To Do Lists and Productivity

Lately Roosh has some interesting posts on his blog about good work habits such as "Unit of One Hour".

There are a lot of To Do List templates or apps to set goals, prioritize tasks, and minimize distractions.

Here is one example:

Are you guys using anything like this? If so, which one(s) do you like?

There's a free chrome extension I just installed called "Task Timer". I use it as a kind of pomodoro process, except in most pomodoros, they focus on preventing distractions. This one just keeps a task list that you assign a time to.

I've been using one for work: an app / Chrome extension called Todoist.

Every work day, at the start, I spend 10 mins creating about 7 things I need to do that day, sorted in certain orders (importance, continuity and chronology). They are small enough that I can finish and check them all by the end of the day.

It makes me heaps more productive at work.

I have a notebook (physical paper notebook to keep me away from computer) where I write down in abbreviated form my tasks for the day as well as details on how many hours I slept, how many reps and sets of exercises I made with what weight, what and when I ate, how much money I earned, what I bought, how many numbers I got, any bangs I got and did I succeeded in abstaining from some bad habits on that day.

I summarize this and analyze give the final score for my day at the end, takes about 15 minutes per day. Once per week I give myself rewards based on the weeks average score. The rewards are time spent on video games which is my greatest addiction and the only one that I don't want to give up, sometimes some snacks. I also give myself experience and level ups like to an RPG character. It may sound silly but I would not be able to resist playing video games nearly every day if I wouldn't do this. With this I can minimize it to only 4-6 hours once per week or even rarer. I must see myself constantly as a video game character with stats to improve or I will seek it in virtual world.

This is really cool - would love to hear more. I've actually thought long and hard about coming up with a similar system.

I think there is something about video games that the human brain loves, and if you can come up with a system for making your approach to life more like a video game, you could see some great success. I'm not a video game nerd at all either.

I even thought of putting together a system like this and then using it as the basis for an ebook or info product or something.

How do you score it?

Beyond All Seas

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe.
To be your own man is a hard business. If you try it, you'll be lonely often, and sometimes
frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." - Kipling

Currently I am reliving my favourite RPG game "Gothic" It's an European game, so it might be relatively unknown to you but it's awesome. I have completed this game at least 4 times and know it by heart in both english and german.

In this game you gain levels, you start at level 0 and get level one at 500 exp. You gain level 2 at 1500 exp. Level 3 at 3000 exp. Level 4 at 5000 exp. The formula is that you need 500 more exp for every next level compared to the previous level.

I started this at current iteration at December 2013. The goal is to reach at least Level 30 (the highest level of a humanoid NPC in this game) by New year 2014/15

I assign my self exp in following basic ways:

Sleep: +10exp from sleep between hours 9PM till 12 PM
+5exp from sleep between 0AM and 6AM
(the goal is to sleep 8 hours but no more according to cycadian rythms)

Food: +10 exp per day if I don't touch foods I have prohibited to myself at that day (sugars, heavily, processed foods)

Intermittent fasting: +5 exp per hour from 12th hour to 16th hour.
+10 exp per hour from 16th hour to 20th hour.
+15 exp per hour from 20th hour to 24th hour.
+20 exp per hour from 24th hour until required.
The aim is to fast 16 hours every day and more then 24 hours every fortnight.

No Fap: +10exp per day

Not forget to wash hair every second day or when needed+5 exp

Learn 5 new words per day in English, German and French +5 exp per day.
Study French or German verbs and grammar for 1 hour +10exp per hour

Training (this is a big one) Total sum of max lifts in kg performed in 5x5 training session So a stronglifts session of 5x5 squats of 130kg, overhead press 5x5 of 50 kg, deadlift 5x5 150kg gives me a total of 130+50+150=230exp. Plus 10 exp for warmup, plus 5 exp per day for shoulder dislocations exercise and plus 5 exp per day for foam rolling.

Or if I do a street workout

Pullups = 1exp for every pullup in training session, 2 exp for every pullup in the set of maximum reps
Dips, chinups = same as pullups
100m sprints or uphill sprints in HIIT style = 5 exp per first sprint of chain, 10 exp per second sprint of chain, 15 exp per third sprint of chain, 20 exp per fourth sprint of chain and so on.

Getting laid:

Sex=from 50 to 200 exp depending on my satisfaction and also the satisfaction of the girl. (no more then once per day form the same woman)

Sex with a new girl +500exp!

Blowjob +30exp!

There are many more things that I give myself exp for but these are the most basic and regular examples.

When I level up I spend skill points as in game and increase my strength, dex or mana or other skills as in game and write it down.

Every week Sunday is a battle. I have written down enemies from this game from weakest to toughest in gradual progression for the whole year. I must be at a high level enough with the right skills to win. I give myself rewards on Sunday based on the ratio of hits I need to kill the enemy vs. the hits the enemy needs to kill me.

I also upgrade equipment of my alter ego for every time I complete an irregular quest in real life or make improvement in my real life.

For example:

I repaired my car =my alter ego gets sword with more damage.

I finished a project in work and got a bonus = my alter ego gets a new magical ring

I earned money outside of my main work = my alter ego gets a better bow.

I passed French exams and got higher fluency level = my alter ego got higher tier armor.

Now it is April and I am at level 11

Maybe some people would find this dorky, but I think it's awesome.

Do you have minus points for some things too?

Instead of the alter ego thing, I thought about making some of my rewards for racking up points be things that "up my game." A personal consultation with a stylist. Some new shit for my wardrobe. Etc.

It might be perceived as dorky but it gives results, so I don't give a shit. I have started to accomplish more, that's what matters.

I do not assign minus points. Positive motivation is better then negative. Also since this is modeled from games - there are no negative exp in games.

It is also important to write down your achievements even the small ones to recall them later and boost your confidence. Therefore I also do not register negative points, it's better to forget. Instead of negatives I just place a 0, a failed opportunity, where to return and put something positive later.

You may bang 1000 women in your life, but you will get rejected by 10 000 and you will fail to approach billions. Therefore it's better not to register negatives, or you will always feel like a loser, just put zeroes on failures.

The power of alter ego is that when it gets hard and if you face some defeat in real life and your confidence starts to shake or you get lazy and unmotivated and feel like shit , you can always think about your alter ego in his thick impregnable armor with a big bad bastard sword and fell strong and confident again. It is important that you have built your alter ego with real life sweat and therefore have a real connection with it that can be activated in times of personal crisis.

I am writing down my goals every sunday for the upcoming week and then every day for the next day. Old school with a pen on a paper after trying different tools. It is really amazing how much more you get done if you set the right goals.

To keep overview over the different kind of goals, like urgent ones, long-term ones, just ideas etc, I use the same system that is recommended in the helpful book "Getting things done".

Add mediation every morning before work and the killing of bad habits as much as possible - big props to the book "The Power of Habit" - and I am easily three times as productive as half a year ago.

Love the idea of seeing yourself in a video game as well.

I keep it simple with a dry erase board. List out shit I need/want to get done the next day, wake up and get to it.

I had trouble following through when I used apps/programs on my phone/computer.

Before I go to bed I always write on the back of scrap paper what my day is going to look like. Always. Even now, I have 30 minutes of chill time scheduled before class. When I get home from the day, I check my paper and see which I accomplished. If there are some tasks that I did not get done, especially background tasks (like checkout a book), I simply schedule it into the next day and repeat.
