Tips for Staying Motivated Through Dreary Work?

To get this thread back ON topic (which is motivation for the essential yet mundane work):

One thing that's really moved the needle recently is getting an accountability partner. Twice a week we check in with tasks we said we'd get done for our businesses and hold each other accountable. So far it's been useful. The social pressure keeps you motivated throughout the week, and you actually get somewhat excited to crush your dull tasks just so you can say you got X milestone done when you meet.

I also made an effort to get to the co-working space regularly. I work online and environment REALLY makes a difference here. Being around smart, ambitious characters really makes you step your game up. When you know the guy next to you is launching a digital product set to make mid five figures in a month, it just doesn't make sense to procrastinate. It's like you can "borrow" motivation from those around you.

That's why they call me Off The Reservation. I soundly reject the premise in your question, it may not be for you necessarily, but for others who may be teetering on the choice between leaving a soul crushing job and actually living their life. (Not a statement on what this job is for you, that's for you to decide.)

If you ran the company you could hire someone else to do the "Dreary" parts. But if you are an employee you ARE that guy hired to do the dreary parts. That's my point.

And I still don't know what ANY of those activities are. Can I short sell some companies run like this??

In no possible world does a small business owner manage to magically hand off or outsource all unpleasant tasks immediately. That's utter fantasy.

I'm all for leveraging employees and contractors for repetitive tasks. But there's no escaping that, quite often, the owner still needs to do plenty of actual unpleasant work.

Particularly during periods of growth, such as product launches or new marketing campaigns. Trust me on this. Hence the thread.

In no possible world??

Do you own this business or are you an employee? ( The one that has you doing vision boards.)

I have owned companies and been self employed for 9 years and have never once for five minutes done an unpleasant or dreary task.

Your premise is that there is tons of grunt and unpleasant work that lies in a giant moat between you and success. Its the mentality of a disgruntaled employee so take my advice if you are self employed or employed it is unlikely to help you.

I know tons of business owners lol you have no idea, and i bet most of them never heard of a vision board.

Sounds like you are part of a corporate team...

And I STILL dont know what these things you mention are.

In summary you are asking "how do get motivated yo do something i dont want to do."

My answer "Become your own boss, if you were you wouldnt have to do anything you dont want to do."

Your answer "Thats impossible it doesnt exist in the real world."

Ok...

As alluded to several times, I run my own business.

Ok cool, you run the business.

Why not eliminate vision boards, whatever they are...

Or start a business that doesnt use vision boards.

Or start a business that you like all the work involved.

Or stop watching Oprah...

I run a business that I love every aspect of. I chose it and its Fucking Cool. Little support tasks i dont like such as accounting are outsourced.
