Buy all your fruits/veggies from the Haitians pushing carts down the street. They come by around the same time every day so set your clock. Buy your coconuts in bulk and should save around 5p per unit. Get a machete from a hardware and learn to use it.

All other staples* should come from barrio colmados. They sell chicken and other stuff too. I swear their cheese is 'guvmint' and is damn good. They are the cheapest, and eventually you'll find one that doesn't try to kill the goose. Everything else can come from the grocery store, but Supermarcado National is U.S. prices. Don't skimp on the jugs of yogurt. It'll keep your gut flora in check.

If new in country, as soon as you find a legit chick, take her grocery shopping and she'll show you the cheapest way to do it. One of my girls went to law school at the private college, and had it down to a percentage between cooking at home and eating out.

Both there and in Kuwait having the girl shop for you (cheaper) and cooking at home will save ~33%. You're getting and extra plate of food and slightly bigger portions. The girl is really paying for herself to eat. It works out on the math side.

Regarding Coconuts, I have become obsessed recently with the young ones, and my methods to get into them have been using saws, serrated knives and hammers and chisels....

But, maybe a machete would work better? I would be afraid to accidentally cut off a finger, an arm or some other important extension.

The young coconuts that I get in California look like the below picture. Do they look the same in the DR?

Buy at the same market where colmados shop, bypass the middle man. There is a large street market in my city, - I swear I couldn't spend 300 pesos last time I went there, simply couldn't carry more of fruits and vegs.

Those young coconuts are trimmed with a machine as Americans only buy things that are visually appeasing and uniform. Here's what you get in the DR:

They'll cut all your nuts, only leaving a small section of meat at the top you can poke through with a kitchen knife. However, learning to handle a machete needs to be on every mans list. It takes years of training to master striking at the 30 degree angle. The Gurkhas understand it. I get it. Being able take off an appendage with one strike is good to know. Or open a coconut at least.

Fun fact- Machetes are classified as agricultural tools and not weapons by the U.S. Guv. That give some leeway when carrying one in your vehicle. Just FYI.

Machete works great, Haitians hack coconuts with it one or two times to make a hole and that's it. It looks more like this:

Apparently, from the news story of last summer, Taxi drivers in Thailand like to carry machetes to chop up westerners who do NOT pay their $1 fare.

Groceries, goods (clothes, alcohol, electronics, etc), gas ($6/gallon) etc cost the same or more.

In the barrio they eat a lot of rice, beans, bananas, etc which is cheap in the US also.

Poor folks here will go into a restaurant and order beans and rice with meat sauce on it, but no meat.

They get by here the way super poor folks in the us get by. But yes, some things are cheaper or free, such as housing and utilities. I think buses are subsidized by the government also. But I know that many people spend a good percentage of their earnings on bus fare.

Next time you see these poor folks, ask how many lottery tickets they bought this week, and try to convince them that if they didn't piss the money away, maybe they could afford to buy meat. Dominicans are masters of thriving on $3/day and they always have enough left over to buy booze and lottery tickets.

Prices-wise, a lot of things that are produced locally cost a fraction of the US prices, e.g. fresh tomatoes: $0.30/lb, fresh mangoes: 10 for a dollar or less, when in season, avocados: 4 for a dollar when in season, papayas: 3-4 for a buck, limes: 10 for a dollar etc. Prices tend to vary depending on season, e.g. limes and avocados are more expensive right now. I can call to order a half of grilled chicken and have it delivered, all for 3 dollars. That's including a tip to the driver, he's happy with a quarter. Also, don't discount the fact that majority of folks have extended family in the campo where everything just grows for free: mangos, platanos, bananas, coffee, yuca, limes, avocados, oranges and 50 other things I am still learning the names for. Mothers ship their kids to their campo family when the times are tough. People there can go for years without buying anything at all, aside from clothes which they can get anything for $1-2 on local markets as well. Smarter ones grow stuff for resale. Free house, water and electricity in many cases.

Also, about min wage: employee benefits are additional 40-50% that is on top of $200/mo. Employers have to provide med insurance, they pay double salary in December, they pay pension premiums, they have to pay so called liquidation upon employee termination, which can be many monthly salaries etc etc. No income tax at that level. I am not saying this is some great life but its how things are in DR and way more people die of alcohol overdose and dumb traffic accidents than of hunger, if any at all. On the other hand, real professionals, like doctors, make $10-20K/mo (USD) monthly salaries here, - after 10 years of study. They have a choice.

Doctors make 10-20k/ month in the DR? Seems a bit high as an average. I only say that because a Cuban friend of mine who practices moved there and is definately a lot closer to 1/10th those numbers. You'd certainly know better than me though.

I get that food and stuff is really cheap there but sometimes it's also good to be considerate. Even if you can live on small amounts and be very happy...a lot of people do! You generally have desires to see and do things that you can't afford.

The lottery ticket thing rings true in Canada. Whenever I see someone buying a lotto ticket I cringe a bit.

20nation (or anyone), can you please explain to me the best way to get naked pics from a girl. It seems like it always backfires on me when I ask for that sort of thing. Exactly how do you ask? My friend says ask if she has any sexier pics. That hasn't worked that well for me either. Do you send them naked pics first?

That's actually an article I'm planning to write on swoop the world. One of the main reasons I had a low flake rate was because when a girl sends nude photos she's investing.

First thing u need to understand - every dude is horny and almost every dude will ask for naked pictures. Luckily, almost every dude asks too early.
You have to build some type of relationship with her online, then you hint at how amazing that relationship will be, then you drop the bomb while your buying temperature is high. There is honestly a lot to how I do it. I will let you know when I write the article.
The article was brilliant man I was inspired to make the trip. Can you drop an example script to give me an idea of how you got them comfortable with sending nudes?

Also I was wondering, I know you said you never used alcohol on the dates but would it be a bad idea?

My other thing is how do I pick which cites to stay at, I am seeing that the most condensed talent is in Puerto Plata, Santiago, and Santo Domingo on Dominican Cupid. I like PP because I found an ocean front place for $30 on airbnb. If I'm not mistaken Santiago is only an hour away so I was thinking I could set up shop in PP and that it would not be hard for myself and the girls to commute.

Yes, real salaries, up to $30K/mo on the high end for surgeons etc. Not talking about nurses, tech staff, med students while in residency etc - those guys make peanuts relatively speaking.

Thanks. I'm actually going to be writing an article about good strategies to get the nude pic pretty soon.

Alcohol does make it a bit easier to get laid for obvious reasons. But, I feel like sex is better when there is no alcohol involved. That's the main reason I don't use it too often. When you are having sex 2 to 3 times a day, you want to keep the sex as great as possible.

You will run into a very high percentage of pros in puerto plata. In my opinion you should choose between santiago and santo domingo. Santo domingo is best for online game and santiago seems better for day and night game. Also it depends on what types of girls you like because you will run into darker girls more in Santo Domingo.

Dude are you kidding me? Real professionals in DR are not pulling that kind of money. The president of DR earns around half a million pesos which is 12 thousand dollars a month. The average doctor here may earn 800 bucks per month, doctors with more experience and that have different jobs in different clinics may earn around 1500 bucks. Surgeons are earning around 30k a month in DR? You are clearly talking US salaries.

If they are earning so much why is the hospital services so affordable for everybody here? How are they making all these money? Where is all these money coming from? Somebody must be paying really expensive prices for these services, who is paying for these services? Even the private clinics in DR do not cost that much.

Who is been giving you these information?

Come on man.

I can ask 100 doctors in DR to sign up on this forum and not a single one will agree with you, I am actually sitting next to one right now ahah.

Dr is a funny country. I am not saying that every doctor makes this, I am saying that there are doctors making this, I know some of personally. They have studied for years in DR and internationally. The more specialized you are, the more they can make. Not talking about public hospitals, I am talking about private hospitals like HOMS in Santiago, for instance. You need to spend about 30K/year just to maintain an office there.

Again, not all doctors. Most public hospitals are staffed by med students in residence who make about $1k/mo.

As for the president and politicos in DR? The way they pull cash, they don't need salaries. But trust me, even just their salaries are pretty massive. From an old (2008) thread on dr1.com : In the Dominican Senate there are 32 senators who each collect RD$2,000,000 pesos per month or approximately US$60,000 (yes, that means that every one of them earns more than POTUS). That's US$60,000 per month (out of the people’s coffers) while the average Dominican family takes home about US$240.

As I recall, president of central bank in DR makes several times more than the head of Fed Bank USA. Dig around on this stuff and you will be amazed.

The super rich and the super poor live side by side here in the DR.

My understanding is that jobs here come with health insurance. So there is quite a bit of money being spent by the insurance companies/employers to the doctors. I know that when i went to try to get a checkup from a doctor they wanted $50.00 us. When I was in Mexico it was like $2 to get a basic consultation. DR is one of those places where someone's making some damn money... and folks are never completely honest about their money situation. I think only the illegal haitians truly struggle.
