Adopting a cat is a badge of honor and independence.

Five months ago, in the wake of a breakup, I adopted a 6-week-old stray kitten. I named him Cat Stevens, bought him a cat tepee and began posting pictures of him on Instagram. The move alarmed some friends, who reflexively feared I was resigning myself, at 26, to a life of loneliness.

But I had some glamorous company. On an episode of HBO’s “Girls” this season, an also newly single Marnie, played by Allison Williams, calls Hannah with some news: She got a kitten. The pop star Taylor Swift tweeted in January, “It is a daily struggle for me to not buy more cats.” Days later Ms. Swift was photographed wearing a T-shirt that read, “The Great Catsby.”

Fails with a man, adopts a cat to fill the void, uses said cat as an excuse for more social media whoring.

Those are actually very high quality cat pictures. Deserving of a place in the ancient Caturday archives.

A woman bragging about her cats is like a guy bragging about how much he jerks off to porn. They're both things lonely people might indulge in, but nothing to be proud of.

The goal is to step up to better things in life, but if you're just getting affirmation on the neurotic things you do, that won't happen. Hence, women are their own worst enemy with all their idiotic validation via "likes" on social media making them proud of what they should not be proud of.

Makes me want to buy into a Korean restaurant out of spite.

The rule of thumb is one cat for every seven years of celibacy.

She's on her way.

The only Cat I would own is a Bobcat since the larger breeds are too dangerous

I like cats, but I don't understand female obsession with them. Same goes for dogs. They seem like stand in children.

I personally love this obsession with cats that emotionally damaged and mentally unstable chick have. I mean, the chick looks pretty cute and if I met this broad somewhere I'd likely be DTF. Once I got back to her apartment and saw she owned a cat though, I'd know right away to go to Red Alert.

She could save a lot of money that's being wasted on cat food and kitty litter by ditching the fur ball and instead getting a tattoo of CRAZY BITCH on her forehead. They both say the same thing.

Cats epitomise what women truly want in a man:

Aloof, does whatever the fuck it wants

Alpha, if it sees a female cat it likes it fucks it... rough (apparently male cats have a barb on their cock they rake inside the female cat's vagina to increase chance of impregnating her), if it seems a male cat inside its territory it fights. It will hunt given the opportunity

It can be trained to crap/piss in a litter box, but that's about it

It's affectionate, but only on its own terms

Rarely shows emotion, predatory, dangerous

My mother's cat is alpha as fuck. He contracted Feline Immunovirus (Cat HIV) 7 years ago after beating the shit out of two other cats in her neighborhood. He was declawed, but still routinely climbs trees, hunts, and brings both baby and adult animals to her doorstep. Usually they are stunned or playing possum, leading me to suspect that the cat pummels them into a stupor just because he can. He is borderline feral, and comes and goes outside as he pleases. Their black lab doesn't mess with him, and has himself killed rabbits and other cat-sized animals before. Sleeps all damn day, and I'm pretty sure he is still out gaming girl cats at night.

The only way he would be more alpha...is if he were a dog.

Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

Yes. Cats are cute and cuddly but, at the same time, just about natures' most vicious, uncompromising killing machines. Like devilishly handsome sociopaths. Women's affinity for them would seem to support the intense attractiveness of the dark triad idea.

Shiiit, one of my ex girl collegue acts like this too. She is 29, she was cute as hell around 4-5 years ago (around 8) starting to hit the wall hard due to lot of party and drinks. Now she broke upo with her long time boyfriend, has a cat, and makes pictures all the time.

Sad, sad ending. I know she wants to have a baby and family very much, but she is just too far gone at this point.

Deus vult!

There's a trend going around with the 25-40 year old women of the midwest of adopting 'special needs' cats...ie cats with 3 legs, or blind cats

Anyone else run into this?

Yes, I have on Facebook. I think social media and the need to do "moral preening" is causing trends like this to become more popular.

Mostly only true of the bourgeois Jews in the diaspora. Speak to Israeli chicks, or more down to earth Jewish girls in the diaspora, and you'll get a completely different picture. No silly cat obsessions there.

Maybe Israel should conscript Jewish girls in the diaspora into their army for two years. Obviously they don't have the legal right, but since they hold themselves out to be the Jewish State, and accept all Jews from abroad as citizens should they wish to be, it's not really unreasonable. Anyway, being taken away from their indulged life and placed into a country and institution where they are not at all indulged would quickly put paid to any cat silliness.
