The Drooling Beast from The Fountainhead

There's been plenty of back and forth about Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead on these forums. I don't want to rehash the merits or shortcomings of Objectivism or Ethical Selfishness, but I do want to highlight this quote.

I think about this quote often. To me, it is the best representation of modern feminism and the progressives. It sums up the groupthink mentality perfectly. It's the reason why we ship our heroes off to war and put our wise men in retirement homes or leave them on the streets to talk to themselves. This quote perfectly captures the rhetoric and madness and blood-boiling stupidity of The Collective.

It's a quote spoken by the character Steven Mallory, a sculptor in the book who is put upon by the ignorance of the masses. This is the quote:

Quote:Quote:

"Listen, what's the most horrible experience you can imagine? To me—it's being left, unarmed, in a sealed cell with a drooling beast of prey or a maniac who's had some disease that's eaten his brain out. You'd have nothing then but your voice—your voice and your thought. You'd scream to that creature why it should not touch you, you'd have the most eloquent words, the unanswerable words, you'd become the vessel of the absolute truth. And you'd see living eyes watching you and you'd know that the thing can't hear you, that it can't be reached, not reached, not in any way, yet it's breathing and moving there before you with a purpose of its own. That's horror. Well, that's what's hanging over the world, prowling somewhere through mankind, that same thing, something closed, mindless, utterly wanton, but something with an aim and a cunning of its own."

When I hear the rhetoric from fatties, from manginas, white knights, feminists, authority figures, the average person on the street, Democrats, Republicans, all of them, I think of that quote.

It helps to understand your enemy.

"...so I gave her an STD, and she STILL wanted to bang me."

You know that most (as in nearly 100%) of Ayn Rand haters haven't read her books?

I challenge any man to read Atlas Shrugged and then show how the themes contained therein do not apply 100% to today's worl.

Well really, that quote just reminds me of one thing: Zombie Apocalypse.

And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to it.
