Record number of wives are more educated than their husbands

The Pew Research Center reports that for the first time in the 50 years that this data has been collected, more women than men are marrying spouses with a lower educational level than themselves. In 2012, 27% of women married a less educated spouse, but only 15% of men did so.

From this article:

Quote:Quote:

for the first time since Pew Research has tracked this trend over the past 50 years, the share of couples in which the wife is the one “marrying down” educationally is higher than those in which the husband has more education.

Among married women in 2012, 21% had spouses who were less educated than they were—a threefold increase from 1960, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of Census data.

So what is this a sign of? The beta-ization of America? a new age of hen-pecked husbands unable to win a battle of wits with their highly educated wives?

In general, girls receive more encouragement to achieve higher education. Men in turn receive more encouragement to achieve financial success.

Girls are naturally more suited for higher education, since it generally involves a lot of ass kissing, following a very structured curriculum, and mimicking whatever your professors believe in. Men are in general less suited for this type of behavior, which is why many men will avoid getting a graduate degree if they can find a way to get to the money without it.

When men do get graduates degrees it is more often for a profession that absolutely requires it as a barrier to entry (doctor, lawyer) or as a way to get a brand name on their resume to break into upper management (a top 10 MBA).

Of course there are some girls who are practical like men with their education, but there also many, especially in capital cities, that pursue graduate degrees for pure status whoring.

More degrees does not mean more educated or intelligent.

This is a result of worthless master's and PhD's.

More preening about their "accomplishments."

This is a good point. Come to think of it, while there are lots of women who get graduate degrees in practical but soft subjects like counseling, education, and human resources management, there are many women who get degrees in things like public policy which do seem like status whoring credentials.

A women's level of academic education is so attractive to men like a high number of bottles a homeless man has is attractive to women

or Education or Veterinary. Vets have to have an advanced degree and lots of educators get masters' degrees. Plus lots of para-medical fields (OT/PT/Speech Therapy) require post-bachelors certification. Shit, you need to go to cosmetology school to cut hair. Cosmetologist marrying a construction worker, she's got more education than he does.

Credentials from higher ed != intelligence.

Most of the people I see going through the masters process are pathetic shells of individuals. The women are cold, the men pussies, and their egos so fragile they all collect together to feel better about their lack of confidence.

The elitism is absolutely disgusting. I do enjoy getting a good laugh out of the amount of debt they pile on.

I would say look at the types of degrees. Let's cut out sociology, women studies, communications, English, and political science degrees. Lets get real, they're worth the same as a GED/high school degree. A man with a welding certificate is probably better rounded for life than a woman with a masters degree in sociology.

And what about the overall marriage rate? It's at a record low. Perhaps this is because girls won't marry men with less education. Those that do marry "down" could actually be statistical outliers when looking at the bigger picture of falling marriage rates.

It's true that women are more educated. The net result:

1. Guaranteed divorce.
Statistically, essentially ALL smarter/higher-earning women will divorce their husbands. All of them.

2. War.
Men as a less educated/unemployed underclass means the formation of armies and revolutionary groups in less than a decade. That leads inevitably to war. With real guns, folks. Destruction of cities en masse. Millions dead. That was the absolute lesson of World War II. Now all the leaders who learned that lesson are gone. Guess what we have now? The slow build up to world war.

Yes, there is.

"One April, 2005 study, by Adrian J. Blow for the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy summed it up: 'If a woman has more education than her partner, she is more likely to have a sexual relationship outside of her primary relationship; if her husband has more education, she is less likely to engage in infidelity.'"

This quote originally ran as part of a 2006 Forbes article called "Don't Marry a Career Woman," that caused so much controversy they had to run a counterpoint. The original article is on the left of this link; the counterpoint they added later is on this right.

If you don't want to give Forbes the Web click because of their buckling under to political correctness, someone saved it on this blog.

Of course! What smart guy would get married in this poison atmosphere?

Three of the four married women in my department are providers to their husbands. One husband is a musician, one is a handyman, one is out of work.

I could live with that as a reason to get married - jumping up several strata, knowing that if you get bored you walk away with cash & prizes.

But marrying a girl so that SHE can 'have her day', then she walks away with spousal support? Hell no.

I think the "who has more education" thing only bothers men who loses out on both (education AND money) when compared to the woman.

Trust me, I have talked to quite a few educated women (I live in the DC area) and usually when I reply with credentials with "B.S. Applied Math, M.S. Engineering (Systems)"....you would think the wrestler Chris Jericho was in the same room telling them "Shut.......the......hell.....up!"

Them chicks know that their PhD in Whatever-Non-Marketable-Social-Science does not hold candle to me.

I like where you're going with this train of thought. I wish I had more to add to it.

When you fix the data to reflect the fact that almost all BA+MA combinations are less education than a single BS, how does it still stack up?

Having a PhD, MA, and BA in anthropology is not as impressive to me as having a BS in mechanical engineering.
