I dont know.. Do you know anyone better than him? Anyone able to do what he did?

Inspired Anderson Silva.

1) Revolutionized hand to hand combat
2) Invent MMA
3) Advanced and evolved our approach to athletic training
4) Revolutionized Art and Film
5) Revolutionized Philosophy

Lee did not invent MMA. Dana White said that in the early UFC days in order to bring the karate kids to like the sport. Pankration (which was Greek MMA) was during the fucking B.C. era and it was a mixture of boxing, wrestling takedowns and submission holds.

1 & 3 are debatable.

4 & 5 How?

IMO, Lee was just a person who was very dedicated to martial arts but his invincible aura was given to him by his fanboys. You ever watch an MMA fight on youtube and the top comment is always: "Bruce Lee would knock him out and anyone else out."

Fuck.

That.

Mutha Fuckin'.

Shit.

EDIT- Btw, even before Lee and after Pankration came "Bartitsu." It was an English MMA system which combine cane-fighting, judo, jiu-jitsu, Savate (French kickboxing, and boxing. SO FUCK THAT BULLSHIT ABOUT BRUCE LEE INVENTING SHIT! Not you but those little cock suckers out there.

Some of Bruce Lee's "fanboys":

Anderson Silva -

Who are you idols?

"I am the biggest fan of Bruce Lee. I especially like his philosophy of Jeet Kune Do. But I'm also a fan of Muhammad Ali and Roy Jones Jr. those are guys for whom I tip my hat. Outside the ring, I would say Michael Jordan, Pele and Ronaldo. People think I say this because of my contract with 9ine, but it is not."

Would you have liked to have fought Bruce Lee?

"No. I would like to have known him and to have had lessons with him. But to risk a fight with Bruce Lee? No."

Sugar Ray Leonard
-

You've always been so smart and versatile in the ring. You always adapted to the situation and to your opponent.

"My versatility comes from emulating Bruce Lee! He was one of my idols. And like Sugar Ray Robinson, he was an entertainer. Ali was bigger than life too. And those were the three people that I modeled myself after. I tried to emulate that inner strength, the ability to be strategic and technical in and outside the ring."

Manny Pacquiao -

To explain the way he fights, he settled on three words.

“Like Bruce Lee,” he said.

Growing up in the Philippines, Pacquiao studied Lee, watching his movies on endless loops. He still often views his collector’s set. “Enter the Dragon” is his favorite. His conditioning coach, Alex Ariza, says he believes Pacquiao built his baseline movement off Lee’s template, the continual attacking, the feet drummed in and out.

Miguel Torres and Frank Mir -

As for your questions on how he revolutionized film and philosophy, the latter has already been explained but the former refers to his role as one of the first Asian actors in American cinema and the most successful of that time period. He also played an enormous role in making martial arts movies popular in the States and opened doors for the Jackie Chan's, Jason Statham's, etc. Not to mention his huge role in going against the orthodoxy of the time to allow non-Asians to learn their martial arts.

Steve McQueen -

Was a friend and student of Lee's.

Jean Claude Van Damme -

"For example, the number one martial arts superstar of all time was Bruce Lee. When I look back at him, I tried to model myself after him in so many ways. I would suggest to a "Hollywood want to be," do the same. The first thing you must do is to be in absolutely perfect physical condition. This means you must really watch your diet and you must also train weights so that you look lean and cut as much as possible. Take a look at Bruce's photos or him in "Enter The Dragon" and you will see how cut he was. His total body fat had to be about 4 percent. He was real lean and in great shape. I did exactly the same thing. I still train hard, and before I go into a picture I increase my training and really watch my diet."

Jason Statham -

Who are Jason's biggest influences?

"There's Bruce Lee and then, of course, there's Sly."

It's crazy that someone can be considered "hype" when every major fighter and action star idolizes them.

Guy never proved how good he was though many think he was like superman. This is called a cult.

Being friends with McQeen proves nothing. Became McQeen a greate JKD fighter or a philospher?

Cult followers can also be fighters. Specially fighting guys like worshipping idols.

Even if he would be a great teacher in MA it´s not like he found a cure against a major disease. Again celebrity worship.

Btw guy had worst survival skills and same with his son, not very antifragile.

What approaches did he revolutionise to athletic training? Got any specific examples?

He was one of the first athletes to popularize:

- "Cross-training"
- "Circuit training"
- Keeping extensive notes about diet and how it effects performance.
- Strength training of the fingers, toes, neck, ankles, etc.
- "Balance work" for athletes.
-"Sport specific" stretching and flexibility.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar went to him for help with flexibility and balance.

Fair point.

Maybe, Bruce was the one who popularized it in the modern era.

The Greeks knew the value of diversity in terms of their fighting arts. After them, things got a bit more structured and less diverse.

Bruce brought the skill diversity back to fighting. Or, at least he made it popular again.

Both questions have already been answered in this thread.

Feel free to debate them if you have a different opinion.

Yes, this is why he came to the United States.

He had so many street fights in Asia, he had many enemies.

People regularly challenged him to street fights.

His philosophy is rooted in street fighting.
