Competing with fame when working the room

This is a tough scene. Maybe some of you can chime in and put together a plan of attack.
Here's the situation: You're a fan of a band. Local band or some big time famous band. You may even be friends with the guys in the band.
You're hanging out the bar or club where the band is playing that night, drinking your beer and checking out the female talent. The problem is no matter how sharp you're dressed or good you look the females are all fixated on the guys in the band. You're automatically "out-Alpha'd".
You can open girls easy enough. They're friendly and outgoing. They may even be known sluts. But you can't pull no matter what because of the fame in venue.
If you run into these same girls on a different night or a regular bar it's business as usual.
Being a musician myself(but not in a touring band) I fell into this trap many times growing up. The females are basically groupies. The males at the show are groupies as well in the non-gay sense. The male groupie may be an alpha but is still perceived as a beta in this scenario.
I found myself pulling away from scenes like this just out of frustration.
How have you pulled in situations like this?

Good question.
Having been around celebs a lot, I've seen these scenarios play out.
The girls are almost transfixed on the famous cats and while they may entertain you, it's simply to get closer to the famous dudes.
What has worked for me before is doing this:
-Find an angle that you have an edge on over the famous guy(s). Exploit it.
There's a quote someone told me one time: "Every man is in at least 1 way greater than you".
I don't care if a guy is famous or not, in some way each and every one of us on this forum has an edge in one aspect.
Example:
Couple weekends ago I was hosting at a hot club in Hollywood. One of Kim Kardashian's exes was in the VIP (famous sports star), tall, good looking, millionaire and famous. Hard to compete with right? On top of that, he has his 'yes men' crew with him. Adding another layer was another cat was there, a very famous major porn star. He's extremely in shape, well known, is very relevant and the whole damn world knows he's hung like a donkey. I'm doing my thing, dressed to kill, BUT I'm not famous, nor am I balling out. What did I have: Game + Social Value at that venue + ability to befriend and devalue the famous guys at the same time.
This might sound evil but it is what it is: There is a way to talk shit about someone to girls WITHOUT being obvious. The NBA player has all of those things going for him, however he's known for being PLAYED like a fiddle by Kim K. I had 4 girls with me, one who looked to be a sure thing and her 3 friends. I had met them that night. As the night progressed, they were going into the transfixed zone that girls do around famous men. I whispered in one of the girl's ear this:
"Gee, hope he got some of that wedding money that Kim K tricked him on".
She laughed and agreed. Now since I was being cool with the cat to the GROUP, then this comment isn't seen as being insecure or undermining him to the girl. However it's a subtle seed dropped in her brain that he's a chump; which he is.
She told her friends and they laughed as well. I used that distraction to create momentum and offer a distraction: An afterparty at a mansion in the Hollywood Hills. Grabbed one of their hands and vacated the venue.
Here's where it gets even better: the porn star cat had latched onto my group of girls. Now he was cool, but didn't seem to have any game to the point the girls seemed bored with him. Easy win for me. I actually had him pay for the 2 limos we took to the mansion party + the tickets to get in. I threw it out there and he jumped on it.
Provider Role he stepped into and he didn't know how to do it with SWAG which could have helped his cause with the club sluts.
We hit the mansion party, he struck out with my girls and left, I fucked the hottest one in a bathroom and that was that.
Game + A dash of evil genius can override fame. Another thing: if there's 20 girls in a room and ONE famous guy, there's no way in hell he's fucking all of them that night. Girls LIVE for validation. When it appears that he has picked one or two for his girls for the night, their hamsters will go into overdrive grabbing at the next 'best thing', you, in order to appease their egos.
What happened to the NBA'er? While waiting for our limos I saw him leave the club with one buddy and not one single girl with them.
I should drop a major data sheet on Gaming In Fame Circles. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Nice reply McQueen. What I've seen and done myself plenty of times is play the "I'm friends with the band" angle. Which sounds like it may be a good way to go because they get excited but like you said it's just a way for them to get to the in crowd. It's rough waters out there.

McQueen is king.
Attraction is transferable. I let guys butter up girls and then swoop in all the time.
This is the last part of what McQueen was saying.
McQueen, could it be more advantageous to make friends with the famous guy instead of focusing on the girls in this situation?

@Soup:
What I've noticed, especially in LA, is that famous people have everyone on their nuts, so when you're chill and cool with them, but DON'T go out of your way to be friends with them, they actually respond to that better.
Also, in a group setting if your focus is on the celebrity then you're feeding the monster that everyone else is feeding, thus making you a Beta Orbiter. Better to be chill and not a lap dog.
Most celebrities in real life are rarely impressive to be honest so it's not hard.

There is no need to compete. The way to go is to cooperate. Throw him a chick, and hell bring you up.
Lets recap some facts- sports stars have little "active game". Rich people are the same.
I was at Drais and some rich Arab was at his table w/a bunch of orbiter dudes. Me, sharply dressed w/2 fresh black sluts that I picked up on the smoking patio. He was popping really expensive bottles of champagne+had a bunch of random bottles of alcohol. I would guess at least 7-8 bottles at his table for 6 guys.
It was obvious he was the "main" guy. I grabbed 1 chick, and complimented him on some attribute of his and introduced them. Then I sat down w/my other chick and started drinking for free.
Or just be cool and treat a celeb like anybody else. Take his "fame" away from him. Insinuate that fame-worshippers are shallow, lame, fake people
Another time, I was walking through Supper Club w/some rando. And she stops and starts ohh-ing and ahh-ing. I ask her "WTF is wrong w/you?" This frame is crucial to dealing w/star struck girls and stars w/a superiority complex. She calmed down shortly after, but still went over and gave this dude a kiss on the check. I started cracking up at her for being "another silly celeb-worshipper". He was some dude from "the real world".
Then she came back to me, and we continued on w/the night.
Game is truly the great equalizer. Body language+ verbal skills can't be faked.
WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

Some gold being presented here, although I will say Kim K's ex DOES NOT HAVE GAME... (I'm shocked the pornstar was a dud, I've always wanted to have a MALE pornstar in my circle as I always felt it could lead to some crazy experiences unfolding)
I find "famous" people to have little to no impact at all, it's sad to figure out that it's just a "regular" social network that just happens to be in the mainstream spotlight often. You aspect these dudes to be "cool" dudes who are social, NOPE!!! Most of them are introverted/shy, can't influence the energy in the room "unless they're one of the few good performers". Also the ones who are good, quality isn't what you'd expect from a guy who is supposedly "famous". (One of my girls at the time was banging a top dj, their relationship was to the point that she was getting him to roll with her to a HIP HOP venue. (Which of course they start playing his music as he shows up) Not to downplay him for "quality" as she's a cutie. I will say though he's got that social/fun vibe. (I've seen him interact with a hottie) I have respect for him as a person and the music he plays.
P.S...IMO, rappers and sports players have had the LEAST game

Famous people are like spoilt princess 9-10's. They don't need to present any value whatsoever. They can just rest on their laurels while people "clock on" to their fame-o-meter.
"I bought Kim K's ex a beer!"
They don't need good social skills or even be particularly pleasant people, everything will just fall before them no matter what they do.

You have to understand that athletes have gotten attention from a young age, when they first started showing promise. They've always been fawned over, and people have always wanted to be in their orbit. They never had to develop game or particularly great social skills. Some may be naturally charismatic, but most didn't really learn game.
The best approach to being around famous people is to be cool and polite, but not to ride the dick. At some point, the famous go through that whole "does this person like me for me, or do they like me because I'm famous/what do they want from me?" thing. They may embrace YOU for not appearing too impressed by being in their orbit. Talk to them, but don't get into the "can I take a picture with you?" thing.
"The best kind of pride is that which compels a man to do his best when no one is watching."
