I don't see the upside to ever joining a MLM company. If you're joining for a product, aren't you better off just finding the same product cheap online and re-selling it on your own and doing your own sales and marketing? If you're joining for for the brand recognition, you're probably better buying into a franchise.

MLM seems like a way for people to pretend to be entrepreneurs with doing any of the work or taking much risk. I guess it's good for people who are very good at convincing other people to join shady schemes, but if you're that person why not start your own MLM and be the top of the pyramid.

In theory, MLM is suppose to be passive after you reach a certain level. So kicking back money upwards is offset by the many people you bring in below you.

It reality, it hardly ever works out that way unless you were the first one in or started the company. Most of the people you bring in will fall out. You need to keep bringing people in and coaching those you already brought in or it will fall apart.

You are better off doing your own thing.

I dated this one girl who's father was into these types of programs. The theory is great from a marketing standpoint but the reality is much different.

Also, you are walking a thin line between a legitimate MLM program and a pyramid scheme. The product has to be good enough people would use without the "business" aspect of the offering.

Not too many companies can pull it off and the people that worked hard in those could lose it all if the company makes a wrong move and is declared illegal.
