Jospeh Gordon Levitt Says He Is A Feminist

His film "Don Jon" told a story of a man with a skewed perspective on women. Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt talked to Ellen about it, and why he thought it was an important story to tell.

He told Ellen how his mother has influenced his thinking. "That was something that my mom would always point out to my brother and me, that our culture does often portray women especially… like objects. For example, we would always watch Lakers games as a family, but my mom would always point out every time the cheerleaders come on, 'Okay, so look, here's the story that gets told: The men get to be the heroic skilled athletes and the women just get to be pretty.' She didn't mean any offense to any individual woman who was working as a cheerleader, but she wanted me and my brother to be aware of it because we see these images on TV, in the movies, and on magazines all the time. And if you don't stop and think about it, it just sort of seeps into your brain and that becomes the way you perceive reality."

"I do call myself a feminist. Absolutely!" Joseph explained. "It's worth paying attention to the roles that are sort of dictated to us and that we don't have to fit into those roles. We can be anybody we wanna be."

Well guess we know why Don Jon was so ridiculous.

I would take all of this with a huge grain of salt.

Feminism/liberal ideology is the official religion on Hollywood. You pretty much have to regurgitate this garbage to keep your job. For most million dollar actors/actresses it is a worthy trade-off even if they don't really believe it. Because if you sin against this all powerful religion--you lose your job/luxury lifestyle.

oh, that explains why "DON JON" was such a terribly disgusting movie and the young good looking guy chooses in the end an ugly old 55-60 years old woman [Image: sad.gif][Image: sad.gif][Image: sad.gif]

I don't know what to make of this. I would think he was speaking to a particular audience, so he was saying what they'd like to hear by relaying things his mother said. I like him as an actor - I've really enjoyed his work. I watched "Looper" again last night. Unless he's making the rounds for a project, you don't see or hear a lot about him - he stays off the radar, and doesn't really hang around the Hollywood scene. I don't get the gay vibe off of him, but who knows.

JGL has a massive "following" on sites like Tumblr and Reddit where he's treated as their celebrity nerd god, he knows where is fanbase is and like you said is probably speaking to them.

Something we've touched on here is how male roles have definitely been weakened in television and film, particularly in television where almost every male in a sitcom is a helpless goof that's subjected to constant abuse and disrespect from the wife and kids. In film, I'm tired of seeing male characters going to hookers for comfort (which Gordon-Levitt's character in "Looper" did). On dating sites, I can't count how many women list "Pretty Woman" as a favorite film.

Hey, I actually think he is telling the truth when he is referring to himself as a feminist but he was playing up to a predominantly female audience on the Ellen show.

I also think that he is coming from the same school of thought/angle as Ryan Gosling (The sensitive/intelligent bad boy who all women can tame bullshit)

He may or may not be telling the truth. In either case, it reminds me of this Tweet I sent yesterday. As Stevie Nicks put it, "tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies."

First, he's on Ellen DeGeneres' program, and she's a lesbian, so he's probably changing his opinion for her and the majority of his fans. Unfortunately, Hollywood is more phony now than it ever used to be, and the majority of them just regurgitate whatever to stay in their luxurious lifestyles.

If you're not fucking her, someone else is.

I think when he says he's a feminist, he doesn't mean he's in hook, line and sinker. He pointed out that he's observant of certain images. That's it. If any of you watched "Gigolos" on Showtime, Vin states in the opening of the show that he loves women, studying them, and that he considers himself a real feminist. He bangs bitches for a living, and also had a girlfriend on the show. She tried to get him to move to another city with her where she got a job, and he said NO. I don't necessarily know what it means when a guy says he's a feminist. It could mean that he's all for women pursuing career and being independent, or he could be one of those mangina-types that walks around in high heels in sympathy. I wouldn't pigeonhole Levitt based on this appearance on Ellen.

He, and all these other male celebrities coming out as "feminists," are just "making women nod."

I just hope more men find out about the manosphere, Red Pill, and Game. I understand Joseph Gordon Levit is trying to cater to his female fanbase and keep his revenue stream in check. However this stuff is doing harm to the average everyday man

in the movie Looper, Joseph Gordon Levitt
suicides at the end, just to save a woman who hates him,
from being touched or injured...

So Joseph Gordon Levitt is the worst kind of white knight as well,
and he is pushing the worst kind of propaganda

What's the point of even saying something like this? Why not just be a nice guy when you're on tv? Woukdnt be surprised if most actors were in the closet.
