What are your nutrition/health essentials?

Supplements, diet and whatever else. Break down your daily routine of essentials that keep you going

For me at the moment:

Flaxseed oil: 2 tablespoons a day (with a meal). I used to take fish oil capsules but they always leave an unpleasant aftertaste that doesn't go away. So I've started using organic flaxseed oil as a replacement omega source.

Coconut oil: 2 tablespoons a day (with a meal). I've tried several brands of coconut oil by far the best one is the Biona Organic Raw Virgin Coconut Oil which tastes and smells great, also feels great to the touch so its perfect for applying to the hair and skin too.

Green tea: I use the Teapigs Mao Feng green tea brand which has great flavour and comes in these great "temple" style tea bags. Usually I add honey to it, I'd say I have 3-5 cups daily, sometimes more. Probably my favourite thing ever. After a few cups of green tea I always get this kind of pure mental clarity and energy, amazing, couldn't live without it.

Vitamin D3: I'm dark skinned and living in a cold climate with almost zero exposure to sunlight in the winter months. I have no idea why I didn't start taking this sooner. For many years I would get nonsensical depression in the winter or any grey periods of the year, I used to think it was because of real life issues but since I've started taking D3 I can wake up in the morning and feel normal like it was carefree summers day. Bold statement to make I know but give it a try. I'm on 1000IU a day and I don't really feel like I need to up the dosage.

Zinc: I need to get my hands on some optizinc, but for the time being I'm taking 25mg of zinc gluconate daily. You already know about the powers of zinc.

ACV: I haven't been able to find Bragg's in the UK and the other brands I've tried don't give me the same effects even though they contain the mother. The difference in Bragg's for me was that I could feel the affects almost instantaneously, like a wave of power coursing throughout my body and carrying me throughout the day. Will have to order it online.

Ginseng: Something that hasn't really been talked about much here. I take a high strength ginseng capsule which contains extracts of American, Korean, Red Chinese and Siberian ginseng. This is like cocaine to me but without the euphoria, that's why I've stopped taking it in the morning and save it for before I go out at night. I can't sit still after I've taken one of these, but maybe if you're a morning espresso drinker try this instead.

Lime: One lime squeezed into a glass of water in the morning and at night, pure citrus freshness say no more.

Avocados: Extremely filling and make you horny as fuck (coming second to zinc in this category). Great for breakfast just cut it open and eat with a spoon.

Nuts: I eat a combination of Brazil nuts, almonds, walnuts and pistachios which are good for many things especially heart health, standard shit.

Sunflower seeds: More therapeutic than anything, perfect to have on your desk while you are working or doing whatever. Cracking open the shell between your teeth and eating the elusive seed becomes addictive once you get the hang of it, great way to cut down on smoking because it keeps your hands occupied.

Chamomile tea: Before going to bed drinking a pot of chamomile tea is one of the most calming things you can do, by the end of it I'm in this peaceful, dreamy state and I can fall asleep like a child.

This is a UK pharmacy brand, I'm sure there's better quality ginseng out there in capsule form.

Edit: and this is the flaxseed oil I'm using http://www.viridian-nutrition.com/Shop/1...-P536.aspx

I would add a green drink for breakfast. Typically green drinks consist of powdered vegetables and mixed with water or juice or made into a smoothie. My mix includes SPIRULINA, CHLORELLA, wheat grass powder, green tea power, and sometimes i will buy a sack of maca powder, turmeric, or something else to vary the mix.

The pre packaged mixes are actually quite tasty and include some berry extracts and a bunch of other shit but a 30 day supply is at least $30 i think. I just buy all the separate ingredients in bulk and mix them together myself. I buy all this stuff at http://www.nuts.com that store is awesome and has the cheapest prices on all kinds of health food stuff

@Citlalli - Interesting to read the brands you're using, as I'm in Dublin and we have a lot of the same brands here
I find Viridian, Biona and Solgar all good
I've seen that Biona Coconut Oil but fuck me it's expensive, something like 12 or 13 euro (circa 10 pounds) so I haven't bought it, usually just get that 6 euro stuff in Tesco (also organic virgin, etc but probably not as good as Biona)
Braggs ACV is pretty common here
Can't say I've noticed that effect from the avocados, and I have one per day on average, have had some crazyily horny days, but am not sure exactly what has caused that, possibly the zinc, or ACV, hard to say, but either way it's not on consistent basis
Incidentally I use Zinc Picolinate, read on the forum that it's the most easily absorbed form of Zinc

Damn, so I just went and splashed out on this http://amazinggrass.com/product/146/Berr...vings.html

Really really good cocaine type high so far.

Amity, the biona coco oil is worth the money IMO, give it a try. And the aztecs used avocados as an aphrodisiac, here check it: http://eatsomethingsexy.com/wordpress/ap...s/avocado/

Bounce can you tell us your specific mix to buy (link if possible) and why you chose that over others?

For me, assuming a decent diet, the 3 big supplements for a healthy man are

Vitamin D3 (Unless getting enough from the sun, not common)

Zinc (Maybe not for couch potatoes, but if you fuck and exercise regularly you have deficiency for sure)
I started it thanks to this forum.

Fish oil (unless you get enough Omega 3 from diet, highly unlikely).

Everything extra can be nice, but I don't consider necessary. Some people take too much stuff.

I also do the water+lime thing in winter, just make sure to wash your teeth ASAP if you don't want to destroy your enamel with the acid.

Cacao Nibs - great for when you want some crunch in a food. Commercial chocolate, even dark chocolate, has a small fraction of the micronutrients that cacao nibs do.

Liver - Has an incredible number of vitamins. Get it from high quality pastured animals only. Shooting for 4-8 ounces a week.

Raw Garlic - Goes great with any sort of rich fatty dish. Eg, combine it with almonds. Just don't eat it on an empty stomach. A couple cloves a day.

Pastured Eggs - Has many more micronutrients than the industrial commercial varieties.

Ginger - When I remember to take it and it's supposed to be great for libido.

Raw Honey - not sure what the benefits are, but I lick some out occasionally.

Spices: Cinnamon, turmeric (paired with black pepper to increase bioavailability) and cayenne are supposed to be heavy hitters, although my usage of them is sporadic. Ideal is one teaspoon per day of each. Always keep some fresh chili peppers on hand and add at will.

I'm going to look into buying grass fed lamb fat and using large quantities of it in cooking. It tends to be cheap, considering it's ~3200 calories per pound.

Zinc, Brazil Nuts (one per day for Selenium), & Vitamin D

Fish Oil Capsules: 1250mg/cap X 4 throughout day. Depends on day. Noticeable effects.

Flaxseed meal: Add it in shakes.

Protein shakes: Regular Whey Protein. Used to take True Mass.

Macro Greens/Miracle Reds: Nutrient Rich Superfood Supplement:: Used to make kale shakes with milk and ginger, apple, pear, etc. Trying this because I'm lazy. Pretty much what I expected, not blown away by it, but I'm tired of getting fresh kale/fruits all the time.

Coconut Oil: Raw, cold pressed organic. Oil pulling and body applications.

EVOO

Vitamin B complex: In the morn, gives me some energy.

Raw Broccoli: I just like it. Boosts T-levels.

Whole Milk: I drink a lot of milk in cycles. Enjoy a glass of warm milk with honey and a stick of cinnamon before bed. Kind of concerning because I've read so many bad things about milk.

Water

Desert Essence Toothpaste Natural Tea Tree Oil With Baking Soda Mint: Barely sweet, makes regular toothpaste taste like pure sugar. I'll never go back. Fluoride-free.

Dr. Katz Therabreath Oral Rinse: THis stuff is so good. It's clear, mild, not sweet, minty and lasts. Very effective.

Onions, seeds , greens , berries and fruits on a whole actually, lots of water, at least an hour of physical exercise daily and milk.

The rewards I see from working is what made me an addict.
There's way more people that want it than people that have it.

- Many kinds of teas, such as Green, Oolong, White and Yerba-Mate (Chimarrão in Brazil)
- whey protein isolated, after training
- bcaa, for Taekwon-do classes
- banana
- quinoa
- linseed
- southern brazilian honey
- steamed vegetables (broccoli, pod, sweet potato etc)
- Coconut oil (just when I'm cooking chicken breasts or whatever. I don't have pure tablespoons)
- sometimes I also have a small kit of nuts that I buy in my hometown: They sell like 30 small bags to eat one daily. In each bag has: 1 brazil nut, 1 chestnut, 2 dried prune, 1 almond and 1 dried apricot

G, when I do take it, I'd either put it in a thick rich smoothie or use it in frying, eg with eggs. I read that it's most effective when combined 1:1 with black pepper. I don't take it regularly, only because I haven't worked it into a routine.

Edit: You can also mix it in with a mashed starch like plantain, potato or sweet potato. Mix in with some coconut oil for some richness and nutrient absorption. Turmeric has more bark than bite - it smells a lot stronger than it tastes. Add some combination of cinnamon, cayenne, salt (esp. Pink salt), vanilla extract, lime juice to taste. When you have these ingredients on hand, it's ridiculously easy.

Careful handling it, it's also a dye and can stain.

I'm currently addicted to dark chocolate covered goji berries, they are tasty as hell, and goji is supposed to be one of the world's best superfoods, bursting with vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants. The only problem is they are fucking expensive as hell, and I haven't been able to find a cheaper brand at the grocery stores, a smallish pre-packaged bag is $10. The same brand that makes them, also has some kind of "golden" berry from Peru that is also supposed to be a very potent superfood, haven't tried them yet, because they are also super taxed, but I want to try them soon, anyone know what they are all about, and whether they taste good?

http://www.extremehealthusa.com/golden_berries.aspx

I take so many supplements, many of which you've guys already posted, that I won't even bother, unless inquiring minds would really like to know.

Let's try to keep this thread about new stuff, anything you guys are taking that hasn't been mentioned?

Glass Bowls

Everyday, when I leave my house, I take some food with me. Usually, it's oatmeal, fruit, soup, eggs, rice, beans, stew, etc. These bowls are essential. Make sure it has a strong lid.

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcREzyQZTlfWyGqciD87MWA...GPytbw9B3G]

Glass Bottles

I also carry one or two of these in my car and my laptop bag. For tea and water.

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR_FEgnQyauplZgDvUdVtD...kDS7o1IcYg].

Vapor Pen

Because smoking is one of the worst things you can do for your health. I prefer to "steam" or vaporize my herb.

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT8EESdwvphDc1XiPD-fiN...W1a9JibilA]

Salad Spinner

I hate "wet" lettuce or greens. After I rinse them, I like to dry them.

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQi_y3dih3zbkPnntf9xBm..._cJiyxAujg]

Fish

Fresh and wild caught.

Wild Rice

The more wild the better.

Peppers

Chili peppers, bell peppers, hot peppers, etc. All colors and variety.

Hell yea man, the salad spinner is awesome to have. Eat salad every night with dinner and always use that spinner. Quick way to dry off lettuce without trying to sponge it with a paper towel or cloth.
