Hi guys,

I thought I have taken too much advantage of this site & ROK without giving back, so here's my take on what's happening in Helsinki. I will try to be 'to the point' and concise; if you have any questions or would like me to elaborate on any particular aspects, just ask.

Culture:
When sober
People usually keep to themselves and are very individualistic. They have an acute sense of personal space and upon arrival might seem upset all the time (which is not necessarily true, but it's just they don't put up a 'im happy'/neutral face that you'd see in so many other european cities when people walk around). This is especially hilarious when they hop on a bus and there are no pair of seats free and they need to sit next to someone they don't know. The HORROR in their faces is priceless. It is also quite fun that if you ask 'how are you', they will usually be honest in their answers as in: 'Not so good lately, this and that happened...'
If you ask them for help while walking around the city, they will stop, listen and try to assist you to the best of their capacity. They are very reliable people, just quite difficult to get to know. When they are drunk (2 times a week on average I would say for people in the 18-28 age bracket), all the above falls flat.
When drunk
Women approach men, there is no social stigma with that. If you are at least average looking and well groomed you are going to get hit on from a girl at a bar/club every now and then (not saying you will like her, but you might get hit on). Don't count on it, in my experience numbers' game trumps all.
IF a chick is into you, the hurdles she is going to put in your path are not going to be very difficult to get over. Look out for the classic question of 'Where do you live' early in the interaction. Don't ask me why, but talking with a few locals they mention that the thought process in their heads is that if you live very close they get turned on by thinking you could be banging in a few minutes time.

The 'competition'
Local guys are regularly clueless. They pile up in the bars getting shitfaced and when they are borderline comatose they approach any girl and ask 'do you wanna fuck' as an opener. I have heard it works, but I have never seen it happen.
The way it usually goes down is caveman game on the dance floor, chick sends obvious IOIs to the guy overtly smiling, getting closer, etc. they start grinding and it's done. That or the guy approaches and it works out pretty much as above or he gets blown off instantly. When the guy is happy with her they will lift her up full weight in the middle of the dancefloor (no kidding). They regularly start throwing glasses of beer to the floor around 2am and get encouraged by other people doing the same (with the hugely inflated price of alcohol, might as well burn euro bills in flames)

The venues
I will focus on those venues in the center near the Kamppi mall, where pretty much everything nightlife-related goes down. For dive bars, go to Kallio (Sörnainen metro station), although I particularly don't enjoy the people there -mostly super old folk/alcoholics into metal getting shitfaced-. Maybe a couple of bars are worth it (Pacifico comes to mind), but otherwise avoid as your main venue for the night.

HYBRID BAR/DISCOS
Aussie bar (3e)
Nice and cozy for the beginning of the night, but I haven't been there frequently because it's just not big enough to have enough sets to talk to and not burn through the venue in half an hour.
Expect a nice mix of locals and foreigners.

Aussie bar club (6e)
Usual age group: 18-22 (with older people 24-32 sooner in the evening that eventually leave).
A small bar section and a bigger dancefloor than the previous venue (it's a spinoff of that one). Music is rather commercial, but I've spent quite some time in it, I dig the bar section that is not too open and has a few twists and turns.

Le bonq (10e + 3 cloak room)
Usual age group: 18-24
I really like this place, it has 3 floors in the summer with the terrace and 2 the rest of the year. 1st floor has a respectable-sized dancefloor, 2nd is a bar with some sofas. Chicks are pretty hot here.

Bakers (3e)
Probably my favorite venue in the whole city... when the night is right. Sometimes the crowd is downright horrible (I advise going there on a Saturday, Fridays are usually packed with too old of a crowd.

Cuba (10-12e)
Really good towards the summer on Wednesdays -all the chicks from business studies go there because the entrance is free for students of their faculty-. Depending on the night the music can vary a lot from salsa to hip hop or commercial.

Milliklubi (3-8e depending on the night)
Not recommended if you are black, there were some investigations/reports of them being very racist when it comes to letting black people (see http://www.iltasanomat.fi/kotimaa/art-12...60139.html in Finnish).
This is Roosh's no.1 easiest place to get laid. It certainly is nice with several different areas, but the couple of times I've been there I didn't like the people so much. By all means, give it a try and decide for yourself

STRICTLY DISCOS:
Namu (6-12e)
During the summer it's filled with rich kids dressed like surfers from the 80s and during the year mostly packed with suited up crowd. Also has a nice set of tables for the rich crowd. Usually quite high-'class' people in there, everything there is unbelievably expensive.

Vatican (7e)
Depending on the night, you can find hot chicks here, but some nights it's a total bust. If you can't see it from the entrance, ask the bouncer or propose to check out the place and come back and pay the fee if it's good. Usually that attitude works and you save some money.

Tiger (3 to 10-15e depending on the time/day...)
For me it's the most expendable club in the whole city. Usually filled with a lot of attention-seekers and tables for vips. Funny thing is I haven't seen many hot girls there. Expect attitude.

Maxine
One floor underneath Tiger, haven't been, one time I checked out the queue and it seemed to be packed with rather older crowd (28+). Not completely sure it's a disco, could be a lounge, during the day its a restaurant.

Tivoli (8-12e)
The natural evolution from Tiger, also has tables, but chicks are generally hotter and the venue is much bigger than Tiger.

DOM
In front of Tivoli, never been.

Apollo (15e)
Avoid at all costs, mostly burnt out crowd 30+. Don't remember ever seeing more than one or two hot girls per night.

Disco vs Bar
I am a bar person myself. While I like to dance, dancefloor game here is pretty much: approach a girl and say 'hey'. If she says 'ei'/no you're pretty much done, if she gives an answer/say nothing and looks at you, ask her whatever stupid simple thing that comes to mind and start dancing with her. From then on, escalate, isolate and do your thing.
Optimal game for me: meet her by the bar, talk about something that ends up mentioning dancing, take her to the dancefloor and take it from there.

Alcohol
Drinking is an expensive vice up here. I don't drink because otherwise I would be broke and it just doesn't do it for me. I run game sober the whole night and have a bottle of something at home to invite a lucky one for an 'afterparty'. Then I take a couple of shots, but otherwise, it's just too pricey.

Overall
I would say it's a nice city, small enough you can pretty much walk around if you're changing venues or pulling back home if you live somewhere in the center. Girls are mostly OK, except that they are much more fatter than the rest of countries in Europe I have been to (UK notwithstanding). If she's wearing black it doesn't sound too promising, check for arm diameter just to be sure. If you're into blonds this is probably not a bad place to be.

Cheers,

Great report! I am planning a trip to Helsinki this summer. First, I will be stopping in Reykjavik, then flying to Helsinki for a few days. My question to you is, which summer month would be ideal? June, July, or August? From what I gathered, most locals flee the city for Midsummer holiday. But they usually return after the weekend. So any advice would be much appreciated!

July and August is the safest bet for pleasant weather.
About Midsummer holidays I recommend you to not visit any cities between the 19th and 22nd of June. All cities will be dead.

But if you can sneak in to a Midsummer party or maybe even get invited to one,I highly recommed you to go, if there are girls around will say.
At this very weekend Finnish girls are at their most romantical peak during the year so the chances are quite good for hooking up.

Chaos,

Yeah, ideally that would be amazing to get invited to a Midsummer party. But if that doesnt happen I am stuck in the city with nobody around. So I am leaning towards to July. Should I stay in the Kallio district or more towards the city center? I was looking at hotels near Molly Malones or Milliklubi. I prefer bars over clubs and rock/metal music. Appreciate the insight!

Bars in Kallio close at 1.30 am and people generally go to downtown after that, so get a place there instead. There are few clubs in downtown which play rock/metal, for example: PRKL, On the rocks, Bar Loose, Ale pub(has a "rock" side, but full of teenagers) and then some smaller bars which i haven't really been to.

Nice, I will definitely check out places downtown. What's the nightlife like on Wednesday and Thursday nights!? I know in Reykjavik, it was weekends only.

I am booking a trip this summer (1 week and in early June before Midsummer) and either going to go to Helsinki or Tallinn.

I know Tallinn is cheaper and has better quality but I heard Roosh's view that going for a short time is useless in Tallinn.

So am I better off for the 1 week in Helsinki hitting the bars and partying?

If you had to choose one of the two cities and looking to get a flag (from at least a 7 or above) which would be best option?

(American from NY, late 20's, italian descent, tall with dark hair, do well gaming in the US) Thanks

nice work OP - kiitos!!

I really liked my one day in Helsinki in winter and would like to go back. It's actually pretty nice in December all lit up for Christmas and the holidays and surprisingly warm - at least compared to Moscow.

Go easy this this kinda stuff for us older guys))

Any advice re 'day game' in malls or around town?

Gronholm has the details covered down to the tee. After the second night I started just stumbling into random places. Try the seafood at Baker's.

Helsinki is a quaint little city. One guy I met there said Finns who move to Helsinki get an attitude because they made it to the "big city." You can see most of the sights in 2 days.

1 week's plenty, especially if you're just partying all week. Majority of the clubs are around the Central Railway Station... hell most everything is around the Central Railway Station.

Milliklubi was a funny trollfest last summer: Team A is foreigners looking for easy flags (Spanish, English and Latvians at the time); team B is local social circles actively cockblocking them. A massive Finnish guy crashed into me right before closing, he looked like he wanted to fight. I asked him what's wrong; said he was horny and confused. I told him to talk to that girl next to him. He opened her caveman style, she elbowed him and left. He proclaimed, "You have helped me so much. I now know I can talk to a woman!" He bought me a shot and stumbled out after that girl. Recommend it for the stories, good luck with the easy sex.

Next night I talked to these two girl outside the McDonald's (woe to Helsinki...) about the place. The cute one's thoughts, in the most matter-of-fact-this-is-the-truth manner : "Ah yes, they did a scientific study on this place and concluded it's good for sex. We don't go there." ... But we ended up at all the clubs surrounding it.

I got a few day game hooks but with out-of-towner Finns who wanted to play a drawn out dating game. I met an athletic Russian girl near the harbor and went out on a date a day before I left. She was interested but lived far out and was only looking for something long term.

ONS is quite possible in Helsinki, and I don't know if it's a cultural thing or the hype RoK gave it, but a lot of girls wanted to play the dating game. Even at the clubs I would have a few sets ask if I was staying long term. When I said no, they turned cold and stormed off. When I said yes, they got excited and started dreaming of long term plans. Screen hard so you don't lose precious party time.

And whatever you do, don't forget this:

I really have to do a datasheet on Åbo, such a hidden gem. Helsingfors for me wasn't the best time, it was just a stop through on my way to Tallinn or St. Pete.

I got in touch with a German living in Helsinki and he told me the same thing. According to him, "many 24 year old girls have 2 kids or more, will check you out as fast as possible to see if you are bf and daddy material." Just an FYI.

I stayed in Helsinki only for a few days in summer. I used Gronholm's and Roosh's datasheet. Thanks gentlemen.

One striking thing in Helsinki is the absence of eye contact when walking on the streets during the day time. In most cities, as you walk, you will get eye contact from the passers-by. I got none in Helsinki during the day. ..Zero.. I was looking into the eyes of men and women, and nobody was looking back.... until that evening. ..As I was walking around Apollo Club, I suddenly felt that I am eye-fucked.. With great excitement and expectations I turned around... My eyes matched with some guys' sitting outside.... What the f.. .it was a gay bar..! Well, at least, I got a look, right?

I opened during days and nights in and outside the clubs. Asking them for the best clubs in town was an easy opener when I was outside. I get warm reception but I was wearing nice clothes and presentable (sorry to tout my own horn). I opened a two set once, chubby and cute girl set in Kamppi area at night. My plan was to direct my question mainly to the chubby girl and then switch to the cute girl. I opened them with my "where is the best night club in town" opener, the chubby girl was sooooo excited...she started telling me how they will be going to Namu soon. She was so into me that I forgot about making my move to the cute girl, and left as fast as possible.. even considered running as fast.. I think you may have an idea about my preferences regarding chubbies now.

Once I opened a three set in front of Ravintola Bakers. Two were at least 7, and one was almost 8 in my book. One of them was 1.80 m (5 ft 9in for our American friends [Image: smile.gif] ). Two minutes into the converstaion, she started touching my chest as she is talking. ....There are more stories, more approaches but I will not write the parts that have been "history" for me.

The morale of my story is do not hesitate to open the ladies during day or evening time. The club game is well covered in Gronholm's datasheet and helped me a lot. I can add Kaarle XII to his venue list but it is mainly for older crowd. The good thing about Kaarle XII is that it has two dance floors, and at least two bars for isolation.

I stayed for just a few days so please read my post accordingly. By the way, does anyone know whether Cuba re-opened now? When I was there, it was under renovation.

i was in helsinki for a couple of days in march. I might have slightly different experience, Helsinki got no love for the brown fellow.

Nightgame :
Milliklubi - I went on a wednesday and it was quite packed , with good ratio of girls. Actually more girls than guys. Being brown i got a lot of looks from girls and they seemed very curious. Just like the forum says, its a place where girls come to get picked up. However everytime i approach a girl who gave me some looks or smiles and talk to her, she would ignore or walk away. I didnt understand and it happened over and over again. Strange case : there were these two girls who were with a guy but constantly looking at me. Since i was getting blown off i wanted to test if these two were interested. So i went to the smoking area, and sat on the couch there. The two girls followed and one of them sat next to me. I started talking to them and flirting. The answers were mostly brief , consice and very bland. Anyway gave up. The same girl later on is making out with some random white dude. Then i was sitting on the couch in the main bar then start talking to a girl who walks past me. I pull her to the couch and we have a long conversation. She tells me she has a bf and i say yeah well me too. Then she starts talking , slight kino and she complies. I am happy. Then she says she is here with a friend who has to find someone tonight. We keep talking till the end of the night and i try hard but she doesnt pull. Both of them go home alone. Talk to girls on the streets as they walk home, they are just extremely drunk. One of them say Namo is a good place for wednesdays. Forgot to mention, i did have some problems with the bouncers while getting in.

Namo : So went on thursday night. Completely empty. Few groups of people but nothing significant. Wait for sometime and exit. Go to milli and its even more empty. Someone recommends Kaarle XII.

Kaarle XII : Thursday night, and its packed. Banging and it was like a weekend ! Girls really dressed up getting shit-drunk, guys all suited up. Thankfully in a nice jacket so dont feel out of place. But same story as before girls dont respond. Danced with a couple of girls but they were pulled away by their friends.

Daygame : Lot of girls in the central station and the main square. Talking to some random chicks for directions but nothing really happened.

2 days is short but still a little disappointing for me in helsinki. Maybe i was doing something wrong , maybe it was the wrong time or maybe they are not into indian guys.

Hostel or an hotel in kampi, are girls scared of hotel and its better to get an apartment? Are day receptive to day game? How are they on dates?

I'm asking if that time 14-17 of may is good and girls are going out or everyone will be in doing exams and hidden at home.

Two ONS from Tinder, one cute Finn and 1 fat russian. I think thatwas for a bout 3 nights out.
In Miliklubi club girls were horrible (one had missing teeth) and passing out and waiting for the paramedic at the entrance.

I also had a date with a cute finn.
