OBAMACARE: Long/Short Healthcare Stocks? Money making E-commerce ideas?

A serious breaking news just hit the wires today about Obamacare which will impact healthcare stocks..
choice quote "....Department of Health and Human Services ruled yesterday that hospitals will be able to subsidize the premiums of health insurance plans purchased on Obamacare exchanges. WHAT'S NEW: The Department of Health and Human Services yesterday revealed that it does not consider insurance sold on Obamacare exchanges to be federal healthcare programs, AHA News reported. As a result, hospitals or health systems will be able to subsidize the premiums of health insurance bought on the exchanges, the website quoted the department as saying...."

This is bullish for healthcare stocks.

In fact, all my healthcare stocks are currently flying! [Image: banana.gif][Image: banana.gif][Image: banana.gif]

My CYH...the most sluggish of my position that i 2nd entry at $42.00 seems to have found renewed vigour... partly because of the news, partly because of the earning conference call at 11am EST today.

THEN THIS UPDATE a couple of days ago.....:

.... The stock CYH has given me a 2nd entry at $42.00...but it is being a bit sluggish...we will see how it goes. ....

Now?

It smacked $46 completely returning 100% on my $3 per share risk entry at $42.00. I have moved the stock to breakeven and set 1st price target to $49.00... hopefully, it gets there... once again, the chart tells the tale:

Become a hacker, hack the incredibly weak obamacare infrastructure and website, sell peoples identities, make millions.

Only kidding of course. Good thinking though, there has to be an in or way to make money surrounding what's going to be such a huge part of our economy.

So anyway back on topic.. here are some opportunities:

1. Part of Obamacare included big funding to practitioners for EMR (electronic medical records). So you have physicians with a deadline to spend money upgrading their internal records systems.

2. Payment for services will start shifting from task-based to outcome-based i.e. doctor gets paid $X to solve your problem (pneumonia) instead of $A for this test, $B for this test, etc. There will be a need for IT systems to help physician groups with this (maybe to manage costs).

3. (Not related to Obamacare, but still a need). Many doctor's offices handling billing in-house, but they are located in areas with high labor costs. Offer to outsource this, but near-shore it (like to a cheaper part of the same state) so that lots of mail-based operations (sending out bills, receiving checks, etc) will still run just as fast as before as you're nearby anyway. Many states offer incentives to open up a business in the economically-disadvantaged part of the state.

Personally #3 is my favorite.

I agree with this. I know people who are working in startups in this space and have been mulling diving into this opportunity myself.

I imaigne the red tape and licensing and stuff would be a nightmare. I have a business which is registered Federally as well as with the State. Just getting a copy of my license to hang in my business which is a requierement took me a year of waiting and were talking about them literally clicking print and sending it to me, the license was already issued I just needed a physical copy. Just goes to show you how working with/for the government works.

Also, as soon as a shutdown or something happens good luck getting paid. I had an Uncle who owned a company which made medical supplies or sold medical supplies. He went under because the state never paid him in a timely manner for what they owed him.

You are correct that the main healthcare data base will become a target for identity theft, and accordingly, there are likely a lot of ways to make money off of that. Additionally, there are a lot of ways to make money off of the management and security of affiliated health-related data bases, as well.

Frequently, I am very skeptical about the ways to make money in connection with govt contracts though b/c frequently, the insiders figure out ways to make money as it is going up or as it is going down and to seal contracts while regular people are scrambling around and fighting for crumbs.

Nonetheless, if us regular investors can figure out ways to think ahead and to get our resources in place ahead of time, then we may be able to take advantage and/or to get some of those bread crumbs that we are fighting for while the richest among us are running away with a large part of the pie. I guess there are going to be various cracks here and there in which some of us regular investors can get in some of our hooks into the profit potential.

In any event, we can see that there are going to be increases in various business opportunities surrounding data management and the protection of data.. and even the shredding of data to the extent the data is placed on paper. Even 10 years ago, a lot of these data protection and security measures were NOT in place, and it seems that more and more, we are moving towards systems to protect and safeguard data. Even though this is NOT a new investment, it seems to have a lot more potential - in the USA and then the fall out that frequently will occur in other countries that model USA systems (even though the USA probably should be modelling the health care of other countries - but that is another story of should versus what it actually happening).

OUTHUSTLE:

Certainly, recently, these have been trying and potentially transformative times, in which we have been living - especially concerning conceptions of govt. Nonetheless, generally people seek govt contracts b/c they are reliable and can be very lucrative. There are some political attempts to change those kinds of impressions and securities; however, I would NOT predict the downfall and/or internal destruction of the US Govt anytime soon.

There are factions trying to sabotage the good faith and credit of the USA - and probably they are trying to create a crisis in which they are able to engage in getting more concessions about austerity and cutting of benefits - however, in spite of these various dynamics to create instability there are too many stakeholders that have too much to lose if things go in the unstable direction that you are implying.

In that regard, you certainly need to hedge any investments towards singular sources, yet I would NOT get overly cautious and lose opportunities b/c of such cautions.

OBAMACARE: Long/Short Healthcare Stocks? Money making E-commerce ideas?

In the interest of full disclosure:

LPNT and HCA are my two remaining healthcare stocks holding.

The rest(THC, and CYH,) are already liquidated at breakeven. 1/2 sold for profit taking(as previously stated on this thread), the other 1/2 liquidated at breakeven. I am completely out of THC and CYH. This is why i like O'Neal trade management approach: Cut your losses quickly, protect your gains, and let your profit run. Rinse and repeat until you get a runaway winner. I am not an acolyte of dollar-cost-averaging -- for me, a trade either works or it doesnt. Cut the losers/laggards and move on to the next one.

Anyways, the good thing is that my LPNT and HCA are still holding strong(chart attached below). This is critical given the savage beating that Obamacare has received in the past couple of months. It shows endurance on the part of these two stocks. stock market darwinism. The survival of the fittest. the last remaining two: LPNT and HCA. When obamacare turns around and gather steam(there is no repealing this healthcare bill, it is here to stay )...these two stocks should shoot up.

On the other front, my other projects are going nicely. Obviously, that is why i spend less and less time on this forum. As the project matures, I obviously cannot discuss the details on the public forum(keeping my identity a secret is important). Wish everybody a good year ending, and may 2014 be filled with better things.

Anyways, attached below are the charts of LPNT and HCA.
