I believe one is right wing and the other is leftwing. Same idea, basically you get much better subsidies if your single but living together than a married couple.

the same goes for regular taxes, though it changes with children. From a tax and gov't handout standpoint it only makes sense to be married if you have kids, but unfortunately it makes even better sense to be a single parent with kids. The handout train goes.
