say you get a quick number from a girl when she's drunk. she likes you in the moment but you know that it's not gonna be a solid number. when you text a day or two later with a standard "hey [girl] its [guy], how are you", you are received with "who are you?", as expected.
have you guys ever turned this around? how?
or is it just a lost cause?

Think of the most memorable/funny topic of conversation you had that night (if there was one?), and spit back a brief response that best depicts that topic.
i.e. Is this Beta
If she wasn't blind drunk, this will jog her memory. The ball is now in her court if she would like to continue the conversation (and if successful will induce a playful quip in response, setting the tone for future texts, giving you a good chance to lock down a date), and you don't come of as Beta by describing your looks, what shirt you were wearing etc.
You also transport her mind back to where the interaction was playful/fun and where her vagine may or may not have been tingling.

Personally, I would never send a pic to answer that question. Immediately puts you on the back foot. She's likely to be with her friends when she sends that, and unless your incredibly attractive, you'll get blown off, probably heckled as well by her friends.
What I normally do is two things - and it completely depends on the girl. The truth is it's usually only the low quality girls or major clobbers who get drunk off their tits that doesn't remember the morning after. So I'd usually say something like
"Do you not remember what you done yesterday?! So you don't remember hitting the bouncer?"
She will always reply confused. Follow up with telling her it was a joke and then NOW you have a conversation to work with.
The second way is if she is a bit higher quality- normally more intelligent than the first type. In which case I would message something like "oh, so you really took that many guys numbers that you forgot who I am?"

Exactly, which from that, you can lead on with "I was only joking...". At this point I don't care if I offend as it's an intro message, she is more likely to reply to a controversial message than a standard one. If she IS hot then she probably did get approached by a few guys anyway, in which case she will be on the defensive as she knows she took/gave away her number more than she should have, making her want to be more exclusive. Easy way in.
