Don't try to catch a falling knife.

If someone has those types of goals/beliefs you simply fade into the background. Slowly fade away like a Michael Jordan classic.

Agreed. I'm not vested in any of his decisions because I already have my own issues & goals to deal with. Just an observation my peers and I had.

By 25ish you should have a B-line path, no compromises to what you want in life. People will think you're crazy, they are right. Your interests will never match another person perfectly so find your interests early in life by trying everything possible.

After university or some formal schooling, entry level work experience, networking outside of your immediate social circles, and hopefully some traveling, it's also important get a good feel for what they dislike in their mid-late 20's so that they can make the next big step in their lives. That's why I'm a big advocate of not going to graduate school right after an undergrad (especially an MBA) because that person is going to have less of a foundation to build off of.

My main discretionary spending vices are musical/recording/photography gear, but I've reached a point where my pile 'o gear is approaching hoarding levels and there's nothing more I really "need" to creative at this point. Love travel, just did a half month in Spain with my girlfriend in September, so I'm happy to be "back home" for a while. Mostly pouring money into my new retirement crib improvements!

1) Bills- Student loans, cell phone, etc.

2) Eating out or buying special groceries (i.e. Good cuts of beef, an entire fish freshly caught, certain cheeses, etc.)

3) Books & other self-improvement items

4) Health- Chiropractor, supplements, foam roller, lacrosse ball and soon massages

I've been taking a break from bud and alcohol so I've been saving a lot of money recently. I used to spend like around $50-$75 a week but that extra money has been put away to buy some new clothing when I put on some muscle.

I try to stay away from all unnecessary expenses and instead look at how much they are an investment in myself.

This means I don't have a TV, games console, car, etc because I don't see them as adding much long-term value to my life.

On the other hand I spend lavishly on investments in my body (healthy food, supplements, etc) and mind (books, courses and experiences).

I think there exists a kind of paradox on the forum: on the one hand what you say in the above (enjoying 20s), and at the other hand the desire to not be a slave in the 30s (so gotta work in 20s)

It's a complicated paradox. Or does it represent opinions that are too different?

I've spent around 10-11k on travel in the last 2 years. I can justify that way more than buying a new car or any waste like that. Months of travel > stupid new vehicle and 4 year vehicle payment any day.

Not to mention that the car is depreciating every day and a hazard (car wreck).

I mentioned buying extra holiday leave earlier...

Well - I would buy even more leave from work. But where I work - you are supposed to have a reason (like a family event etc) as to why you want to buy unpaid holiday leave. So - I have trouble telling how big a deal it is with management when I come asking for more leave.

In some jobs - it is more relaxed - and in those situations I would probably buy the maximum amount of extra leave each year.

Still - I get plenty of leave as it is. And my working week is pretty short. So can't complain too much!

When I look at my history.. I spend a lot of money on entertainment.

I have almost no living expenses since its all currently covered. Aka I have a lot of money that goes toward eating out and going out.

I love trying new foods and going to restaurants in the area.
I spend a lot of money I beer an liquor.but I buy from stores instead of bars. I like to try a new drink almost every time I buy.
At bars I pretty much stick to yuengling and pbr. In not out to get drunk..I can game fine with just a buzz..and I'm not about paying 500 percent markup in alcohol
The rest of my purchases are from Amazon

I've bought weights, protein, games..everything there

Amazon prime is a godsend.

This topic has been done to death, but this seems like a false dichotomy. I know 20s/30s are prime time for chasing snatch, but I've never understood the massive discounting of one's 40s/50s/60s (and nowadays 70s/80s as well, what with current health knowledge and medical technologies).

Sure, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow. Life is short and unpredictable, you gotta live in the moment, I get it. But if you're in the "live your 20s like a pauper so you can enjoy your 30s like a prince" camp, you really ought to be extending that way past your 30s.

If you dedicate your 20s to stacking paper (say, 80% of free time/money/energy goes towards $$$, with the other 20% going towards women, which is about what I'm doing), there's really no reason you couldn't set yourself up for life. Whether it's running your own business, starting a few and selling them, or investing in a solid portfolio, if you're going to sacrifice such a large chunk of such an important decade, you really ought to make it last the rest of your life.

The question shouldn't be, "Is it worth sacrificing your 20s to enjoy your 30s?" it's "Is it worth sacrificing your 20s to set yourself up for life?"

Definitely worth it. I asked myself this question 2 years ago. I sacrificed a LOT of time when I was 24, and by the time I was 25 I figured out how to make internet money. I "sacrificed" that year when I was 24 (which was hardly even a sacrifice really), and I've been enjoying my 20's pretty nicely ever since.

Don't be lazy and stop making excuses. Get money, even if you have to choke a few bitches in order to get it... or just die wondering what could have happened.

Just blew some money today on a new pistol. Springfield Armory XD .45. I don't spend money on anything other than gas and food so I thought I'd treat myself to this. It will stay with me the rest of my life so I think its worth the investment.
