What's decent money for you, might be pennies to another individual.

How are things looking now?

Is it possible to get an entry level office job in the industry that pays well?

When I drove through there in December every convenience store and Wal-Mart advertised $15 an hour on the door McDonalds advertised $20 an hour. A guy I know who used to drive for Frac Tech used to make $3,000 a week hauling frac sand in the patch living in temporary barracks for 3 weeks one week off. The problem is finding a place to live since they haven't been able to build enough housing if anyone really wants to you could make a killing putting up trailer parks and renting rooms in trailer homes since they don't want to build too many houses. They wouldn't hire me because I lived to far away but I'm waiting for the boom to start here soon once they build the keystone pipeline (thanks Putin) Obama wants us to provide natural gas for Europe so maybe he'll have a change of heart on building the infrastructure for it you talk about a shovel-ready-job you don't even need stimulus money for it either.

Still poppin. No experience needed. A buddy of mines just got hired on working pumps. 84 hours a week, 20hr. Screwston is making money. Found 2 jobs in one month. He is mudlogging now. I work in a manufacturing plant. 19 an hour with 60 hours a week. I work inside, stress free but on my feet all day. We need about 40 people at my plant.

Houston is having a huge job fair in August. Really there are job fairs every week. Ali posted a link that shows all the Texas job fares during the month.

The cycle of disrespect can start with just an appetizer.

I'll be heading up there soon, what cities do you recommend to hit up and look for jobs? That's my goal after not finding much online, and the few oil job ads recommend applying in person. The thing is that companies are so spread out (2 hours from one another) in South Texas that it's just like driving around.

Funny story, there was an ad for a "POJ cleaner" that paid well.....I thought it was great and googled what a POJ is. It turns out that it's a Port a Potty.

Edit: I'm cool with living in my car to save up on housing expenses.

Alright, so I did some research and wanted to share the fruits with the forum

Wages are a bit weird, I've been seeing some roustabout gigs go for 10-12 dollars an hour. If someone out there can verify this, it would be badass. Most say "depends on experience" or "good wages" but don't give a number. Few have a rotation, mostly 6 on and 2 off or 14/8.

The bakken (North Dakota) seems to have better opportunities, with roustabout gigs going for 20-23 an hour starting off.

Finding a job online seemed to be a pain in the ass but some results came up after doing some digging. Craigslist has some leads too! If you have a CDL, you're golden here!!!

Here are some links to some oil gigs:
A couple of oil jobs

https://www.ziprecruiter.com/job/Oil-Gas...implyhired

Job search engine: http://curtisjohn.jobamatic.com/a/jobs/f...essa%2C+tx

Weatherford

I found a "H2S Safety Course" online, it reminded me of the ticket system in Canada where you earn your certifications. It's only 19 bucks, 25 if you want a little ID that says you completed the course.
Are "tickets" required in the US? If so, is an online ticket valid? I know in healthcare, some companies do not accept online CPR/ARD as they're not the same as in-person training.

There's also a OSHA 10-Hour General Industry course, http://www.safetyunlimited.com/online-co...Online.asp

For 100 bucks, it doesn't seem like a bad deal to know some of the stuff you might be dealing with.

Project Management certification seems like a good thing to have after being in the field for a while.

For all you guys who are working as a MWD or mud engineer, what's the starting pay like? After searching google and glassdoor the pay seems to be all over the place. What's typical salary and then day rates on top of that? On weeks off, can you travel or are you pretty much on call?

Bumping this. I heard today from a buddy that Mcdonald's/Walmart is hiring for $15/hr and Starbucks is hiring for $20/hr. They can't keep people. Seriously guys...get a trailer...live out of your car...and get out there. Save money, get your safety certs, and start looking around for jobs. It seems like in the sands, most guys just chill while they're waiting to get jobs and they just lose money. If you are at a crossroads...head out there...stay in your car...and BANK!

If you're having issues finding a good wage, it might be that they're trying to low-ball people online to save money. If someone's applying online...they're obviously not in Midland or else they'd go in. I'd love to hear someone try this! Get that paper!

Not sure how good or trustworthy this company is but I'll send them my resume.....they got a lot going on and their only requirement is a HS diploma.

I need to hit up the canada threads and read up casing, coiling, and well stuff.

Love being a Landman.
It's not the most secure career out there, but you can make a damn good living if you're good.
I've been a Landman in PA, OH, and TX(presently). If you know someone that's a Landman, and interested, try it out. Most of the time you'll be traveling, but for the last 2 months, I've been working out of my apt in Dallas.

The trick is simple, you make up a local address.

Alright, I found this city-data website where they explain more in detail oil jobs in midland and odessa, companies that are hiring and other info. It's a bit dated, like from 2012 and on.....but helpful nonetheless.

North Dakota VS West Texas: http://www.city-data.com/forum/north-dak...texas.html
People from North Dakota complaining about Texas plates: http://www.city-data.com/forum/north-dak...forks.html

Looking for a job? I found this chunk of info:

Quote:Quote:

Anyhow, as for your original question, some companies have local offices at their yards where you can apply while others have more of a nice business type office. Now I don't know a lot of the physical addresses but I can give you some driving directions to a good chunk of oil related companies....mostly Fracing and Wireline.

Roads with oilfield related companies.

Garden City Hwy (Hwy 158) east of I-20 has a chain of oilfield related companies.

Business Loop 20 running between Midland and Odessa.

1788 just north of hwy 191 (Allied wireline for example is in this area)

Front st along the rail road tracks headed east towards I-20 (Pioneer has a location in this area)

There is a Fracing company (Superior Well Services) and wireline company on a small dead road near Loop 250 and I-20. You're exiting the interstate, exit Loop 250 and stay on the service road headed west. Once you cross Loop 250 headed west, look for a road on your right...believe it's the first road. Take the right and a few blocks or so you will come to a stop sign...take a left headed west again. There on the left head side is a Superior and a wireline company...if Great White is still there they also do fracing.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/texas/145...rk-tx.html

Some dude went to Midland and got a job 5 days later.

Edit: Job in Alaska offering 21 days on, 21 days off.
http://www.righands.com/jobs/roustabout-...bout-66379

Edit2: Kinder Morgan is hiring out there.

Thinking about driving to Midland/Odessa right FUCKING now....

I'm on this group/forum and feel like telling "bust a datasheet" when they talk about jobs or oil stuff....

Then I remember I'm not on RVF so they won't understand what "bust a datasheet" means.

assuming 6 months wages out there = $24,000
And you save $14,000
$14,000 = 1 year decent living in DR, longer in Central America.

6 months: 1 year
That's a 1:2 dry spell to poosy paradise ratio.

Applied for my first job, did a quick test, got an interview for tomorrow. 18 an hour and 65+ hours a week

Now I must go pee and apply for another job before offices close at 5.

There a shit load of jobs here. You can see construction everywhere. It surprises me why people are working at McDonald's. Went there this morning to use their wifi and the manager was hosted interviews on the spot.

The thing is, you gotta be here! I went to an office for a position and they gave me a shot. Some dude called about they same position and the HR lady told him the positions for that job were on hold.
