Dressing well in the european winter

I'm going to Gothenburg and London, i live in Rio where winter does not exist. I will have to buy something once i arrive. What do you people suggest? I like pea coats, are they ok? What kind of material?

Only actual winter clothing i have is a navy blue long coat my father brought from northern Spain, it looks and fit nice imo but as i said it is long, goes in the knee. Is it ok to wear those long ones?

Is it ok to wear only a t-shirt or maybe polo shirt inside the clubs(i guess they have heaters)? I'm looking more into the alternative clubs, not the mainstream ones but may go to both.

Head to Zara once you hit the UK, you should be alright there. The coat above is ugly, a pea coat in wool would be much better.

Massimo Dutti is a great shop in London, they are a higher end Zara.

+1 for Zara
Levis sells some nice, warm coats for pretty cheap.
Remember, wet wool smells like crap.
