The Louis CK thread

The media has thrown a temper tantrum about his new act because they're furious he did not abide by their demands. He was supposed to be "controlled".

Quote:Quote:

A year ago, stand-up comic Louis C.K. confirmed sexual misconduct accusations made against him, which included incidents where he masturbated in front of female colleagues, were “true."

Then he said he was going to disappear for a while.

“I have spent my long and lucky career talking and saying anything I want,” C.K. said in response to a New York Times investigation into the matter. “I will now step back and take a long time to listen."

[Louis C.K. responds to sexual misconduct allegations: ‘These stories are true’]

In a new, crude stand-up routine recorded inside a Long Island comedy club in December, which leaked online over the weekend, C.K. explains what he did during that long listening window. He fled New York City, which he now hates, and did some traveling in small U.S. towns, which he said made him uncomfortable. C.K. lost money, he said, a lot of money — $35 million in one day. Then he went to France “because I thought I should leave the nation,” he said.

The set, which continued for 45 minutes without directly mentioning the actions that derailed his career, included a sexually explicit joke about 9-year-old girls wearing Old Navy boyfriend-style jeans. The routine mocked young people who identify as gender neutral, featured a five-minute bit about what the comic believes is an absurd political correctness surrounding the word “retarded” and criticized the student survivors of mass school shootings for testifying before Congress.

“What are you doing? You’re young. You should be crazy, unhinged. Not in a suit, saying ‘I’m here to tell…’" C.K. said in the audio clip. “You’re not interesting because you went to a high school where kids got shot. Why does that mean I have to listen to you? How does that make you interesting. You didn’t get shot. You pushed some fat kid in the way and then, now I gotta listen to you talking?”

The bit continued, referring to the February mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., that killed 17 students and staff.

Everybody gets upset when there’s a shooting at a high school. I don’t really see why it’s any worse than anybody else dying. I don’t. Cuz a lot of people die, every day 7,500 people die in America, okay, so that day 17 kids got shot in a school. What about the other... 7,500 people. They didn’t die in their sleep. Some of them got electrocuted. By their parents. People get upset because they’re young. Because they died so young. That’s offensive to me.

It looks like he has no big agency representing him, so he can pretty much say whatever the hell he wants:

Quote:Quote:

Louis C.K. has lost his longtime manager, 3 Arts Entertainment’s Dave Becky, publicist Lewis Kay as well as APA Agency, which had repped his successful comedy touring business, in the wake of the sexual misconduct allegations against him that he confirmed today.

“We have terminated our relationship with Louis C.K.,” 3 Arts Management said in a statement. “We are committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for our staff, clients and the community at large. We are doing a full internal review regarding this situation and are taking additional steps to strengthen our processes and procedures while engaging with our staff to address any concerns about harassment or abuse of power. This behavior is totally unacceptable in all circumstances and must be confronted and addressed.”

C.K.’s publicist Kovert Creative confirmed that the agency was no longer representing the Emmy winner. His former rep Lewis Kay also tweeted he was dropping the actor.

I just hope he doesn't apologise. Reason has a good take on it. Excerpt:

Quote:Quote:

But many in the media have seized upon the idea that Louis C.K. has suddenly became a right-winger—that his new material is some dramatic departure from his pre-scandal days as a woke comedy icon. "Audio of a New Louis C.K. Set Has Leaked, and It's Sickening," warns Slate, striking the tone of a nun listening to Eminem for the first time. The Daily Beast accuses Louis C.K. of "pandering to the alt-right," which is quite the broad categorization; the tons of people—New Yorkers, presumably—who can be heard laughing in the background of the leaked footage would probably be surprised to learn that they take their cues from Richard Spencer.

Political correctness' peak I thought was 2015... I was wrong, it's getting worse and worse. More and more people hate it, but the ones that don't are doubling down. At least that's my take. To see people like Judd Apatow on twitter is just embarrassing, comedy is supposed to be a bastion of free speech. But unfortunately it's being co-opted by the modern far left like every other medium.

The irony of course is that Che Guevara would have all these faggots rounded up and shot. What on earth has happened to these people? I'll give Ricky Gervais credit, he's made a not-too-obvious crack at them and supported Dankula. Americans tend to be more puritanical than other Anglos and especially continental Europeans, maybe that's something to do with it.

Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. - H L Mencken

Here's the full set on YouTube. Easily one of his best. I'm sure a lot of these jokes were tabled in the past because of his contracts and commitments.

What are the odds he had this leaked on purpose?

Exactly. I'm amazed yet not amazed that people like Judd Apatow are trying to tell other comedians what is acceptable. He is letting his pathetic virtue signalling (which he engages in on a daily basis on Twatter) get in the way of what he should rightly know is an industry that is only succeeding if it pushes the envelope and rips apart society's sacred cows.

Apatow has thankfully quietened down on his daily rantings about Cosby (rape is apparently bad, folks) but he really needs to pipe the fuck down down about everything else.

I'll also never forgive him for giving Lena Dunham a career.

Don't SJWs cry about consent all the time? Louie asked for permission, so I don't don't see what the big deal is. And the guy wasn't even famous when he was doing that shit, so again, don't see the big deal.

That set was funny. Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

They're worried that a guy as intelligent and insightful as Louis doesn't buy into their agenda.

Louis has an amazing way of speaking the truth (like any great comic), and everything he said in this set that angered the SJWs, is true.

They are so nervous that a comic this brilliant will make them look the fools they are.

In this set, after telling a joke that shocked the audience, he said "what are they gonna do, take away my birthday? My life's over, I don't care"

He doesn't want their approval anymore. He doesn't give a fuck.

I listened to the bootleg set and while there were some funny moments (mostly in the beginning), Louis' style of humor makes him come across as a disturbed man. Many of his jokes seem to be about genitalia, murder, or degradation.

He's fucked up, but it's raw and its funny. That was better then any of the shit I've heard recently from the likes of Joe Rogan and the rest of the stale Netflix backed nevertrumpers.

I'd like to feel sorry for him, but a big part of his act is self-flagellating white guilt. No thanks.

I've never been a fan Louise C.K., but in the leaked audio it sounds like he's channeling George Carlin with his Anti-SJW rant -- who I actually like and wish was still alive today. Best take on this comes from Sargon of Akkad on his Thinkery channel. Liked his point about the older generation being told not be to do drugs, have promiscuous sex, etc. Of course, this lead to kids rebelling against their parent's wishes. Now that they've grown up... their kids (Millennials) have had no such restrictions and are rebelling in an entirely different and unexpected way.

Yup. His schtick always seemed to be, "I joke around about degenerate stuff but I'm actually a nice guy. To prove it, here are some jokes about how white people suck and how men are trash. I'm like a teddy bear with a dirty sense of humor, you should like and trust me". Once the veil gets lifted, you can see how this type of person deliberately constructs a public image in order to cover up their true nature as thoroughly and believably as possible (also see: Bill Cosby).

In our celebrity worshipping culture we've come to see comedians as philosphers rather than clowns (I think this began with George Carlin who did have a lot of good insight into the nature of society, which paved the way for guys like Bill Hicks). Louis is still a worthwhile entertainer, but now we're forced to see him as just that, a source of entertainment and nothing more. One more step in lifting the veil/taking the redpill/whatever metaphor you prefer. Ultimately a good thing.

"Philosophers rather than clowns" - more than just that; cult leaders.

Even Carlin, and Bill Hicks, both of whom I greatly respect and admire, had their flaws. If you rewatch them today, they tend towards viewing certain institutions as monolithic, and utterly missed how their own Libertarian ideas could be used against them. How Libertarianism could be twisted into Libertinism.

When people read Plato (on the rare occasion that they do) they read him within context, and consider his ideas without swearing blind allegiance to them. I've been enjoying some of Quintus Curtius' translated books of philosophy, and while I find them inspiring, I'm not driven to blindly adhere to Stoic philosophy.

But comedians - possibly because of the charisma, or it could be the absolute lack of spiritual direction in most peoples' lives - get treated like messiahs, their words sacrosanct.

I don't put this upon them, but upon the audience. We need to do better.
