The horror of domestic abuse

Very short video. Just 2 minutes long.

And... Look how they depict the father

The horror of domestic abuse

Domestic abuse is pretty awful.

I think it's important to separate the chagrin that we have for the bullshit (accused often guilty until proven innocent, sex bias of prosecutions, etc.) from the bad that does happen (actual domestic abuse, for one).

My mom was married to an abusive alcoholic for twenty-five years, after bouncing from abusive relationship to abusive relationship before that. Never mind that she had already divorced my generally good guy dad after six - leaving my little brother, a toddler, still recovering from an open-heart operation. Never mind that she had all the resources in the world to get out of there and consistently refused. And so on. It still sucks that he hit her, despite the measure of her personal responsibility in staying in the issue. And certainly, there are many victims who 'asked for it' (whatever that means to you) less than my mom did.

We eulogize the Allies kicking Nazi ass in WW2, but you can remember this without forgetting that lots of perfectly innocent Germans got swept up in the war and got caught up in the collateral damage too.

The horror of domestic abuse

I thought this was a good video. It didn't glorify saving domestic abuse victims by intervening or the woman doing some sort of 'new age country song' thing and grabbing a gun and shooting the guys balls off.

It just painted the picture that kids overlay kid stuff on shitty situations and get affected by parents behavior. Even if Dad was slapping his wife around because he caught her s'ing the d of her personal trainer it still messes up the kids.

The horror of domestic abuse

My parents used to fight and yell very violently at each other for more than 15 years and used to see it...they were arranged married.

They would hit each other, yell in a very stressful way and were very aggressive.

I have severe stress disorder which causes my flight or fright response to kick it at small things and have bouts of severe anxiety.

Seeing Psychologist for 2 months and referred to psychiatrist.
