Ben Affleck is the new Batman

I'm really not sure how I feel about this.

Ben Affleck to play Batman in "Man of Steel" sequel

Quote:Quote:

Warner Bros. announced Thursday that the 41-year-old actor-director will star as a new incarnation of the Dark Knight in a film bringing Batman and Superman together.

The studio said Affleck will star opposite 30-year-old Henry Cavill, who will reprise his role as Superman from "Man of Steel." The movie will also feature "Man of Steel" stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

The big-screen DC Comics superhero mash-up was first revealed by director Zack Snyder at last month's Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Snyder, who will direct the sequel written by "Man of Steel" screenwriter David S. Goyer, said in a statement that Affleck will provide an "interesting counter-balance" to Cavill's Clark Kent.

"(Affleck) has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne," said Snyder. "I can't wait to work with him."

Production on the as-yet-untitled film is expected to begin in 2014 for release July 17, 2015.

It won't be Affleck's first time in superhero garb. He played a blind Marvel crime fighter in 2003's "Daredevil" and portrayed 1950s Superman actor George Reeves in 2006's "Hollywoodland."

Affleck's "Argo," which he starred in and directed, won the Academy Award for best picture earlier this year.

Christian Bale most recently played Batman in director Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy.

I like Affleck ok, but really like Christian Bale as Batman.

Personally, I don't see Affleck besting Bale, but who knows?

I know some people don't like Bale and Nolan's Batman but I like that Batman the most. Affleck is a decent director and an okay actor but he can't takeover for Bale. Fuck it.

Yeah, I love all the Nolan Batman movies. Man, Affleck sucked in Daredevil. He just doesn't work as a superhero. Why couldn't Bale just do one more? Damn it.

I like Ben, especially as a director with The Town, BUT, he is no Batman. Wow.

Bale kicked eternal ass in that role, not to mention he's a legit badass. Met him and his model wife at a screening years ago; cool as fuck but intense. It was like this IS Batman.

This is perilous news. I thought he was excellent in The Town... but he simply doesn't fit into the superhero roles. It's analogous to Michael Cera playing James Bond.

It may well be the case that after a few minutes of screentime the viewer will get used to it... but this is just a bizarre choice all around.

I liked Bale's Bruce Wayne, but I'm one of those guys who thought his Batman voice was way over the top.

Affleck is a better writer and director than actor. Plus he already played Daredevil. This is a pretty poor casting choice, in my opinion. I read they were considering Josh Brolin, and I think he would have been the better pick. He's got the right look and could almost certainly pull off the "aging badass" vibe better than Affleck.

This is a hilariously bad casting choice. Daredevil was painful to watch and I thought The Town was pretty bad. Not to say he hasn't been involved with plenty of good projects, I just don't see him as a leading actor capable of carrying a movie like this.

I thought the guy who played Superman did a decent job but I hope these guys aren't expecting the actors they're getting to compete with the star studded Avengers cast in the box office.

It could be worse. They could have picked Ryan Reynolds.

Argo was a damn good movie that he starred in and directed so there is hope for him
I'm more concerned about Zach Synder directing the movie...Anyone remember sucker punch?
That was utter shit.

Wouldn't have been my choice, but let's give him a chance. I think the story will be a bigger problem, how are they going to reconcile this with the end of Dark Knight Returns?

And also, how the fuck do you make a story involving one completely mortal man without any superpowers and an immortal god fueled by deus-ex-machina work?

You give batman krytonite. Lex Luthor was a thorn in Superman's side and his greatest asset was his mind(and his money) and had no superpowers at all.

But the bigger problem, as I see it anyways, we haven't had a great superman movie in a very long time.

Brolin would have been great.

I heard they are rebooting batman.

Anyone know if that's right?

I liked the town, but Bale is untouchable as an actor. Trying to fill his shoes is stupid IMO.

There really is no need for another Batman movie. Nolan's trilogy was superb.

I think Neil Skywalker should be Batman--he conquered Hollywood in a month, might as well make him Batman also.

I think I read they offered Bale $50 million to be in this movie. I guess he turned it down.

Affleck should play Batman with a Boston accent--Comic Con geeks would lose their shit.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Although Dark Knight Rises sucked. It started off good, but ended horrible with the twist. Can't have a truely smart Bane can we Hollywood? It would go against the trope that muscular dudes can be smart. Also I think he should have been roided up somehow.

I dont think this will be as bad as people assume. This is essentially a superman sequel not a NEW batman movie, batman just plays an important role in it. Ben affleck is a strange choice but as long as his role is limited i dont think it will ruin the movie.

When Michael Keaton was cast as Batman in the Tim Burton Batman films, I didn't see it. But he ended up being the best of the lot (at least until Christopher Nolan totally rebooted, made them more serious films, and got a serious actor to match). When I heard Matt Damon was being cast as Jason Bourne, I didn't see it. But now, no one else can really fuck with that role. I think in Ben's first go round as an actor, they tried to make him a movie star, instead of a real actor. Since then, when he's stuck to more supporting roles instead of the starring roles, he's done much better. I think he's greatly improved as an actor, though his best talent is as a writer, and now a director too. I'd like to see him get another shot. Hell...George Clooney will tell you early in his career, he did some pretty embarrassing work, but he studied his craft and got better.

I hope you're right. I'm still a bit concerned with the fact it isn't a Man of Steel 2, but more a separate film altogether it seems. I'm also intrigued as to how they're going to make it plausible that Batman is an equal to Superman, given the gulf in abilities!

In his defence. I can see this guy being Bruce Wayne. As long as he's not trying to be Bruce Wayne.
