Which Watch Gets It Wet?

This thread deserves a bump.

I just recently started to add to my watch collection. Here are the newest additions;

Invicta Pro Diver:

Nice watch, I've had it for years but have just recently started wearing it. I was wearing a Timex Ironman previously but I wanted something with a bit more style. My experience wearing it has been good so far, I got many complements in just the first week, and the weight feels nice on the wrist. It keeps time well and wearing it between 4-6 hours a day has kept it with excess power to run.

Stuhrling Grand Regatta

Its coming tomorrow, excited to see it! With a $25 Christmas gift card I got it for about $40. MSRP on Amazon is around $895.

I am looking forward to investing in some more expensive watches soon. I have my eye on either Breitling or Tag Heuer. Along with stocks and precious metals I think that watches are also a great investment, not to mention you can enjoy them(and even pass them through generations) for years!

^^
That Invicta Pro Diver looks like model 8926.

If you're interested, you can do a Google search and find a few forums where they like to modify that specific model. There's one forum that has a dedicated thread for Invicta 8926 mods, and there's some awesome mods those guys do. Anything from changing the bezel to filing down the crown guards, etc.

Interesting stuff, I recommend checking it out, even if it's just to see some of the pics of modded watches.

That's the one! I'll definitely look into that. Thanks for the recommend!

Edit: Interesting video series here;

I owned two of that exact invicta over the years and they both stopped working within a year or a little more.

Unless something has changed, Invicta's are legendary for working okay for a year or so then stopping/breaking.

how long have you had yours? Ever had any mechanical issues?

Had it for over 5 years now. However, I have been wearing it on and off. I preferred my G-shock and Timex over the years for simplicity sake. I will post here if it breaks or stops functioning.

Anyone know of a good leather watch with square face and not round face? There used to be quite a lot but I cant find one now.

I had a classier version of this in black, but they no longer make it and mine stopped working after 4 years.

Cartier Tank Solo if you have the budget. I have a vintage one in gold with black strap. My friend hates it as he is obsessed with watches, and mine gets more compliments than any of his big round sports looking watches.

I'm in love with the Rolex submariner. If I had cash to burn that'll be the first watch I get.

David took his men with him and went out and killed two hundred Philistines and brought back their foreskins. They counted out the full number to the king so that David might become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage. 1 Samuel 18:27

I had one as well, it was working fine until the kids and I were at the waterpark. The crown wasn't twisted down all the way, and I'd been in the water for a while before noticing that the time was off.. Damn..

Ended up Google searching for how to fix a water logged watch, and stumbled across the watch forums. Took it apart and left the mechanism in front of the heat register for a few days. Got it working for a while, and left the mechanism out to tinker with some of the tips I found on that forum. Took a Dremel and filed down the logo on the side of the case and the clasp, pulled the logo off the dial, and removed the date magnifier (low heat and a sharp Exacto knife). Looked like a Rolex, save for the lack of logos.

But I must have done something to the guts of it when I reinstalled it, it hasn't worked since (unless I shake the shit out of it to get the automatics to work, then it only works for a few seconds).

The Invicta 8926 (like the one in Ivanis' post) at first glance passes for the Submariner. A closer look, and one can see that it's an Invicta. That said, there's a forum (Google 'Invicta 8926 mods') that guys share pics of their modded watches. And they give each other all sorts of tips and tricks to do it the easiest way.

If you have the desire, you can make the Invicta look exactly like a Submariner.

Two silver diving watches? I don't see the point in owning multiple watches that look so much alike.

If you're into wearing watches I think it's important to have a diverse collection so you can match with any outfit/occasion. A silver watch, a black watch, a gold watch, and a leather bound (maybe even two leather bound).

I currently have this silver Fossil quartz chronograph:

This black Relic self-winding:

And this digital waterproof Timex for outdoors:

Next on my list is a leatherbound with a very minimalist and classic looking analog face, and perhaps a gold watch with a rectangular face.

For day to day stuff, I've got a couple of stainless Fossil watches in rotation. I bought them both on eBay, one gets a little more roughed up than the other.

I wear something real close to this when I suit up:

It's a replica watch I picked up from a garage sale a couple of years ago for $5. The seller told me he knew it wasn't a real Tag Heuer when he bought it. And a Google search shows MSRP (for the replica) at $199.

I originally picked it up as a watch to beat up on, but afterwards I rethought that because the watch is practically flawless. I've seen a few questionable Tags on eBay, and this garage sale watch actually looks like a legitimate Tag.

The only 'flaw' or 'tell' is the links. On a real Tag, each link is actually two links, like this:
Whereas each replica link, even though it has a line to make it appear as if it's two separate pieces, is actually one sealed piece.

And proper pronunciation of Tag Heuer is important. It's pronounced "Tog Hoyer", I used to think it was "Tag Hower" [Image: embarrassed.gif] :
