Go to Montreal. NYC is a clusterfuck during NY'rs and prices are through the roof. Personally, I'm not too big on NY'rs celebrations but I would choose Montreal between the two. Easier to get around, not as expensive, and there should be talent out that night of course.
Montreal will be freezing NYE, so be warned.
NYC sucks for NYE. I've gotten outta there the past couple years and will be doing so again this year.
Yes, it could be easy to pull but you're also dealing with amateur hour drinkers, gridlock transportation, and cold weather.
I say it could be easy to pull, because unless your logistics are super tight, you're fighting a battle against a girl that is probably not from Manhattan and is with a large group of friends. Many NYC people go to private apartments or rooftop shindigs and leave the bars for out of towners and people from NJ & LI.

Montreal is -20 right now, but good luck . I only celebrated at friends flat here so I can't tell about the bars.
Don't come to NY especially 230 fifth...
Not only will you be paying marked up prices but at a shitty venue that won't even have their normal "crowd". (Can you say amateur crowd) Also you music line up sounds much better even if its -20.
