North Korea

Do you guys follow what's going on over there? Know the background? This place is fucked up. Tuesday they shot artilery rounds at an island in the South. This comes a couple days after a weapons inspector wrote up his report about their nuclear weapons program. He said he was shocked by the soffistication of the plant they had built, especially with the short time they built it in, thinking maybe China could have had something to do with. It's also rumored that power is being transfered to Kim Jong Il's youngest son, Kim Jong Un. This place is fucked up man. They starve their people in order to build their military. They spend approximately 25% of their GDP on military while a good portion of the population is starving. Now I don't think they have the means to do much, they do have a huge military (Around 25% of the population is in the military), but they don't have close to enough fuel to even run it if a war was ever to break out. But they could definitely do some serious damage to the South. If the North does decide to try and take the South back, the US will have to get involved. This situation is no bueno. It's hard to believe the North has these people running a country. It's like giving a 5 year old kid a gun. It's insanity.

I have been following it for quite a while now. The US is already supporting SK. World War III is about to start. Russia also condemned NK's action against SK.

Anyone has a data sheet on North-Korea though?

I wonder if there's been a brother in North Korea since the Korean War?

I seriously doubt the PUA community has much going for it in Pyongyang. I hear the night-life there is kinda lame. So I'm guessing North Korean chicks must be easy as hell to swoop

Nah, I doubt it would be WWIII. The only alies North Korea has are China and Russia, but Russia even thinks what they did was dumb. I don't think China would want to go to war over it. North Korea doesn't have enough money to go to war. The only thing that would really happen I think is they could do some significant damage to South Korea, but they would imediately be fucked. The US has been a strong South Korea allie obviously since the Korean War, and even before. Ha, night-life in Pyongyang. You aren't even aloud to talk with a local. If you visit North Korea, you are accompanied by a tour guide the whole time. You even think anything bad about the government, you and your tour guide are looking at some serious slave labor for years, if not death. If you ever wanted to go to DPK, it would be extremely hard to get a passport if you are American.

Quite a few Russians go there, I've read quite a lot of trip reports, the most popular being this one. Use Google Translate if you want to read text.

What they say is that you're not allowed to walk around on your own, only with a government-appointed guide (which is likely to be a military officer). You're not allowed to interact with locals except the pre-approved ones. So I'd guess not the best country to score.

When I was in the Navy I spent a lot of time in Japan. The bases there focus quite a bit on handling NK. Those guys have a big military but it isn't shit. The US forces in Japan alone would wipe them out quickly.

I never understand why the news people put so much into any North Korean threat. It's just fear mongering.

Aloha!

North Korea is the most militarized country in the world and it has the 4th biggest army in the world. You're right, the US forces in Japan could take out DPRK alone, but they would be able to do some significant damage to South Korea. And if China wanted to get involved that would be bad news. But I doubt that would be likely. Another thing that would be horrible for South Korea would be if the DPRK went under and the Koreas had to reunite. It would be a mess trying to get DPRK back on its feet.

I have thought about going to the DPRK because people say it is like going back in time 500 years.

You have to take a train or fly from China - The US has no embassy there so if you get in trouble you are in deep shit. The food is disgusting - you must travel with a government tour guide - they will not let you walk around by yourself anywhere anytime. You get a subway ride during the day and thats it. You also have to leave flowers and bow before Kim Jong Il's father. No internet - they control pictures - everything.

There is this pit viper from Spain that runs the 'DPRK friendship association' that runs a few trips to the DPRK a year - watch the youtube movie they made about it. They smashed the ABC news reporters computer and screwed up his movie camera - look at the people in the DPRK - there is nothing else like it.

I guess if you wanted to goto the most isolated/ridiculous place on Earth - it would be North Korea.

Shelling that island is but one small move by the DPRK in a very complicated and long running chess match, with much more at stake for them than South Korea shelling into their maritime zone. They wouldn't have done it if they thought it would incite war. Their primary motivation is survival, I believe.

Possibly, or Kim Jong-Il knows his time is almost up and is getting gready. Today he basically said he was going to do something if he feels threatened by the US-South Korea army drills that are scheduled for Sunday close to Korean waters. Should be interesting. China also said today, they have north koreas back if they get attacked, but they don't have their backs if they attack someone else. Kim Jong Il is digging himself a whole. China's almost done with NK, they think Kim Jong-Il is a joke, they just won't come out and say it. China is being weak and showing they aren't resposible members of the international community for not speaking out against Kim Jong Il. The only reasons China wouldn't want North Korea to go to war is 1) because there would be mad people immigrating into the north of China from NK. 2) American soldiers would probably be occupying all the way up to the China border. and 3) It's one of the last comunist countries left in the world. But you're right, this is how NK works, as someone stated above, it's like a game of chess. They do something stupid to try and demand aid because they think the rest of the world is afraid of them or something. I think they are pushing it too far and everyone's about to become fed up, and when Kim Jung Il doesn't get what he wants he's gonna throw a fit. It should be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years. I think DPRK will crumble within the next 10 especially if Kim Jung Un doesn't have a lot of support. Someone else will take over power, then who knows what will happen from there.

Wow, what a weird country. That's pretty much what I was thinking it would be like to visit DPRK from what I've heard.

Dude, that was pretty much a report on his flight there. He mentioned a couple things in the discussion part, but nothing significant.

Maybe for locals only. As all trip reports state, you're not allowed to walk alone or communicate to locals (I believe it is illegal for locals to talk to you, although nobody so far confirmed that). No local is allowed in your hotel either (there seems to be only one hotel you can live in, which is foreigner-only). It is much more tough than USSR was.

Yeah, I think it would be near impossible to bang a North Korean girl, unless maybe she was a social elite and you met her outside of DPRK. That tea lady was kinda cute in the video though. She looked super lonely and super happy she had those Americans there to play a little pool and ping pong with her. If it was possible, I'm sure she would have banged that dude in a second.
