot every now and then.

I wake up around 7 o' clock, do 20-40 pushups depending on the mood, get dressed, open the bedroom door to find my cat outside laying on its back, pet the cat, go piss, wash my hands, go to kitchen to make tea. Routines are really good for me, even though I often find it hard to stick to them.

Morning pushups, one set, not to failure. 2-3 more sets throughout the day. Do at least as many reps as the last day's or one more. Be conservative about going up in reps - if you up the reps too quickly you may fail and get discouraged.

After getting back into lifting from a spate of bodyweight workouts, my bench press is the highest its ever been, +25 lbs in my estimated 1rm, and I'm still increasing every workout. The pushups taught me how to contract my back in the bench - and I think that's what made the difference.

Once I get to 50 pushups a set I'll switch to a harder variation, eg dive bombers.

I shoot some heroin, a dash of coke and smoke a bowl to even me out...

Wake up, some pushups, affirmations in front of a mirror, speak out my goals, then start the rest of my day. Works well

Now that I'm unemployed my day goes something like this.

-Wake up around 11 or 12.
--let my dog out of my room and feed her/take her out.
--Take a piss while my dog is pissing
-Drink some water, have breakfast
-Look at my to do list.
-Take a shower
and start my day.

When I had an 8-5 job it was more like this

Wake up at 7
Out of bed by 715
Shower, get dressed, and out the door by 7:30
Arrive at work around 7:58am
Get coffee. Turn on my computer and zone out until around 8:20.
Grab another cup of coffee, 4 creamers-no sugar.
Browse the forum on my phone.
Start working at 8:30-8:40.
