Thailand Data

Hi all. I looked over some Thai data and wanted to ask a few niche questions for this winter season.

What I look like: 30 year old white male. 6 foot. model face. muscular/fit. clothes style: preppy/cali beach.

Current plan: from Mid November - March enjoy sun, fun and interesting things. enjoy girls. and find where european girls hang out and party too, to hook up with them when there too.

questions:
-what should I budget? (I don't drink, smoke - but I would like to get massages, comfortable place to live etc...)
-how to travel 'safe'? (anything I should prepare for or watch out for)
-what islands/places are the best for hooking up with scandinavian or european girls?
-what are prices for a nice place to sleep in good areas?
-how do I find these places to rent?
-should I travel with laptop or is that a bad idea?

I'm planning on flying into Bangkok and going from there. What do you suggest? All ideas welcome. Thanks.

I was spending about $40 a night for my hotel that I booked through Agoda. They were clean and usually fairly nice places. I think I was getting massages for about $10 to $15 usd for one hour. Eating was super cheap. In Bkk eat at the Mall and you can pick up girls while eating.

-how to travel 'safe'? (anything I should prepare for or watch out for)

The usual getting overcharged by taxis especially in the tourist areas.

-what islands/places are the best for hooking up with scandinavian or european girls?

Koh Phi Phi in my opinion. A bunch of drunk sluts running around all night.

-what are prices for a nice place to sleep in good areas?

$40usd was plenty nice enough for me.

-how do I find these places to rent?

Agoda.com

-should I travel with laptop or is that a bad idea?

I traveled with my laptop. Just keep it close and always be aware.

-do all islands have internet to do work at?

1. Flying is the best option IMO, bus accidents aren't uncommon and there were something like 6 train derailings on the Bangkok - Chiang Mai route a few months ago. Air Asia, Nok Air or Bangkok Air are all worth checking out. Bangkok Air is full service but often has prices as good as if not lower than the other two which are budget airlines (but still decent IME).

2. Skyscanner is fine but sometimes I find that these types of search engines miss specials so I always end up checking the airline site directly anyway.

3. From what I gather it's currently 14 days for land crossing and 30 days for arrival by plane. It also depends what country you're from. With all costs and hassles I'd prefer to get a double entry tourist visa in my own country which gives 60 days each that I can extend at an immigration office for 1900 baht (about 60 bucks). If you're studying you can also apply for the ED visa which you can extend for a year.

4. Paying for extensions at immigration offices are fairly straightfoward but in Bangkok or Chiang Mai can be time consuming (give yourself 3 hours just in case). In Phuket at the Phuket Town office things were always quick (within 20 minutes for me). I've never done a land crossing, I always just took the opportunity to fly out and visit Ho Chi Minh City for a week or two.

5. Just turn up to a club as they are everywhere. Don't sign up for any contracts, just start off paying by the class until you find a club that suits you.

6. I use AIS prepaid. I don't really know the exact costs. Make sure you don't get these silly prepaids that make you top-up monthly at a 7/11 whether or not you are out of credit or not. Those are just annoying.

7. I haven't been to all the islands so can't say. Phuket, Koh Chang, Koh phangan and Samui all had decent internet but of course it depends on where you stay.

1. Wear condoms.
2. If in the cities a natural citronella spray seems to do the trick but in the jungles use DEET. Dengue Virus sucks.
3. Sometimes you just get sick but avoid those places that sell seafood that looks like it has been sitting out in the sun all day.
4. Bottled water.
5. No guarantees but everyone I know who has had food related sickness has only had it for 24 hours or so.
6. Ride it out. Eat plain food. Stay close to your toilet.

It's just that dengue goes fucking crazy during wet season because of all the mosquitoes but you can still get it from nov-mar. Just wear repellent, trust me you do not want to get dengue, the worst case I knew of was a girl with hemorrhagic dengue bleeding from the eyes, ears, nose... You could be lucky and not get it for years or you could be there for 2 weeks just get one bite and get it. Use repellent.
