I came up with this while checking my phone (go figure).
Walking down the street with my wing a few months ago, way down the street we see a couple cute looking girls walking towards us. I pretend not to notice, and start checking my phone while I'm walking. When they are a couple feet in front of us, I look up and act surprised and say "wow you guys are really pretty". They both giggled and it didn't end up going anywhere, but it slowed them down enough to make stopping them easy.
I've tried it a couple times since and it works in slowing them down almost to a stop. Don't catch their eye until right before you walk up on them, the sincerity of your surprise about how pretty they are is key. Doesn't seem to work when the streets are crowded, but I think it still could if your timing was right.
I haven't gotten anything to follow through, but that's just because I'm green. Let me know if anyone has success with it.
