Time to go to Latvia

Latvian man shortage leaves women lost for love - BBC

I also suspect that this isn't the only Eastern European country where this is the case, either...

Time to go to Latvia

Ha. Funny.

I just posted this today: Riga, Latvia: Get it while it’s Good http://www.thegmanifesto.com/2010/10/rig...-good.html

I think I am going to do a whole new thread on Riga in a little bit. I have been organizing my thoughts, and I have ideas for about 10 or 12 posts.

The Data Sheets on this one will be heavy duty, the good, the bad and the beautiful.

Not trying to take away from the discussion, but the article is mainly saying that it's hard for women OVER 30 to find a man. Men still outnumber women in the under 30 crowd, especially in the sports bars.

This is really no different than in the Ukraine and Russia. Women either find a man to marry by the age of 30, or their chances reduce significantly. Not so different than in the U.S. and rest of the world.
What makes it even worse for women in these countries is that men starting dying a lot earlier due to suicide from depression, health problems from alcoholism, workplace accidents, and car accidents (drunk driving).

So what do I really take away from the article?

Educated American men over 50 (with decent looks) should have no problem finding a 30 year old wife in Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, and really S.A.

Again, "Time is not the enemy of men, but of women"

From the Article:

"The first time the gender imbalance appears is between 30 and 40," Baiba explains.

Among the under-30s, there are almost 9,000 more men than women. But between the ages of 30-39, there are almost 3,000 more women than men.

One country that I can highly recommend for good ratios is Belarus. I haven't been, but I've banged several Belarusian girls and they've all complained how there just aren't any good men back home. Not sure if it's a real ratio problem, but what they all said is that most man have no money, no style, no ambition, and they drink a lot! So just by having a good job (abroad) and some $$$, being dressed nice, not cursing and not getting drunk every day, you are beating out 95% of men there.

One girl I met this summer was on vacation to the beach in Bulgaria and her sister was marrying a Bulgarian dude - when I asked how Mom and Dad felt about this she said they were really happy for her! I met the new couple too, and the younger sis was easily a 9, 20 years old, and the dude she was going to marry was an allright kid but nothing special, just some 25-yr old guy out of college, not rich, not especially handsome, and I don't think he had great game either. And he was able to get this great-looking happily-smiling girl who did not let go of his arm all night. They met the previous year while she was on vacation. That's how desperate those girls are.

I bet Belarus has got a skinhead nazi problem the way that Ukraine and Russia do.

I have an Asian friend who is going there after some time in Chiang Mai and I'll let you know what his report is like.

All of the Baltics are experiencing brain drain, with college-educated women leaving at a higher rate than men. When you can make more as a bartender in London than as an accountant in your home town, it makes no sense to stay. It's actually a big problem: the people that can't make the jump are the ones who don't speak another language well enough to get a job in another country -- ie, the less-educated people. That leaves behind the alcoholics, slackers, and idiots to support the country through their tax contributions. It's not a promising picture.

its like that all over eastern europe. 10 years ago each country had their own identity and culture but the EU is quickly becoming a melting pot among EU members w/the Muslims coming in from the East and South. for the men its a brain drain because they go where the money and jobs are and for the women its a 'hot chick' drain because they can use their looks to marry into wealth or provide a more lucrative income. you can take the hottest chick out of some poor village and it doesnt matter if she's dumber then dirt if you drop her in london she'll be in high society pretty quickly (after the dental work or course) if she chooses to go that route.

Do these Belarusian and Bulgarian girls speak any English?

Latvia sounds really good. What's the best Baltic city out of Riga, Vilnius, Kaunas, Tartu, and Tallinn in your opinions for an Asian-American guy?

most of the under 35 crowd speaks English in Bulgaria. While there is some local music and TV shows alot of the entertainment worldwide is US based. The movies are in English w/ Bulgarian subtitles, most of the bars play American music, there is even a bar in Bulgaria called "Jim Beam"

In Bulgaria they do, but it's in the EU, like Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia - so young people travel, study, work abroad, then they go back, they mingle, etc. Most young people do speak some English, a lot of them fluent. But in Belarus it's different - these guys there live under Lukashenko, the last communist dictator in Europe, it's hard for them to travel, they need visas for everywhere in the EU, and most of the girls I've met hardly speak any English. Even those that I've met in the US on summer work-travel programs spoke very poorly (even though it's a requirement to speak English to go on such a program - but for a job cleaning hotel rooms or flipping burgers I guess the employers don't really require it).
I do speak Russian, however, and all Belarussians speak that.
