What to do with Citicard Thank You Points
03-07-2014, 04:15 PM
So I have ~ 250,000 citi Thank You points that'll begin to expire soon.
What is the best use of these in terms of value?
I can use them for airfare, hotel, trinkets, electronics, and even redeem them for money as far as I can tell.
Has anyone redeemed a shit ton of these for a trip around the world or for hotel rooms, etc?

I've used them for airfare and hotels -- this seems to be the best bang for the buck. 250k pts ~= $2.5k from what I've experienced. You can also combine the points with regular credit/cash on airfare (possibly other categories), so a $3k flight would cost you $500 after using your 250k pts. Citi has a decent expedia-ish interface for travel (it may actually be powered by expedia).

I didn't have quite that many, but couldn't book anything and fit in the time frames available. The deadline really came up on me, so I donated them to Make a Wish (the charity that does nice things for kids with terminal diseases).
I'd had them from work trips from many, many years ago, so I didn't really earn them and actually forgot about them.
I felt great, but be warned they are not tax deductible.

^ Nice, that was a super generous thing to do.
As far as how far out to book a flight, I recently read that 54 days is sort of a magic number to get the best price.
So sounds like airfare is the best deal.
