Street Fighter II

When I was about 10 years old, I had a sleepover with my friend and he told me about this video game that he had played. I remember the conversation as if it was yesterday, and I was [Image: mindblown2.png]

Then I played the thing. It was one of the rare instances in my life when my expectations lined up with the reality.

I can only imagine how rich the makers of this game became. I don't know why this game made such an impact. Here was a machine that would literally put street thugs from harlem on the same level with nerds from China town. That was the scene in the arcades around NYC in the early 90s.

People used to get into real fights over this game. That's how big a deal it was.

I don't know why it was so amazing- I think the animation, and the options for fighting moves and all the weird characters like Dalsym who could stretch his arms across the screen were part of it. It was a great escape for a kid at the time.

Other games couldn't come close to it - Mortal Combat may have looked more photorealistic, but it felt fake and the movements were off.

And, when they came out with the version for super nintendo, I could pause the screen when Chun Li was doing that spinning round kick and jerk off to it!

I'd bet that a lot of the guys on here who in their late twenties or early thirties feel the same way about this game

Here's a salut to Street Fighter II

Street Fighter was awesome though. Can't remember which one but in the later ones you could change Ryu into lighting and fire type where his attacks would have an added lighting/fire effect. I would kill fools with him...Akuma was a beast too.

Perhaps Chun Li is why I think big hips and a small waist is the sexiest shit ever.

I was in the arcade the day it was delivered. Star Land in Hanover, MA. Me and my nerd buddies. Look, they put in a new machine. Wonder if it's any good.

Holy god damn mother of fuck, what a discovery. And as big as it became here, kids from Asia would tell tales of whole arcades of Street Fighter II.

Chun Li's panties. There isn't a man alive, within a certain age group, who hasn't jerked it raw to that jewel of the Orient. Chun Li's panties are at least as significant to the history of masturbation as Princess Leia's brass bikini. Yes!

I remember this one time me and my older brother were sitting on the ground playing this game on the super Nintendo. I kept doing something that pissed him off. He threw the controller down and pushed me over and ruthlessly, started punching me repeatedly in my arm over and over until I started crying. I think he accused cheating.

I was always partial to Mortal Kombat for some reason, prolly cause I had a game gear. Remember Neo Geo? What was the fighter game for that?

The first I've played was SF 4, but I can definitely see how it was a great game that took over the world. I'm not that excited by Chun Li, but I guess that's because I was too old and too desensitized to wanking material when I first saw her [Image: biggrin.gif]

Nowadays I prefer playing Adon. I hate characters that stand in the corner and just spam ranged attacks, so he comes right in to punish them for turtling.

I too was a Mortal Kombat kid. I think because it was so gruesome, it was like a taboo thing you didn't want your parents to see.

I remember how this established unwritten laws and codes of conduct in the arcade about mercy rounds and all of this other insanity that led to fights. It used to be this weird status thing where asian kids would have girls hanging around them as they beat challenger after challenger on the game. Until they were shamed by my 6 year old brother who had to get up on his toes to see the screen.

I remember back when I was a little kid in the 90s I lived in this town with less then 15,000 people. There was no mall so I ended up being at Wal-Mart a lot. My mom would leave me in the front while she did the shopping (which was pretty unsafe now that I think about it) and back in the day Wal-Mart would have pinpall machiens and arcade machines in the front. I remember seeing Mortal Kombat 2, Final Fight, Samurai Shodown, Street Fighter as well as some more obscure games like World Heroes -I used to be fascinating by the guy who had the ability to make his hand really large and use it to hit people with it for some reason.

Kinda sad that arcades are kind of a dead thing these days.

The first one had a lot of the parts in place but was not very popular. The second one had everything in place and as a whole as been emulated by every fighting game afterwards. It made fighting games popular and a legitimate genre of game. The games that predated it were called Final Fight or the beat em up. Streets of Rage was also quite popular in that style. Final Fight character have shown up in Street Fighter games as Guy, Cody, Haggar, Poison, Hugo, Rolento and the samurai football player guy. Sodom?

Mortal Kombat 3 was my favorite due to the more advanced combo system.

If I recall the Final Fight guys showed up mostly in the Street Fighter Alpha games.

I wasn't allowed to play Streets of Rage! Haha, my Mum thought it was too violent. I found ways though my friend, I found ways.

edit- So I thought this thread was pretty gay and on the wrong "game" forum, but in my search to torment you little pervs for admitting to jerking off to a 25 y.o. video game, I stumbled across this:

Neo Geo? You probably mean King of Fighters. They also had Samurai Showdown which was my shit back in the '90's.

I seriously regret selling my full sized arcade machine, i converted it from a Xmen vs Street Fighter to a MAME box running a jamma cable hack so it had 1000 MAME roms loaded including all of the street fighters from 2 up to 3 ( about 11 versions including the strange japanese ones)....

wtf was a thinking arghhhhh

i loved that game and still do, in fact i have a custom built flight deck for my xbox360 to play it properly online so all is not lost [Image: wink.gif]
