Cut your loses short and let your winners run

Cut your loses short and let your winners run

This is a very famous saying in the investment community. And even though I am well aware of it, I have lost a ton of money in the stock market by not adhering to it. Why is it difficult? Because we have a hard time taking a lost, any kind of a lost. But by not doing exactly that we end up being forced to eventually take an even bigger one. Now how does this apply to Game?

Think of each woman you approach as an investment. The ones that are taking off, going somewhere, you let run don't do anything to mess things up. The ones that aren't move on, take the small lost of whatever effort you have put into the interaction. It will be a lot easier than taking the bigger lost later on. Also time and energy being invested in a woman that's going nowhere is time and energy NOT being invest in a woman that could go somewhere.

PS This is a mistake I continue to make both with my money and women to this day.

Taking losses at times is tough because often you try to save it by doing low investment things(like sending a text). What is not realized is after a while all those small investment moves add up to one big one and time wasted. And you could had taken the combination of those investments and put it towards multiple leads that actually have potential.

Trying to find the bottom of any market is tough.

i think its a natural mechanism. say, you hunted a deer for several hours, you are fucking tired but you dont stop, because with a little bit more investment you get the desired prey. (you do this if you dont have any other/better options)
you chase the deer, and walk by a "milk and honey river" and fried chicken trees, do you continue the hunt? no you wouldnt, because you have better options

investment beyond all borders is a sign for a lack of options

This apply to one specific situation more than others. It's called the bounce in investment terms. It's the one where the guy gets some initial positive respond from the girl but then things start heading South soon after. Here are two examples:

Guy approaches girl at the bar, girl is friendly enough and they start talking: the bounce. Guy takes that as a sign that she's interested. After 30 mins things are clearly not going anywhere but the guy hangs in there hoping to turn things around. Some guys will sends hours on this one girl hoping to recover that initial bounce. When it doesn't happen they get bummed out and don't hit on any other girls - night wasted.

Guy meets girl, goes on date or more than one date, gets a kiss, or make out or even sex: the bounce. Soon after girl begins to withdraw, things are heading South. Guy hangs in there, focusing more energy on this girl hoping that he can reverse things. The more energy he invest the more emotionally bound to her he becomes. This is usually the start of a case of ONITIS.

In both cases, a guy can spend a lot of mentally energy trying to "figure out" what went wrong. And the more mentally energy you focus on anyone the more emotionally caught up in them you will become and the more difficult it will be cut to your loses and walk away.

In both the stock market and women, the psychology behind our behavior and the "hooks", are the same.

Good timing on this post.

I have had a GF all winter long here in DC. About 3 months. I was talking to a forum member on the phone today that I need to cut my losses now. This bitch is taking up my weekends and free time that I could otherwise be finding a better "investment". Now that Spring aka mating season is here...NEXT!

I think of it as buying way out of the money call options.

Texts take literally seconds. One bang is a good ROI on hundreds of texts.

I'll eat the pennies on the premium for the positive convexity on the upside.

I like selling way out of the money call options! (Seriously, stock wise)

But woman wise, I think you're on the right side of the investment choice.

This one of the oldest game adages in the book:

Always go for the definite bang when you are out.

A lot of guys cock block themselves by trying to go for the hottest girl in the club. If she's the hottest girl in the club, and you feel like you are trying, you probably aren't going to get her.

No need to remember all that Wall Street stuff.

I follow this closely, but after reading Gio's reports, I think I will abandon that principle and see what happens.

Don't forget to diversify your portfolio.

By this I mean keep meeting women, disregard putting too much effort into any one girl, and you will have a portfolio that keeps you above water. (ie. in the pink [Image: icon_biggrin.gif])

On the flip side, when you get a woman to "invest" in you heavy, she will spend YEARS trying to turn her investment around and recoop...

The old "I can change him" illusion

Inevitably, she becomes the bad gambler chasing the big payoff.

I learned about this in a psychology class once.

Humans are risk adverse in respect to gains, and risk acceptant in respect to losses.

That's why humans make reckless decisions when they are in the, "domain of losses." We simply hate to lose.

Although, there are some rare, "cowboy" types that are reckless no matter what.
