Why not speaking Spanish can help you in Bogotá

So,

I live in Bogotá. I speak Spanish, not perfectly, but I live my whole life in Spanish here besides talking to foreign friends. Even when I come across Colombians who speak English, I tell them that I want to speak in Spanish, to practice as much as possible. They respect that alot.

BUT

I have friends who speak almost no Spanish, or speak Spanish but simply prefer to speak English. And these people get laid like champs.

Really, if you only speak English, you will only hang out with Colombians who speak English. They are bassically the people who are super pumped about foreigners anyway, and will love the opportunity to practice.

You limit your social group, but you really hone in on the best target market for a foreigner, and end up with girls who are DTF.

Those types of girls are called English Groupies.

Sometimes it's just a matter of going to a new city and figuring out where they hang out.

So when you step to a girl your first words are in English/bad Spanish?

Is this something you find as much in less international places, Pereira, Cúcuta, Bucaramanga?

Yeah, exactly. In wealthy neighborhoods of Medellin/Bogota I approach with broken spanish, and throw in some English words.

In 2nd tier cities like Pereira/Cucuta, this is not the case. Women in 2nd tier cities appreciate you speak Spanish, and if you are native Spanish speaker, well, they feel more comfortable with you quicker, and DHV is done by traveling the world, and your very stylish way of dressing, not by speaking poor Spanish if you ar a native speaker.

Yea, I have been saying this for years that speaking fluent Spanish can work against you in large cities in Latin America with middle class and up girls(Barrio girls is a different story). In some countries just speaking fluent English is a status symbol in by itself among the wanna be "Bourgeoisie" the way French was a few decades ago.

Its not rare to go to upscale spots and seeing two locals speaking English to one another for no other reason but to show off. So, she'll lose interest right away if you take away her chance to show off her English. Also, you have to keep in mind that countries like Colombia, DR, Costa Rica, Panama, etc have a ton of people who have emigrated from that country to the US and love to go back home on vacation to their home countries just to "floss" what working 7 days a week, 12 hours days behind a deli counter in Miami can get them. Being confused with one of those guys is just as bad or even worse than girls thinking you are a broke local.

In "el Campo" and second tier cities were people are less pretentious and genuine, speaking Spanish like Mixx said basically gives you the pick of the litter.
