I hate how people think its either "eat meat, or eat veggies" why not both? It's common for me to eat as much spinach as I do beef.

I am just as suspicious of carnivore diet proponents as I am of vegans.

These extreme macro diets are akin to putting your house on the market and then investing 100% of the money into bitcoin or something instead of doing a healthy spread that involves knowing what you need in your own life. Going all in on one macro is foolishness and I won't be convinced otherwise.

At the end of the day, a lot of these diet science magician people are just biased bros who go into research roles to prove their biases. They add some extra letters to the end of their name and try to tell you that their way is the best way. Just look at Dom D'augustino (sp?) and his ridiculous claims about diabetes and ketosis. A few guys with diabetes have taken him to task for his supposed "diabetes" fix using ketosis.

Vegans are no better. All my vegan friends look like garbage, I'm sorry. I've never met a vegan in person who didn't look like some scrawny hipster queer. I know that humans aren't supposed to jacked as fuck, but does that mean I have to consign myself to a lifetime of looking like I survived a concentration camp? I'd rather die looking good than live looking like a shadow of man.

Veganism is pretty much just straight up unnatural and no society has ever survived just eating plant products with 0 animal products. It is just magical diet quackery disguised as a noble pursuit.."You don't want to hurt animals, do you?"

Vegan clowns are always talking about how processed meat is bad while neglecting to mention that all their fucking diet is processed garbage. What the fuck is vegan beef? it's a composite of chemicals designed to (poorly) mimic the taste the beef. How's that healthier than just eating a steak? [Image: icon_lol.gif]

Ultimately, why not just eat both? How about you eat what you like, do your bloodwork three to four times a year and make your dietary decisions based on what your body is telling you instead of some random "doctor" who just wants to sell you exogenous ketones or some "all-natural" vegan protein powder?

That's the other thing. So many of these guys call themselves doctors but are promoting dietary insanity. How's that protecting and serving public health?

I guarantee that if you eat what you want for 3 months and look at the blood test results and then make informed decisions you'll be healthier than any ideologically possessed, dietary extremist.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

Lot of dietary/vegan related threads seem to be popping up recently, I like it.

I’ve made some comments about veganism in another thread. Sometime hopefully this year I’ll do bloodwork and try it out for a couple of months. My gf has been vegan for ~5 years, looks great, beautiful smooth skin, dudes hit on her on the reg. She has done the research and has it down to a science, takes a few shops but mostly eats a natural plant based diet and very rarely eats any processed stuff. I would post pics of some of the stuff she’s made me, but I’m wary of meta data in the images. Her vegan Mac and cheese is next level. We made it for my parents once and they were pretty impressed.

I think the argument that “it’s not natural” is dumb. Cars aren’t natural. Electricity isn’t natural. A lot of our modern life isn’t natural. But I fucking love meat. I mostly eat fish and turkey, I’ll have a good steak on occasion. Kicking dairy was easy (I do I miss cheese though) but cutting out meat will be a challenge.

Whole Foods has some great vegan sausage made out of seitan (wheat gluten, a common meat substitute without the hormonal effects of soy) and spices, would definitely recommend trying it. Made some hot dogs with them and didn’t feel like total ass afterwards

Rather amusing how much controversy has been raging through the Vegan 'blogosphere' due to the number of Vegan notables having to resort to eating animal products to ensure normal health & normal nutrition.

Basically this. Eat meat, but get a large portion of your carbs from vegetables. Fruits should be eaten with moderation, over eating fruits can be almost as bad as any high sugar diet. The average non-steroid user needs to consume a large amount of vegetables to even be able to fully utilize the high amount of protien he should be eating, your body needs large amounts of nutrients like potassium to digest protien.

That's missing the point, brother.

We don't consume cars. Our bodies aren't designed to digest plastic, metal, and glass. Please eat some cars and get back to me. [Image: icon_lol.gif]

Furthermore, when it comes to food, I'll take beef, pork or chicken over some random wheat-gluten meat glue nonsense. The latter is akin to eating paste but it's supposedly healthy because it doesn't have animal proteins in it. Yeah....I don't buy that.

My bone to pick isn't with you, though.

Vegans always resort to this sophistry when it comes to justifying a diet that has never actually existed in history. I'm all for vegetarianism even though I'd never do it myself.

I don't see how resorting to a diet where you NEED fake nonsense to get all your dietary protein and fat in is somehow more healthy than just eating the things our ancestors ate and making intelligent choices based on your bloodwork.

The former is easy. Just follow some "doctor" who has it all figured out for you (0 thinking) the latter requires that you sit down, pay attention to what goes into your body and then make informed decisions. I can see why most people don't want to do that.

As much as I avoid the religious threads, I can totally see how veganism is some sort of "satanic reversal" of common sense.

I think our ancestors would laugh us out of the universe if we suggested something as silly as not eating animal products.

If the vegan diet is so superior, why do vegans concoct so many meat substitutes? If you like Mac n cheese, why not just eat Mac and cheese? If your bean sprout diet provided you with adequate nutrition, you wouldn’t be consuming so many meat substitutes.

How can you think that vegan sausage made in a science lab is somehow better for you than the regular stuff? [/u]

Colin T Campbell of the famous vegan bible The China Study admits towards end of the book he eats a meal of meat once a week for "filling"....

After 500 pages of my highlighting and post it notes.....

I do this anyway. It works for me. I'm from a Mediterranean background and supposedly a diet of mostly vegetables and fruits suits me best, biologically speaking (there has been research done on "geographical eating" or whatever it's called).

But I don't believe in making needless rules for myself. Life already comes with enough of limitations and laws. If I'm in the mood for a burger or turkey sandwich, I'll have that.

Nothing really overly marketable / sexy / trendy about a simple - fresh, whole foods diet of good quality meats, eggs, vegetables, fruits & nuts.

DOBA, If I weren't mixed as fuck I'd probably do the same. For me, I figure my ancestors ate across the food spectrum given the DNA spread I have.

As CC just said, they don't market smart eating because it's not marketable.

Citation? The word "filling" appears twice in the book:

Page 203:
"As you can see, you've just introduced a bundle of nutrients into your body. In addition to this extremely complex mix, when you take a bite of that ravioli with its tomato sauce and squash filling, you get thousands and thousands of additional chemicals, all connected in different ways in each different food -- truly a biochemical bonanza."

Page 335:
"In this scheme, sunshine and parathyroid hormone work together in a marvelously coordinated way to keep this system running smoothly, both in filling our vitamin D tank and in helping to produce from moment to moment the exact amount of 1,25 D that we need. When it comes to getting sufficient sunshine or vitamin D in food, taking light from the sun makes far more sense."

Well, a guy did eat a plane...

Jokes, but yeah I feel you man. The thing is the meat we eat these days isn't the same as the meat in the past. Factory farming, corn-fed, hormone/chemical pumped animals, etc. is not natural and and has documented ill effects on humans. The fake meat has way less shit in it. But we aren't in complete disagreement. Quality meat (for example Joe Rogan mentioned recently that the only meat he eats is wild elk that he hunts and kills himself) has some health benefits and is probably good for you. For the everyday guy even driving farther out of his way to purchase more expensive quality meat might be a little tricky.

If they perfect fake meat or get it damn close without all the shit I mentioned I'd probably switch over, or at least limit my meat intake.

-because meat tastes good.
-I do on occasions. But my gf is vegan and thus she makes vegan mac and cheese.
-meat tastes good and a lot folks raised on meat want something to replace it so it doesn't feel like quitting it cold turkey, I suppose
-it might be, if it's made from beans or wheat with natural ingredients and depending on the quality of meat you're comparing it to

If meat tastes good, why would you not eat it?

I thought vegans were big into natural, unprocessed foods? Yet so many vegan food products, especially the meat substitutes are the epitome of processed food.

People go vegan for many reasons that have nothing to do with avoiding processed foods. "Ethical vegans" avoid meat because they don't believe it is right to kill animals for food. "Environmental vegans" avoid meat because they don't believe industrial animal farming is environmentally sustainable. Etc.

"It is not ethical to kill animals for food"

There is a thing called the food chain, that we sit at the top of.

As far as I'm concerned, if you want to renounce your position as predator, you become prey, faggot (directed at vegans in general, not JayR or any vegans here.)

I would like a sociologist to conduct a study of mormons and vegans going door to door preaching and see who gets the door slammed in their face the most.

Why do the heathen rage and the people imagine a vain thing? Psalm 2:1 KJV
