Stories come from experience. When you tell one you are going through the emotions you felt when this cool thing actually happened. And it shows in your body language, congruency.

If you are just running a gimmick story you have no attached emotions and it'll sound like you're reading from a script.

Unless you're an actor. OR you've gone through so many retellings of a story that the heightened emotions from the retelling itself have Granted that congruency.

These days I can channel the thrill of the chase into any of my stories. Whether it's genuine or improvised. But that takes a lot of fucking up t get to and as Midwest points out you have to have a life. Go out there and throw yourself at the world and the anecdotes will come by themselves and be truly genuine.

Naw, you've got enough going on in your daily life to tell a compelling story.

For instance, tonight
- I left my boring cubicle job to go to micro center to come up on a nice AMD chip and Motherboard combination
- (on the cool, they got me thinking I should go with an A10 or an Intel, when I was really feeling the FX series...I digress),
- hit my local jewish deli for a pastrami sandwich (dry, i'm depressed)
- and from there drove through traffic to the gym (weak session) and
- then to Wal-Mart (long ass line, coke machine gave me a diet coke instead of cherry, is that Allah sending me a sign that I shouldn't drink soda after I work out), and finally home.

Pretty hum drum. Guy leaves work, shops, eats, works out, shops again.

I'm sure a bunch of you reading this did something just as boring.

So if I ran into a lizard and she asked me how my day was, here's what i'd say.

____________________

You know your boy right? (I start out a lot of conversations with this phrase - they don't actually know me, but it helps them get comfortable)

So after hearing these idiots yammer on for 11 hours, it was time for me to roll out and get things popping

Of course, as I'm packing the briefcase and grabbing my suit jacket, Mr. Motor Mouth regales me with a tale of how long his traffic commute is gonna be.

"see i'm gonna spend an hour in town before I even get to the highway that takes me"

This mf'er don't see me trying to Exit Stage Left? You got a cat like that at work, that just wants to chat you up when you're clearly going to do something else?

Chunk'ed the deuce at old boy, got in the Ac. Engine is strong, but the Japanese don't really put a lot of soul into their cars. When I used to push the German, man....

You know that feeling you get when everything comes together just right.
When you know you can get your strut on...

Well the TL just don't do it like the E-class did. Are you into cars? Not a lot of women are, but I get that "I like to drive" vibe from you.

So I'm floating through traffic and realize I need to grab something for the home office. Clients kill me with these late night requests, "oh I need a document, or we're gonna sue"

I hit the local computer spot right....you know where this is going...

Suited down as my usual, these techies are just prattling on about some game, league of legends or some nonsense. I get BRANNNNNNDARD, his name was BRANDARD to assist me in trying to spec out the work pc. His boy, Asian kid who was jamming on a mechanical typewriter , who's off duty, challenges him to a spec off.

I'm like what, a spec off...

So Brandard and I guess Hung Ly jump onto terminals trying to come up with the cheapest price.

They was so serious. Bruce Lee was saying BRANDARD was gonna lose cause he was too fat. Shit was hilarious.

Jackie Chan came in at 760, but BRANDARD got my specs in at 680.

I'M STILL UNDEFEATED, said BRANNNNDARD

And they was still over priced. I meant 700 for everything...

Made my connects though, never know when you might need a tech in your back pocket.

My boy hit me up and was talking about some Mexican eating, but I've been trying to hit up this Deli in town. Supposed to be the best one, but I dunno if it's gonna compare to Katz's in NYC, hell even City Deli in DC.

You ever been to Jewish Deli?
Don't mean like a Jason's Deli, but a real deal, keeping it Hasidic type deli?

Soon as I step in the joint, I see a Morty and Saul type playing the background chopping it up about business. Couple of old ladies gumming some Matzoh ball soup... I could almost smell the mothballs and gefilte fish.

And here I am looking like a young Don King...

But it was real smooth. I'll have to scoop you, get you hip to my half sour pickle game. You ever try eastern european food? You haven't? Cool, we got something we can do...

Once I had the protein and carbs in the system, I hit the gym.

Of course the 2 creepy old guys were there wearing next to nothing in the locker room. They got the same folks at your gym?

So it's pretty late, so the evening shift isn't there. It's the student athletes, power lifters, old timers, and ladies with a lot of core strength if you know what I mean.

Meanwhile I dodge Thor and the Incredible Hulk and grab the not too light weights, but really a little bit more I can handle.

You ever get self-conscious at the gym...

Anyway, as I'm killing it the best way I possibly can, this She Hulk grabs the bench next to me with 2 90 lb dumb bells.

What are you, like 90-95 lbs? Imagine lying on your back, with one of you in each hand, and going UGGGHHH.

.............I could go on and on like this

So to tell a story, you don't really need to have 3 acts.

You need
- lots of interesting details that she can draw impressions from and ask questions about
- you can humble brag all you want - in my case, suited up, briefcase, clients always calling me, driving a Benz, - all stuff that goes with my image.
- you can probe her reactions by the things that you say
- You can invent characters and stories within the story.

You don't need to lie at all.
You do need to make a production out of it.
You do need to start really observing your life.
Not just the things in it, but how you feel at all points during the day.
And what parts of the things that you feel are universal, or quirky, or funny

You don't need to bog down with the technical details, but focus on the the parts of the story that anyone can relate to.

You're plenty interesting enough.

And when you run into a boring ass girl, and you will, you can turn her humdrum life into Game of Thrones, full of intrigue, backstabbing, violence, and sex.

Oh you're librarian? So what books have you banned?
Oh you're in HR? Oh you got some dirt, tell me about harassment

Oh you went to the nail salon today? You ever think they're talking about you
Of you went grocery shopping today? Lemme guess, Trader Joe's

There's enough in pretty much any situation where you can ask about, or talk about the craziness and absurdity of it all.

Hey bro. You and I have a lot in common. The best I can tell you is "fake it 'til you make it."

Start by watching some comics on Comedy Central or at your local comedy club and steal their jokes and stories. Follow up by doing something interesting this weekend -- get a copy of the Fodor's for your nearest big city and pick one interesting thing to do.

As far as friends go, well, I don't have a lot either. There are threads on the forum that discuss whether that's actually bad, how to make more, etc.

Good luck.

How to become a better story teller

I used to be a shitty story teller. Even though I had plenty of interesting life experience, I was too serious, not emotional enough, too bland, and too simple.

I don't like to tell stories. I just state the facts. I don't get all dramatic and emotive. I downplay most of my experiences.

I realized that this was hurting my game. Telling a good a story can demonstrate social skills, confidence, value, etc.

I decided to become a better story teller. I started to observe and emulate my friends who are good story tellers.

With practice, I got much better, mostly through observing, studying, and mimicking great story tellers.

It's an artform. The spoken word is powerful.

Holy shit guys thank you for this. I do have some pretty unique hobbies but not the kind that will make you cool, powerlifting and judo... Both are really blue collar type sports and require lots of boring repetitions before you can get good. But I will make sure to be more observant throught the day even if it's simple things like going to the walmart. I will make sure to do some going to events and traveling on weekends. Hey how do you guys find out about events, concerts and stuff to do? I usually do facebook but my friends are all married or betas so I don't get good inside information?

unless your shit is really really lame like my little pony you can prob make use of it. Chicks are really superficial and gullible so you just need to spin yourself to them in a way that implies to them an overall image of an interesting guy that has shit going on and is awesome/stands out in some way. You just drop juicy hints and bait at a steady natural pace like roosh goes into in his books and let them put the pieces together in the way they like best instead of directly feeding an image to them.

As you find girls digging your shit you can learn from them what they like in your persona and use it as feedback to present yourself even better. Also try not to lie too much unless you're really good at it. Exaggerating and omitting details is golden though, low risk high reward if you are subtle and not tryhard.

And yeah like everyone else says do and learn cool shit. You'll be able to actually be somebody which gives you way more to work with gamewise (and makes your life not shit)

Final note nothing is better than experiencing well executed stories to learn how it's done. Shit like gonzo journalism is great for this. Also talented comedians and good podcasts for a more visual/auditory take that can also help your delivery.

Really, one of the best ways of seguing into interesting conversations is to use the "That reminds me of the time i <insert interesting/funny story that shows value, or talk about a holiday you were on recently where you did something crazy/funny/cool>
The above is used after you have already broken the ice with a chick and she has just mentioned something she did, it could be something mundane, anything really, your job as the man is the use that to segue into your "That reminds me of" line
If the chick has even the slightest interest in you and is not a complete bitch, she will bite, and then it's easier to keep the ball rolling from there, as you've already established you're a cool interesting witty guy with stories to tell

1. Have a more active life: do sports, travel, go out

2. If you don't have interesting stuff to say, let her talk by asking questions (avoid boring topics like work and the weather), women love to talk about themselves

Watch one episode of Seinfeld a day. Seinfeld is an American comedy program that will teach you two things: (1) how to spit humor that girls like, and (2) how to have long, meandering conversations (i.e. how to ramble). What’s great about the show is that it offers quintessential American humor that will be well-received anywhere in the country, and even in foreign countries as well. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve successfully used word-for-word bits from the show in my pickups. The best time to watch an episode is right before heading out to approach. You can find used DVDs of the show for only a few bucks.

I agree, Podcasts have helped me a lot with my story telling.

My favorite is the Joe Rogan Experience. Definitely recommend.

Joe, as a comedian, often talks about how important repetition is for stand up. How many times they have to go up, bomb, adjust, go up, adjust, go up, adjust, and so on until the bit is flawless in its timing and delivery.

Also, what I noticed a while ago by hanging out with naturals and good story tellers; is that they tell the same stories over and over. Ones that demonstrate higher value and that they're adventurous and many other attractive attributes. So by repeating them over and over, the stories become second nature. The timing and delivery are flawless.

I say come up with a few stories that show attractive attributes and practice them over and over until you have them down.

That's the problem right there. You haven't done shit. Which is the reason why you cant tell stories, because you haven't done anything. So there's nothing to tell.

Go out and travel and see the world. On the weekends when you are off pay a greyhound bus and travel to your nearest city. Read books so you can soak knowledge and words into your brain. Get active. Women like adventurous guys. Good luck.

This is good advice.

To add though, if you are not good at telling stories because of lack of experience, then talk about your passions. Things you are passionate about, or heavily interested in. Obviously talking about pizza and video games is a no no, but say you're interested in art, discuss your favourite paintings and how much a great piece of work affects you on a personal level. Shit like that, for university aged women anyways, seems to do me good, but of course, it only seems to have a grand effect if it's relevant to both of you guys in the first place.

However, don't completely resort to this forever, it's good to get experiences under your belt, and I agree with Mr. Midwest, travel to a neighbouring city, even if it's just for a day, and explore and talk to people, and bring those stories with you back to where you live; "I was in *insert random ass city here* and I saw the funniest thing" boooooooom
