How long is too much travel time?

How long is too much travel time?

It depends on the person. I've been traveling now for over a year in over 25 countries and I'm not bored at all. I find it liberating actually - I travel on the cheap and only spent 20k USD my first year. That would not even pay for my apartment back home in the US. I just have a few clothes in my backpack and that's it. I eat at local places and stay in hostels and guesthouses and I usually meet a ton of people so I'm never really alone. I never get homesick because I know I'm living the life that most people dream of but are too pussy to actually try.

It's not for everyone but for me it works. Before this I was trying to be "normal" with a high paying job, a nice apartment, car, lots of toys, expensive restaurants, and even more expensive dates. All that stuff is okay, but now I realize that it's just superficial crap. A person can be happy living out of a bag moving from place to place every few days. If fact, once you get rid of all the superficial stuff in your life you realize what's really important. To me that is liberating, to others it sucks. To each his own. As I learned a long time ago most people in the world are settlers, but a small minority are explorers. If you are an explorer then you will be miserable living the life of a settler.

I'm envious of you nomadicdude, would love to have the funds to travel for a year. I love to just have my backpack and whatever can be fit into it and just travel. It's true when you travel you're never really alone especially if you stay in hostels, always someone for company and it's great to meet new people all the time.

Good on you.

How do you fund all this if you don't mind me asking?

Started the trip that I am currently on in Aug 2009 and am up to around 30 countries in to it so far.

Currently in Cyprus. Will probably take the ferry to Turkey on Monday and work my way around Turkey before going to Greece.

Lumiere,
So you left the Phils after spending about a year there, right? Did you get tired of it all and how easy are the Pinoy chics to pick up and wanted a new challenge? Also, in your current around the world trip, where would you say you liked the most in terms of the overall package? (weather, friendliness of the locals, hot, sexy, feminine women and cost of living and array of things to do during the day other than picking up chicks?).

Thanks man.

How long is too much travel time?

I have decided to put all traveling on hold for a while, I have recently relocated to San Diego where it seems to be all I am looking for (new scene, many acitivities, tons of girls, great night life, may tourists, plus I have all my at home luxuries/toys/comfort). Looking back on my travel to Dubai and Thailand for that one month, it cost me over $7,000 (airfare, hotels, etc). There are plenty of ways I can spend that money locally and have a blast. Yes I over indulged in certain items, mistakes were made and on my next trip I will be a bit more conservative. Although I am still in the honey moon phase here in SD, who knows when it will wear off.

So my question is for the guys who live in these larger metropolitan/tourist areas (chicago, NY, LA, Miami, Vegas, etc) do you still have a need to travel frequently?

Nah, prob spent a total of 3 months there on this trip and that was split across a few visits.

Nope. There are more than 7,100 islands. I felt like I only scratched the surface of what there is to do there.

Chicks there are easy but you have to filter out a lot of them. Specifically the ones that are behaving in a transactional way.

Philippines, Taiwan and S.Korea.

All of S.America was pretty awesome too with the exception of Brazil due to cost and my lack of Portugese.

You found not tallking Portuguese a problem in Brazil? Mines is VERY basic, most of the people I travelled with and met in Brazil didn't talk a single word of Portuguese and still did well.

Brazil for me was the best country in all of S . America despite my basic Spanish being MUCH better than my basic Porto.
